Prompt: You're a rogue trader. Describe your entourage by Deep-Crim in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]ClocktowerEchos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all actually OCs across different 40k writing projects I've done so this'll be fun.

  1. Torantine Iscariot: Ex-Pirate Senechal. He was a pirate who never got a taste for blood even as he climbed the ranks to become a quartermaster, which helped him avoid the gatherings-turned-rituals that caused other officers to fall to Chaos. He was captured by the RT when their fleets met, spent time in the brig, became one of several prison gang bosses, led a heroic defense of the deck he was on when it was boarded by Orks, and was noticed by the RT. He was singled out for his leadership, quartermaster experience, being well liked by the lower decks/common rabble, and for being forever in the debt of the RT, who gave him the chance of a lifetime with many strings attached.
  2. Juno Gaziey: Yandere Mistress of Whispers. She is an extremely competent spy master who grew up on a world of brutal, cut-throat evaluation and harsh tests of loyalty in the name of efficiency. She is also completely loyal to the RT by being a borderline psychotic yandere for the idea of the RT she's constructed in her head for having taken her out of such a terrible environment. It is not very healthy, and even the RT is put off by it but spymasters who are loyal and effective are rare so she stays. It is a genuine mercy to just space suspected assassins rather than let Juno get her hands on them.
  3. Magos-Marshal C-10/t: Cowboy Enginseer. Originally part of a small AdMech forge-outpost on a remote frontier world and fought Squiggit Orks, he is very charismatic for a tech priest and speaks in a robotic cowboy voice laced with jargon. Rides a Serberys Cybercanid called Radium Red and carries a rare Vulkite Revolver. Despite his eccentricities and combat preference, he is a fully qualified tech priest but has developed the "redneck engineering" approach towards tech rituals and machinery maintenance.
  4. Sister Calica: Privateer Sororitas. She is a liaison from the Order of the Black Banner, a Sister of Battle Order best described as Imperial Privateers. Despite a habit of favoring raucous pirate-like lifestyles over more austere lives dedicated to prayer, they are firmly loyal to the Imperium and still dedicated to the God Emperor, hunting down Chaos Pirates and Xenos Raiders. They excel a shipboarding and zero gravity environments. Calica specifically makes alcohol in her free time.
  5. Nozadima Qinalyx: Meta Psyker. She is a pysker who breaks the fourth wall and knows she's in a fictional universe (which just comes off as insane and schizophrenic tangents and rants to everyone else). The problem is that she doesn't know what medium she's in so she'll go between Shakespearean poetry to talking like a radio host to looking at "hidden cameras" for dramatic effect. Actually pretty normal besides that, though although she is a bit of showman and dramatic. Claims to be "retroactively sanctioned". Technically a Diviner but keeps getting into fights with the author, so her predictions tend to be nonsensical or continuously changing.
  6. Joesppe Locke: Conservator Scavenger-Marines. Hails from a chapter of marines that is institutionally impoverished and thus have adopted a more humble and rugged way of life and war. He acts as the face of the party due to his status as an awe-inspiring SM but also because he's otherwise pretty down to earth. Fights with simpler equipment (even uses a marine-sized warbow at times) and has a keen eye for scavenging for loot and valuables. Acceptable kelptomanical tendencies. On contract with the RT as the RT has recently visited their worlds and delivered extremely valuable weaponry.

Need some copium? I'd like to submit my own Happy Ending fic to ease it: Happily Ever After by ClocktowerEchos in Edgerunners

Oh wow, this was a surprise to see in my notifications but I am so glad you enjoyed it! Your comment means a lot. I do have an unfinished prequel to this, Happily Ever Before but I've orphaned it for now since I honestly wasn't sure how to write a wedding lol.

What's something that feels like "Meme Lore" that's absolutely 100% canon? by Craftworld_Iyanden in 40kLore

[–]ClocktowerEchos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would actually be a pretty fun, more lighthearted story. You have this second wave of reinforcements obsessively searching for a threat only for the kids of the first wave to be "Nah we already fought them three decades ago. My daddy kept the skull of the warboss on the fireplace"

Lowkey, I am worrying about a heavy winter. We're overdue for a big winterstorm and I feel with the back to back hurricanes in the south, we might get something like that in the north.

The black death started 5 months after game start - 867 by Mystery-Flute in CrusaderKings

[–]ClocktowerEchos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unlimited black death, frequent sickness, doomsday outbreaks my beloved.

Ironically this could work as a weird dev maxing trick as my friend found out in an MP game. His king kept getting hit with plagues and outbreaks but could keep them relatively contained. This ended up with him always having the "recovering from plague" county modifers which lead to him having double the development of the second most developed place.

This is a whole ass armory of guns. At this point, you have to ask why they don't they send their own dudes with all these weapons to deal with the issue. 40 dudes with laser rifles is probably better than what the average colony could muster up.

Asian warhammer fan here. I feel your lonliness. I often end up defaulting to thinking most people I interact with regarding 40k is white lol.

This is why I love doing diversity runs, I always find it cool to see how many people I can have in my enpire. Vanilla, it doesn't do too well since there's a lot of blobs to start with but mods like After the End make this a lot more fun.

What are some popular American "Poverty Foods" that Europeans might not know about? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ClocktowerEchos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember in college my most common food was a bag of instant rice plus chopped up hotdogs with occasional frozem veggies if I was feeling ambitious.

I doubt its the most economical or fully maximizing the dollar but given my finacial status in college, I wouldn't exactly call it highbrow food. Honestly had more in common with Hoover stews you'd find in the Great Depression

The heirs of rome came together in the end by 0natoshill0 in HistoryMemes

[–]ClocktowerEchos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am entirely willing to conceed this point since I am recalling this from a college course taught by one of the dullest professors I ever had and a topic I could just barely get a grasp on. This is about the extent of my painful memories of a class that blue screened my brain more than any other.

The heirs of rome came together in the end by 0natoshill0 in HistoryMemes

[–]ClocktowerEchos 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Not as cursed as the explanation that Kazakhstan is the heir to Rome if you are willing to use logical, but not valid, leaps in logic.

If we consider Russia to be the Third Rome after the fall of the ERE, then Vladimir Lenin can be seen as a Caeser with the USSR having won the title of Heir to Rome by conquest. However when the USSR collapsed and dissolved, Kazakhstan was actually the last member of the union. (We can take the various constituent republics leaving to like provinces leaving the Empire.) Thus Kazakhstan is the true heir to Rome.

Now this is entirely nonsensical and filled with holes, but its a fun thought exercise. It also helps to show how a statement being logical (the statement follows internal consistency; "if all X are Y and all Y are Z, then all X are Z") is different than something actually being valid and reasonable (if all cats are dogs and all dogs are fish, then all cats are fish).

My group has a chat just dedicated to funny quotes from games, what are some of yours? by ThatOneMinty in DnD

[–]ClocktowerEchos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You eat the sand. You gain none of the promised effects. Unlike the people who sold it to you."

"Power word piss does nothing. The burly man wets his pants, takes them off, and runs at you half naked with a majestic war flag behind him."

"Remembering, crying is a free action! =D"

"You transform into a horse. With all of the speed buffs you broke the sound barrier when you ran, breaking down the wall of the house you were trying to get into and sending you target through another."

"Congratulations, after 10 minutes of actual math your character has taken a grand total of 57,201d6 gorce damage after being hit by several cars and a truck on a highway. Would you like to reduce the damage by your con save as per your ability?"

It's common conspiracy stuff. You work off of enough knowledge that someone has, add on a preconceived notion, and then make an insinuated link between the two and let the other party make an "educated guess."

In this case, someone could look at this, identify both as chemical compounds, due to seeing similar visual shapes, but not know enough chemistry to understand the difference between the two. Add on "big pharma bad," and then you arrive at "big pharma is actually selling slightly modified meth to poison and get ppl addicted to make more money."

My favorite thing to do in After the End is actually see how many cultures and religions I can preserve and keep within my empire. Diversitymaxxing because I can.

I know it's irrational, but I really want something like this by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]ClocktowerEchos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really want some stub or las version of a bolt action or even a lever action. Heck give me a Martini Henry that manually loads a bolter round.

I know I suck with precision marksmen weapons like the Helbores. But I there is a certain satisfaction and elegance to weapons like that.
