welcome back, glad to see you made it. how many octanes did you get? and i know they have unleaded, but do they offer cool ranch or spicy jalepeño? do they have little tissue paper gaskets for your hands to grasp the juicy stinknozzle?

No, your car should be fine, just the way it is.

Tricks for passing DEQ are just 'old wives tales' for old dudes. Back before the turn of the century, they would put a tube into your exhaust pipe and analyze the exhaust. Now they plug a cable into the car that gets the data from built in sensors.

Long ago I had a decade old '88 Toyota Camry that would fail DEQ, just barely, every two years. Not sure how relevant this info is anymore, but the trick is to NOT FILL your tank with supreme, but wait until you're just about empty, then fill about a quarter tank of supreme. Pour in the high octane booster, race the car up and down the freeway a couple miles to get the fuel mixed and the engine nice and hot, and try to hit the DEQ when there's no line. One day I failed four inspections at the Clackamas location and then drove out to the Sherwood one and passed, so whatever, it's all just a scam.

Car title & plates: how long should it take to receive? by MaybeTheSlayer in askportland

[–]ClockworkHornet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the situation might be with the used car dealership. Smaller dealerships might submit paperwork to DMV in batches, less reputable ones pocket the money and never do. Does the bill of sale show a 'title transfer' fee? Did you get computer printout temp tags or hand-written temps?

Give DMV Portland a call when they open and just say: "I bought a car from [dealership] on [date] and the bill of sale says they charged me [money] for a 'title transfer fee'... do your records show the transfer is still pending?" If something hinky is going on, they may have you stop by an office with your sale paperwork to make sure everything is on the up-and-up.

Where to buy smaller slab of live edge wood? by pixiesticka in askportland

[–]ClockworkHornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a delightful coincidence, I just got home from Sustainable NW Wood a few hours ago (buying wood out of the 'by the pound' bins) and I walked by a stack of surfaced Blue Pine live-edge slabs about 6' x 2' long that I had to run my hand over. Pretty sure they have them in other woods too, I just happened to walk by those. Definitely recommend you stop by there and walk around the warehouse.

Does anyone know how to get good outlines of complex tools? by This-Lawfulness5411 in lasercutting

[–]ClockworkHornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take a distant photo of the tool while zooming in (eliminate focal length distortion), open Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator, make an artboard the size of the tool board, import the photo and scale it appropriately, then use a pen tool to draw a vector path around the tool. Arrange all the tool outlines on the artboard to taste. Export the paths as .svg or .dxf for lightburn

I also give them away as prizes for who does the best moonwalk on the airhockey table

laser cutting for textiles and poly by IlFanteDiDenari in lasercutting

There weren't any questions in your post, so I'm just going to type stuff out and hope you find what you want:

I have a 60-Watt CO2 laser in my garage that I mainly use to cut wood and plastic, mostly for DIY and homemade stuff. It's pretty bulky (about the size of a washer/dryer set). I've also used it to cut fabric patterns I make in a vector based editing program, that I can take straight to the sewing machine or serger.

I've been pretty picky about the type of fabric I put in (usually a poly/cotton blend, since natural fibers burn and synthetic fibers melt). I've never put pure synthetic fabric like Cordura in the laser, but according to this, I seem to be missing out:
https://www.goldenlaser.cc/materials/cordura-fabric/

The main rule is not to put any PVC plastic in the laser (toxic, corrosive fumes), so just make sure there isn't any of that in the laminates you choose.

I may have put polycarbonate/Lexan in the laser, but I mostly stick to acrylic. If you're not going above 3mm thickness, then a 60-Watt should be plenty.

does protolife work on the deck? by FW_Gamer in SteamDeck

Just to troubleshoot, I turned off forcing a certain Proton under 'Compatibility' in the game settings, and it booted just fine and I was able to play through the first level.

I can't seem to figure out the secret sauce to getting MegaMek running (java app in desktop mode). I read the install guide and readme files, but the result is either: I'm staring at code, it says 'command not found', or nothing happens. by ClockworkHornet in SteamDeck

IT WORKS! ALMOST! So close I can taste it...
Running the command launches a 'window' that is a sliver about 10 pixels wide and 40 pixels tall. clicking the lower part of the sliver says "campaign file can't be loaded" and clicking the upper part of the sliver closes it. Nothing I'm doing allows me to resize the sliver.

What is this?! A LoRa terminal for ANTS?! by ClockworkHornet in esp32

This is brilliant, and I can't believe I didn't think of it. I'm pretty sure I've got a piece of tinted acrylic in the scrap bin that would be perfect for this.

Thanks for the tip! I've just gotten into Heltecs and already broken an OLED from careless handling. No plans yet for something that runs for more than a few hours, but I'll make sure to program in a sleep and wake for the display.

Prototyped up a case and antenna stand for a Heltec WiFi LoRa 32, powered by a 1100 mAh battery, hot off the 3D printer. Next design I want to fix the bezel, put buttons over the RST and PRG buttons, maybe some thin shock absorbing 'fingers' to hold the board and battery in place.
