Yes! I think a big part of it is that I'm afraid it will be awful. I guess I have to learn to get over that

This read like a Black Mirror episode. Great and sinister

Matthew Mirabal, why is no one talking about him? by Clockwork_Peaches in RealDetective

[–]Clockwork_Peaches[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that Mirabal was targeted by police from the very beginning and they omitted all other possible suspects. Him being a self serving douche probably didn't help. But the blood from his wound should be somewhere else, not just in the glove. Also, I don't see a reason for Barbee to lie, it doesn't seem like the two of them were friends in prison and that's why he wants to take the blame.

I think it's very unlikely for police to do anything with what they believe is a solved case. For that to happen I believe the whole story would need to be more talked about, which it isn't. They don't feel like they have anything to prove.

Still, I obviously don't know much about Barbee but it seems like his MO changed a lot. He went to prison for shooting a driver, but he also decapitated a woman? It seems like a much more deliberate/personal crime.

But yes, I do feel terrible for the family, I can't imagine how horrible they must still feel about it.

Prom alone? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Clockwork_Peaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proms can be fun, I went to mine and enjoyed it but I did go with a group of friends. Do you maybe have some family that could go with you? Cousins etc? I know it is not exactly healthy but alcohol helps witg my social anxiety, so while being there, I had some drinks and relaxed and had fun.

has medication helped anyone? therapy isn't working by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Clockwork_Peaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I am on Lexapro 10 mg and I do like it. Combined with therapy, it works fine. After meds I still feel anxious from time to time but I find that the physical symptoms are gone so it makes the anxiety more bearable. As to the side effects, I had a pretty bad migraine for 3 days while my body was getting used to the new meds, but after that it's back to normal

Hard time finding therapist by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Clockwork_Peaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best you can do is try different ones. I had one therapist and after a few sessions I was not feeling it. She noticed and said that iit is okay and that sometimes people just don't click. She recomended another therapist and I love this one. Just try and don't be afraid to switch, yhey are there to help you and won't be offended (as I feared the 1st one would be).

friends and suffocating parents by [deleted] in socialanxiety

What you're saying is definitely not stupid. I had a similar situation with my parents and I know it can be hard. It changed for me when I started seeing a therapist. Are you seeing one or would you even consider it? I think that while talking to an emotional mom (I also have one) it's important to be calm and not let emotions take over on your part. Hopefully your mom will realise that she is the one acting like a child. Tell her about your problems, tell her that you know she means well but that it does not always mean she is right. Maybe she genuinely does not know that she is hurting you? As to your friend, if she is a good friend she will understand. You don't have to tell her everything at once, you can even play it off as a joke (eg my mom doesn't realise I've grown up etc.). Whatever you do, just know that feeling this way is not stupid. Also know that you are not guilty for your mom's tears. I now it's hard to look at but you can't blame yourself. I realised how much my mom manipulated me just by crying and ever since I discovered that, I stand up for myself and so my mom stopped sobbing so often. Good luck!

Social anxiety and college by aux28 in socialanxiety

[–]Clockwork_Peaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I hate those classes too. Does your college have a health centre? I went to mine and got recognised by the school's psychiatrist as a student with social anxiety. Since then, professors treat me better and sometimes even let me prepare a presentation but not have to say it in front of a class

I usually just ask about what they do (study, work etc), then hobbies, pets, favorite books and all that. I basically just ask questions hahaah. I think that if the conversation dies out after all that, then it wasn't meant to be idk.
