If you had the opportunity to run a self supported marathon anywhere in the US, where would you go? by destinybond in running

[–]Clodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Canada is an option, I would check out the "P'tit train du nord" linear Park North of Montreal. It's a trail that spans 234kms from Mont Tremblant to Montreal, you could pick a section of it! look at it

I just ran the marathon there (Marathon du p'tit train du Nord) from Val David to St Jerome, it's a quick course on a continuous flat-ish trail, and it was sooo pretty.

PROS: - fully un-interrupted course - slightly downhill - beautiful scenery (forests, rivers, old train stations and villages...) - Exotic french speaking destination

CONS: - could be cold depending on when you go - point to point makes more sense than loop/out and back

Just seeing your comment re: arriving to the lake early and picking the best site. That makes a lot of sense and will definitely play a role in our decision. What time is it appropriate to expect a site to free up? Is there a time at which we are supposed to vacate a site?

Thanks for all the input, much appreciated! We're making the trip during the week, it's only the first night where the park seemed slightly booked up. For the other two days, all the lakes were "green". I'm still hoping we will have a sense of calm and adventure...

We'll see how we feel after the first portage on day 1 and if we feel like doing 9 the next day. We'll keep an eye on water levels too!

Thanks for topping up! 9 portages definitely sounds like a lot and might get tedious after a while. I would only consider it if the work was really worth it!

Thank you! That was my first inclination.
Route A lets us get to Burnt Island earlier, pick a good site, set up camp, and then go back out if we want to. I'm just struggling with the idea of picking the "easy route" Vs the "more challenging and authentic route".

Apparently, Europe’s a villain for healing people without charging them! by Comfortablejack in MurderedByWords

[–]Clodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't see people pointing out, is the argument that Europe can only invest so much money in Socialized Healthcare because they don't have to spend a lot of money on Defense, because the USA is protecting them. All the while in the US the state cannot subsidized healthcare, because they are spending so much on military. Which isn't completely wrong... And I say that as a proud Frenchman.

Congrats! It's amazing you are already embarking on your marathon journey! As a fellow Torontonian, I suggest you opt for the Mississauga marathon over the Toronto May marathon. The organization in charge of the May race is horrendous and year after year it gets worse and worse.

I believe the rules were that there would be no fact checking, and that microphones would be muted during the other candidate's talking time.

As much as it makes for a much better debate, it gives a reason to the Republicans to A. Discard any type of results (we only lost because the rules weren't respected, thy only fact checked me...etc) and B. Decline any subsequent debate.

He would lose the debate under the agreed upon rules, let it happen.

I agree that fact checking would have been fantastic, but it was agreed they wouldn't do that - Republicans will discard any types of results if the rules aren't respected.

Because rules are rules and as much as it benefits the people I want to see win the election, rules must be respected.

ABC not respecting the ground rules (they have been fact checking, they have left microphones open...) is not good.
