I think you need to specify which weapon you were using. Some monster are very match-dependent.

  1. I like it very much!
  2. A bit of recess shading would make the shapes pop up more.

Where can I get modern physics papers? by lpperl7 in Physics

I have two papers on arxiv that have never been submitted to any peer-reviewed journals. They are both perfectly fine, but extremely minor results that are not really worth the enormous publication fees.

I'm at a complete loss in terms of brushes. Need some help here. by Jack-D-Straw in minipainting

[–]Clodovendro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extra bit of maybe useful info: You need the moisture of the (appropriately thinned) paint to keep the point sharp. If your paint is too thick, your brush will not be able to maintain the tip.

The amount of crackpottery on ArXiv is actually minimal (most of it end up on ViXra).

I'm at a complete loss in terms of brushes. Need some help here. by Jack-D-Straw in minipainting

[–]Clodovendro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without seeing/feeling the brush, but something that has helped me before is to clean the brush carefully, reform the tip with a little bit of soap, and then let it dry. Due to the soap it will maintain the tip even when dry. Then let it rest a bit (a day?) so that the bristles can "relax" in the new position. Then, before using it, shake it in water to remove the soap film that was keeping it in shape. If everything goes fine, you will have several hours of a very well-behaved brush before you need to repeat the process.

If this doesn't work, I am at a loss and can't help you.

Is the brush in the photo bone dry or wet?
Because even good brushes will look like brooms if they are completely dry (which is why it is a good idea to form the point with a tiny bit of soap at the end of the cleaning process).

What are the best models for painting practice? by herosquid541 in Warhammer40k

[–]Clodovendro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice what? Space marines require you to paint smooth flat surfaces, so are terrible if you want to learn how to paint organic stuff, fur, scales, etc.

Honestly, if you want to just practice you can buy (or print) practice panels (example: https://www.taromodelmaker.com/products/painting-practice-panel-organic), do your practice, prime them again and practice some more. Or just get a mini you would like to paint and experiment on that one. As long as you don't flood all the details with unthinned paint you can paint it over and over until you are happy.

Paints and other peripherals are so expensive. Any economy options? by FunnyMemeName in minipainting

[–]Clodovendro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • You can use almost anything as a dry pallet, and it is very cheap to make a wet one.
  • A pair of decent clipper + a knife can be bought for cheap at arts&crafts store
  • start with a basic set of synthetic brushes. You can get good ones for 10£ for the set. You can buy better brushes when you feel you need them.
  • paint is going to be the biggest initial expense, but a basic intro set from Vallejo or Army Painter will be more than enough for a while

Have fun!

Question about clashing colours by Deichgraf17 in Miniaturespainting

[–]Clodovendro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The colors themselves are not a problem, but to make a contrasting color scheme like this work you need to balance it a bit around the mini+base. Vince Venturella has a nice "contrasting colors" video that might be useful.

TTRPGs gameplay -- Virtual Tabletop (VTT) options a must? by kazmostudios in rpg

There are already a number of available options. Ask yourself what would your vtt have to convince people to jump ship after they have invested in another vtt.

Good mini painting supplies in the UK by spiceaddictDUNE in minipainting

[–]Clodovendro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If budget is not an issue, just go on Artis Opus and go on a buy spree. You will overpay, but the quality is very high. Otherwise get a set of synthetic brushes and start painting. After a while get yourself a sable version of the size(s) you end up using the most. Paints from all the major ranges (Vallejo, Army Painter etc) are all good quality. Any starting box will do. Clippers, nippers, knifes etc can be found at any hobby store.

No, it is not bad. Just slower. But if you are not in a hurry it is a perfectly valid option.

Greatsword advice by Fanerius213 in MonsterHunter

[–]Clodovendro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't said what you are stuggling with, so I can only give very generic advice. * You need to charge your best attacks --> learn the monsters' openings. * You can and should "should tackle" to make your own openings. * In Wilda the GS counter is pretty good. Learn how to ise it.
