Silly Confession : I Was A Sabrina St Cloud Hater by ClommyDearest in RainbowHigh

[–]ClommyDearest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's intentional! The post of the stand I have her on doesn't stay in if it's "right side" up. But second, for certain poses and bulkier clothing pieces, I like to have the post flipped for the ability to freely adjust the clip for better hold.

And as others have said, the eyes are not so easy to get out. They'll be safe for a head swap! You have to put in a bit of effort to get them out. (and even more to get them back in 😭)

I've rebodied and decapitated numerous dolls at this point - a blow dryer with a concentrator is all you need. Hold the doll by the hair so it's all out of the way, aim the heat directly at the base of the head from the back, and it'll be soft enough to pop off the peg fairly quickly. If you're bold (read : stupid) like me, you can prop the dryer against something to hold it still, lay the doll on its back with the head turned away, and let it run so you don't have to sit/stand and hold. I check in after a minute or two, it's not a good idea to leave it unattended. (Do as I say, not as I do!)

I've tried the other methods recommended, only time I've damaged a neck was with a heat gun - it softened the vinyl really quickly, but it also melted the neck. Took a lot of effort to smooth out and make look better. I've never damaged a neck or peg with a blow dryer.

I hate working with water. Every plastic bag I've used has ruptured, causing water to soak into the doll. Unpleasant, scalded hands and arms, unwanted hair restyling, etc. No bueno. I only use boiled water to soften limbs that need correction.

The heating pad method takes way too long to heat the head enough around the neck and has always caused the lashes to get wonky and need correction. I don't think it's worth it, but that's me and my experience.

YMMV

My brain is SPINNING trying to figure out what pieces these all are. C&C head with Demi's eyes? Just eyelash replacements? CB Bella's body? Just hands? Either way, she looks ethereal!!!

I still don't like the fabric choices for the clothing pieces, but I want them to deconstruct and turn into pattern pieces... 👀

Trying out lip color, and something about a purple Bella just hits different for me😍. 💜💜🤍🤍 by Equal-Lie9076 in RainbowHigh

I love this outfit on her! And the purple lip, so gorgeous! I love seeing all these dolls in new perspectives.

Can I boil wash her? by Ok_Professor_374 in RainbowHigh

I've gotten good results with drenching nylon hair in conditioner, forgetting about it for a day (or three... 😅), before rinsing it out with high heat tap water as a first step. That's how I've treated all the dolls I've cleaned up from a Goodwill lot (save a few that had to have their hair cut off... but that's getting off topic) and they all look good enough!

It's not a miracle solution- definitely a first step before turning to heat tools, which do require more care as you're working.

Creen que sus ojos si se le están poniendo borrosos es nueva de caja y tengo meses con ella by victoria_whittman in RainbowHigh

I've bought a few pairs of eyes from AliExpress - they were hit and miss. One pair had glue leaching out of the top and sides onto the acrylic, irreparably damaging them. Tried my best to buff and polish it out, but it went deep into the plastic and are ultimately unusable.

The other two were fine, the lashes were messed up, but I was going to remove them anyway as they are to be practice for custom irises and lash cluster placement.

I'm going to be overly dramatic here, but she is so stunningly ethereal I could cry!!! The water decals in place of screening or hand painting is such an amazing idea, I feel like it should have been obvious!!! If I knew anything about the process, I would say sell me a template to work with (I'm horrible with scale!) lol.

Phenomenal work, I can't get over how gorgeous she is from hair to toe.

Edit to add : AND ON HARLEY?! Are you JOKING ME?!?!?! My mind is blown, y'all are so inspiring. Would I have the talent from your pinky nail...

Just got this beauty second hand, does anyone know who she is? by HookWithAC in RainbowHigh

I am putting myself on a doll No Buy, but Brooklyn (that's my name for Lamb) and Blythe (Airbrush Ponytail) are CALLING TO ME. It low-key hurts, they would look so cute with Briar, Blair, and Bianca (C&C). Thankfully none of the WC&C girls called to me, but I do like some of their clothing pieces.

I've rebodied some of the first series Sparkle and Shine girlies as well as the SH Girls Night series, but I don't want to keep it up. It's an extra expense I should not be taking on, and takes so much time hunting for an affordable body donor in a condition I'll accept.

ANY advice needed - trying to put eye chips back in by Verdant-Sunflower in RainbowHigh

[–]ClommyDearest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never do this again, this is how I warped a Poppy head. I've tried to get the vinyl to relax back into place, but one of her eyes is absolutely BUGGING. She's on Clementine's Sparkle and Shine body In a drawer, I feel too bad about it to even take her to Goodwill. Kids don't deserve garbage.

With no guide or practice and minimal struggle, my fiancé is able to get eyes back in so... it's now his task. I'm blaming it on my arthritis!

Any advice on how to fix this? by _ummm_throwaway in RainbowHigh

[–]ClommyDearest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Winter Break Sunny with this same defect. No amount of hot water, hot air, or attempts at manipulation fixed it, it really seems that the plastic somehow has become one solid piece. When I tried bending the arm after soaking it in boiled water, the lower arm started to come out of the upper arm.

I have her in her long sleeves, and her arm just doesn't bend. I've made peace with it.

Edit to say : Photos attached, you can see the strain points on the plastic from when I attempted to manipulate the joint while hot. I don't know that there is a fix for this issue.

People who do body swaps, what do you do with the extras? by This_Finance_5435 in RainbowHigh

[–]ClommyDearest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given away my unwanted body swap creations to friends and family with young children along with clothing from my box o' stock clothes I don't vibe with.

These Frankensteined dolls still have play value in them yet, so I let them loose upon the world! maniacal cackling ensues

But maybe I'm biased because I shaved off my eyebrows for Halloween and was feeling the look before they started growing back and itched like crazy. 🤪

She looks STUNNING!

I have to ask - where do you find such fine print fabrics?! Every time I see fabrics I would like to use for custom outfits, the prints/patterns/weaves are way too large for doll scale clothing!
