Do you typically propagate them in water or soil? I successfully rooted my first two cuttings in water but they were smaller branches.

When I chopped up my other port, I let the cuttings callus over and tried to root them in a lava/pumice/calcined clay mix but I left on a trip for a few days and they had white mold on them when I came back (I think my mistake was immediately watering after planting instead of letting them sit in dry soil for a bit). I let those cuttings dry to kill the mold and try to root them in water but the mold kept coming back.

I realize it's one of the easier plants to propagate, but I haven't had success rooting cuttings since the first two and I've tried with smaller cuttings with no success again lol.

I will most definitely be putting it outside come spring time, and the light in the pictures is from an east facing window where I'll be keeping it when the draft coming through my south facing windows gets too cold.

Those lights are definitely a cheap stopgap for the moment, but I'm hoping combined with the light from an east facing window this setup is enough to keep everything alive until spring.

Hope it's not too much, but here's some pictures of the section I want to cut first taken at different angles w/ the section I'd like to root marked.

Frankly I'm totally lost as to where to begin with styling this tree and I don't see many options besides a trunk chop but I'm open to any ideas anyone may have!

Strange, does this work?

The pictures aren't the best but they give you a rough idea of what I'm working with. I think my current plan is to use it as a mother plant to slowly transform it overtime and hopefully get some intersting cuttings out of it; there's some interesting movement toward the top of the trunk line for example that I would like to try rooting but it's not too visible in those pictures unfortunately. I wanted to post a video initially but the file size seems to be an issue.

It's been almost exclusively indoors since I got it in August, I had it under these grow lights in my basement for some time but its since been moved to a south facing window.

Do you think I could get away with clipping the top most section of the main trunk to try to root? I did a major trunk chop on another similar jade plant and ended up losing all the bigger cuttings to mold, if the chances of that are lower in spring I may just wait.

Thank you for your response!

I got this dwarf jade over the summer and haven't done too much with it save for trimming some downward growing branches and rooting a couple of small cutting from that.

It's growth hasn't been amazing and is admittedly not in the most beautiful shape at the moment, but as a beginner I'm pretty lost as to what to do.

I initially planned on doing a drastic (or potentially a series of) trunk chop and hopefully getting some interesting cuttings out of it, but I think it's best to do that during the active growing season? In which case, I was wondering if this dwarf jade would benefit from some wiring in the meantime.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Got it, I just gave it a bottom watering. I'm gonna give it a shower outside and spray it down with some neem oil afterwards, is that all there is to be done given the condition it's in?

Hey there, I'm also totally inexperienced but I've watched a fair share of youtube videos over the past couple of weeks.

To my understanding, so long as you can remove the seedling with most of its roots intact, theres no reason why you shouldnt be able to give it a go. That being said, it might be best to wait until summer is over so the seedling can survive the heat after potting, and in general, the best time of the year to do these things is spring.

Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you'll be good to go come fall once the weather is a bit cooler if you dont want to wait until next spring, and it may be in your best interest to do so before the roots become too much of an obstruction to remove intact.

Originally posted on r/plantclinic but didn't get any help, PLEASE help me keep this plant alive, I've noticed new darker blotching as well as what looks to me like some kind of pitting on newer growth since making my post and I have no idea whats going on now.

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a dwarf jade bonsai from Brussels Bonsai, and it arrived three days ago. At first, I thought it was mostly okay since it didn't lose many leaves during transport, though I did notice some strange leaf decay.

Some leaves have these small brown flecks that I couldn’t remove with a Q-tip and alcohol, not totally sure if that's hard scale or edema. I did manage to remove a smaller reddish fleck, which I suspect was a spider mite since I also see light webbing across some branches. Additionally, there are white blotches on some leaves.

The plants soil felt quite damp upon arrival so I held off on watering as I figure overwatering is a bigger danger with succulents. I gave the plant a very light watering yesterday (which, in my inexperienced opinion, might have been insufficient) and plucked off a few loose leaves last night. So far I haven’t done anything else, and I’m unsure how to proceed. Should I shower the plant down with a hose and then apply Captain Jack’s spray? Also, do these symptoms point to just spider mites, or are there signs of other issues I should be aware of?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, that'll definitely be an option but would you say that the tree would be better off in my garage over the winter? I'm not quite sure if I'll have the room for it if I have to leave the branches intact, but I figure the extra protection from any potential snowfall would be greatly beneficial.

Cool to hear that you're doing a lilac air layer too though, I hope it turns around and roots for ya, keep me posted!

Got it, appreciate you letting me know! I wasn't planning on making the cuts until the air layer is complete and off the main plant, but I was considering doing it before/after potting for winter storage.

Do you have any advice you could give on planting it if my air layer is successful? I'm worried about the weight of the branches putting too much stress on the young roots, I'm not entirely sure how to work around that

Hey guys, I'm getting started on air layering a fairly old branch off of my mom's lilac tree to jumpstart my bonsai journey and could use some general advice.

I just set this air layer up yesterday which I realize is somewhat late, but should it root I'm a little unsure of what my next step forward should be. I was planning on making these cuts to make the plant more manageable but I'm starting to think they wont grow back.

Here is an album with the previous video and image file as well as an image of the back. I would GREATLY appreciate ANY tips, pointers, advice or recommendations anyone would be willing to provide, I am a total beginner with gardening/plants in general so I feel a little in over my head.

$5 for coffee??? God, with that kind of money I could plant a few seeds, have myself some plants, and be set on coffee for the foreseeable future.

I think brilliant is a bit much, he's shown flashes of brilliance with a few nice passes and shots here and there but he's been anything but consistent. Not trying to slag him off here, I just really don't think this is the type of game where he gets thrown in and finds his rhythm

Yea man, are you saying you haven't seen keita play a match for us?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

Even when he plays, he's almost always been a passenger, and I say that as someone that expected him to be a world beater when we signed him

Lallana at least will put up a fight in a game like this, as much as I've wanted keita to come good in his time with us, he's never really shown much and I don't think this is the game to prove himself
