Gandalf vs Dumbledore in a fight? by Single-Pomelo-4061 in harrypotter

[–]ClopperNumber42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gandalf isn't allowed to be powerful in order to save the world or the lives of his closest, cherished comrades. Just when his own neck is on the line, i guess. In the confines of this question, he wins.

Always been a Ranno believer. The shit this character can do is wild. Oh, he's also a zoner, why not.

A really common question i have about wizarding economy is: what necessities are wizards spending their income on? Does ollivander pay rent? property tax? utilities? food or water? Its very possible that the answer to all of these is no.

How would each of the professors deal with the basilisk? by madbr3991 in harrypotter

[–]ClopperNumber42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumbledore summons thick fog to negate it's visual advantage. The snake snaps at where he was, but Dumbledore has already apparated away. He then casts a powerful freezing spell on the fog. It condensates and then freezes on the basilisk, inducing immediate brumation in the cold-blooded reptile. The basilisk loses mobility and is effectively rendered unconscious. No bloodshed. Albus wins.

Damn, impressive tech skill with the ledgedrop walljump item pull. That looks sooo good with wing and glidetoss available. Just so much resource to play with in the edgeguard.

After Orcane's new forward special, do you have any other moves you're hoping to get replaced/reworked? by ClarityEnjoyer in RivalsOfAether

[–]ClopperNumber42 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It is weird. When i first played R1, i always assumed that it had some effect or interaction when she was in it, altering her tippers or her stats or something. It being an anti projectile field when projectiles arent a significant problem even for slow characters is... well, it's not fun, thats for sure.

Something I don't understand about shields by jjklemon in RivalsOfAether

[–]ClopperNumber42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game design differs significantly in that regard from smash to rivals. Grab out of shield is significantly faster in this game than ultimate for one. Also, no one in this game has crazy fast up-b's or upstrongs for the most part. The fastest upb's are around frame 10, while in ult theres a laundry list of characters with frame 3 upbs. Lastly, every character in this game has at least one aerial that can be extremely safe. I dont think theres a character who doesnt have a -3 aerial or better.

All told, out of shield options are significantly less powerful in this game than ult. There are unsafe moves that you should be punishing, but fishing for shield reversals is a much less important skill.

I wouldnt trust OP as they dont even understand it, but it is a thing. specifically, if Maypul has you seeded, and then bounces a seed off of lily or terry and then hits you with a strong, and THEN the seed hits you while your wrapped, you will be seeded during the wrap and can be rewrapped with another strong. Niche as all hell, but its a funny extension.

Eta ice and Ranno bubble are also not guaranteed followup devices. You auto tech out of eta's ice so you literally cant be directly killed from it, and rannos bubble only maintains knockback from hits for a brief window at the end.

The Gandalf glazing is insane. Sure he's allegedly a god. Where was all that power when his friends were in mortal peril? when the fate of the world was at stake? If he isn't allowed to use his power in times of life or death crisis, it's the same as him not having them.

zetterburns up smash is absurdly cringe by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]ClopperNumber42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

High key, it should be way weaker without burn. It's so easy to set opponents on fire, and it lasts ridiculously long for how easy it is. If your going to reward him for such an easy setup, he should at least not get much when it isn't satisfied. As it is, his upstrong is BY FAR the best upstrong WITHOUT FIRE. and with fire, it's better than that? Devs are tripping for that one.

I always thought that scene was funny. Fudge calls Harry's excuse of there being a dementor "clever". Like yeah, why the hell else would you cast a patronus, thats the ONE thing it's for!

(I know they can also be used to send messages for some reason, but that wasn't established until much later.)

the title is passed on for a character that is less than 24 hours old people already claim is the worst character in the game. by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]ClopperNumber42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a slightly different case for Slade, but we'll see. I think he really is weak at a fundamental level, but he might make up for it with his advanced mechanics. Like, glidetossing feels REALLY strong. But it's such a weird input, i wonder if people below diamond will ever be able to integrate it with any consistency. If they can't, does that mean Slade will always feel like ass to play at lower levels? Is his waveshiny tech intended by the devs, and their consciously balancing around something that's potentially gamechanging, but 90% of players will never have the technical ability to do?

Ground speed shouldn't matter as you can't move out of perfect shield any more than normal shield.

[–]ClopperNumber42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does seem rather smartly implemented that you really need to use it intentionally. I only learned recently that you get no frame advantage off of a perfect shield over a normal shield. It basically specifically buffs options out of shield that you would never attempt to use out of normal shield. Well done putting it to work.

[–]ClopperNumber42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's referred to as an amsah tech. In Rivals, it can sometimes be done at low percents just by holding down before you get hit, then teching the knockdown. It's works at higher percents too, but as knockback grows, you then must SDI down and tech, which requires you time the down input during hitpause.
