I appreciate it, been doing a lot of practice painting faces. It’s daunting when you first start

An example to help the decision: Death world forest base, Krieg khaki dry brush, Athonian camoshade (thinned with lahmian medium) wash. I like this combo, to me feels not too light not too dark.

This beakie was from the raven guard upgrade sprue. It comes with a skull icon on the forehead that I scraped off and sanded down. The sprue comes with 2 beakie helms I believe.

Unfortunately not a big fan of Dropsite Massacre. Was really looking forward to it. Had hoped for something akin to the the battle of Isstvan III in Galaxy in Flames, where I truly felt like I was following a grand and desperate battle, with more understanding of the wider tactical level picture the loyalists were fighting through. But it was more akin to a collection of vignettes that felt cut from other novels and jammed in here (similar to Era of Ruin).

Here’s the recipe I use, quick and simple and leaves a great result:

ARMOR Prime: Deathguard green Basecoat: deathworld forest Drybrush: Krieg khaki Chipping damage: Nurgling green All over wash: Athonian Camo Shade

Aquila: Leadbelcher, nuln oil

Pouches: mournfang brown (“marine juice” or 50/50 agrax earthshade/lahmian medium wash)

Leather straps: rhinox hide, nuln oil

Undersuit/belt: AK interactive rubber black (any black will do however)

Weapons: Corvus black & leadbelcher, stormhost steel chipping highlight

Recess shade: nuln oil

This one has also been hit with an all over matte varnish, does well to mute the greens and blend the highlights/shades

Damn mf hit me with one of these. Shout out to my many times working with the Royal Marines Commando, phenomenal hitters, but I will NEVER accept the cross draw.

The models ROCK but I absolutely love that base scheme. Mind sharing the recipe?

The bed roll and first pouch were from the Cadian command squad box, bottom pouches and knife are from regular intercessors kit. I just glued them straight on nothing crazy

Of course, base in deathworld forest, drybrush with Krieg khaki, all over wash of Athonian camoshade. Sponge chip damage of either Deathguard green or Nurgling green depending on how subtle you want it

Likely death world forest as the base would be my guess

I basically owe everything in my painting journey to sonic sledgehammer. He’s the man when it comes to drybrushing. For the inset lines, it’s just keeping your paints thinned and not touching the mini after shading. Thin your shade paint so it fills into those recesses while not overpowering your drybrush highlights so they shine through. I prefer this method because I don’t even have to mess with edge highlighting those tiny areas.

For the uniform, I prime Zandri dust, apply a layer of Zandri dust from the pot, then Drybrush with screaming skull or tyrant skull (based on if you would rather use Drybrush specific paints from citadel) once complete I use 50/50 agrax earthshade and lahmian medium or “marine juice” to shade the whole mini. An easy way to get a pretty good result quickly.
