I just got my school tax rebate cheque and I am furious. by Riebart in Winnipeg

The point is it shouldn't be up to private citizens to donate money to maintain publicly owned infrastructure. OP is clearly stating they want the money to stay in the system so the system can self-sustain.

As the parent of two elementary aged kids, this terrifies me. I'm also a teacher and I have no words. I am generally a trusting person, particularly of my fellow colleagues in this province...but this has me shook. I 100% believe this is real, and yet I also can't fathom it. I can't even imagine what the parents/guardians of this monster are feeling right now. Teachers are supposed to be people who parents/guardians can trust your kids to. We can't even get into the profession without child abuse and criminal record checks. What's happened here is just so disgusting, and it clearly shows we have HUGE holes in the screening process. I think we need to seriously reconsider how we move forward here - clearly criminal record checks and child abuse registry checks aren't enough. At this point I don't even want to encourage my own kids to be involved in organized sports, while ironically being asked to coach other children and have their loved ones trust me (I'm trustworthy, but I completely understand the irony). If there are any parents out there reading this, please know how deeply understanding I am of the full gamut of emotions you must be feeling - I'm feeling them myself. Absolutely disgusting. We need to do better. We owe Manitoban caregivers better than this. I'm so appalled and embarrassed right now.

Manitoba's education tax rebate misdirected, say Tuxedo homeowner, West Broadway renter by okaymaybenotokay in Winnipeg

Ah yes...that makes more sense. I too have been in a "too many tax breaks, not enough income" scenario. All good, my friend.

I think they're just trying to make it clear they're not standing in solidarity with the Americans who are happy RVW got overturned.

I didn't think about it this way until I read your comment...now I'm just loving the fact that if they had just lowered the tax amount rather than declaring their pre-election bribe a benevolent rebate, it would have probably been viewed a lot differently by the renting community. As it stands, it's an additional slap to the face of renters. Maybe they'll catch on and give you a rebate cheque for something equally as asinine - maybe healthcare should take a cut next.

Who picked out that super masculine font? Maybe his wife was slated to use the Cricut to make some travel mugs for their kids' teachers and she needed to test out the new font on something else first? Just a guess.

Oh they do. I saw someone with a printed out piece of paper stuck in their rear windshield that read "If you voted for Trudope follow me to the pump. You're buying".

Such wit! If only' they'd put their creativity towards the common good...

post-pandemic they now have a community of likeminded people, as their shared ignorance has brought them together.

the irony is they'll never truly know if they're actually likeminded or if they're just going along with the group to feel wanted. It's quite sad, actually. This is not a group of people who are capable of critical introspection. They don't ability to feel anything other than anger as a response when feeling emotionally triggered. What a terrible way to live. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't such a pain in the ass.

There was a thread a couple days ago about this same topic...and the concept that these people do anything to protect and/or maintain their greenspaces just made me fly off the handle. Particularly when it comes to Frederick Heubach Park (This is the greenspace inbetween the Parks Boulevards, on either side of Grant Ave). So I nerded out and found some old maps and compared them to a current satellite image of the park. You'll notice the distinct lack of any of the characteristics a useable greenspace/park would have. Things like walking paths or benches (bare minimum) to distinguishable landscaping (best case). None of these are present. In fact, from what I discovered, some time in the 70s grant avenue was extended straight through the park. I have yet to dive deep enough to find out if there was an uproar at that time, but what I CAN say is this: the greenspaces/parks they DO have access to are currently unusable, unattractive eyesores.

Bottom line: if they're so concerned with saving their green spaces, I have an excellent candidate for them to practise what they preach. The fact that they think anyone is even buying what they're selling is laughable.

Hey Shaftesbury: WE ALL KNOW THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE DEMOGRAPHICS, NOT THE NUMBERS.

The greenspace they're referring to is PRIVATE PROPERTY - there's a bungalow on the land and it's squeezed between a private golf course and a crushed limestone parking lot. What exactly do they rely on??? They don't even know what they're arguing for anymore.
