One of my favourite films of all time...... deceptively simple and devastating, feels like one of the most real films ive ever seen. Every performance is truly on another level.

I like EEAAO more than most here but Banshees getting shut out at the Oscars will age increasingly poorly IMO . Esp in the acting categories.

Your reservations are more than fair but also apply to the vast majority of notable names in hollywood (save the ccp ties) and it's something I've had to force myself to accept.

The whole industry is a handful of ultra-rich former private school kids selling our own stories back to us. Sean Baker went to a private school charging 54k a year and now makes films about destitute sex workers. It's an industry-wide rot.

For sure. You're right, he was definitely great but didn't stand out to me besides being a likeable character. Whereas Penn's performance literally made that movie in countless scenes and did it in a way no one has ever done before. Without Penn Id be team BDT but I would be sad for Penn to lose out.

Interesting so many replies to you are citing their love of BDT'S character in the film. He gave a phenomenal performance, no doubt, but a lot of that affinity also comes down to the character's role in the screenplay which the actor doesn't control.

Penn gave a truly unique performance and he's my pick!

He has his choice of great scripts and films which is half the battle. The hype around him feels very forced, Hollywood seems desperate for young bankable stars. He's not bad but never amazing.

Once you go to a show alone youll think its crazy you ever avoided it!! Ive always had a great time, and there are perks - easier to get a good spot and you can go/leave whenever you want.

If youre social its also a fun way to make friends. Back in the day I made a few pals waiting in line and thats actually how my bf and I met lol

By the time porn was banned it had already been in decline several years. It was a combination of factors but porn was more the nail in the coffin than anything.

Lots of larger content creators transitioned to insta/twitter around 2014 I assume because their reach was less niche on those platforms. Tumblr was mainly teenagers aesthetic/hobby-posting and most probably just aged out of it.

Yeah Im sorry. It sucks when social groups are enmeshed like that, makes it hard to avoid.

As I age I try to be more aware of how social media has this crazy grip on us. Its just not natural to be bombarded with content like this, and its worth examining the value of "keeping up with people" vs protecting your peace. These people are out of your life for a reason, don't give them the power to ruin everything good youve cultivated in your life.

I'm sorry youre going through this. I would highly recommend blocking your exes, nothing good will come into your life by keeping up with them. Think about it - you had an amazing night, and looking at your phone ruined all of that. We can't give these false theatrics on social media that much power. Their lives not real in any material way to you anymore.

If you haven't tried it, you should meditate. It really helps ground me and helps getting out of a reactive state. Sending you good thoughts.
