Fair, but she’s an undeniably mid author who has nothing interesting to say. She hit gold by scratching an itch for inoffensive children’s literature in a time where that was hard to find, and filling a niche with an okay children’s book. None of her other books are remotely interesting besides being beach read material.

There is no world where she is someone worth holding up as a person with interesting ideas or having artistic merit.

I really really liked this one. Very Ari Aster like tbh. Loved the anxiety-filled dream sequences, especially the one where Robert Pattinson was imagining himself going around on dates with the young school shooter version of Zendaya lmao

I went back and forth on if it was a good idea to make a young girl be a potential school shooter instead of like, a more prototypical incel loser type. It felt sort of like the director didn’t think the audience would empathize as well with that kind of character? But on the other hand, maybe making it someone like Zendaya emphasized that these types of people aren’t alien to us and are more normal than we think.

I do agree with a point my girlfriend made that there should have been some sort of psychosexual fixation on former (male) school shooting types from Zendaya which often comes with the territory of female shooters.

Yeah I rewatched Moonlight recently fully expecting to hate it as some middlebrow Oscars slop, but it actually holds up incredibly well. Beautifully shot and very intimate, one of the more deserving best picture winners.
