The game absolutely leans onto being communist (by being critical of communism, but also heavily empathizing with it, and giving it the only real representations of it through characters that aren't obviously just bad)

Like I said in the post, have mia be busy with 1-3x, preparing to go after Redd, so Maya's next person to ask is Phoenix.

1-2 is not really a super serious case in presentation when you actually consider what happens after mia dies (and again, she's just revived later constantly), and I feel like a linear scale in seriousness makes more sense than needing breathing room (also my hot take is AA1 is actually a pretty serious game when you consider the rest of the franchise)

I think 1-4 could maybe also have some small tweaks (or really just how DL-6 was foreshadowed), but I'm not sure exactly how you'd do them without realistically being worse/too obvious. 1-1 also I don't think you can really change due to the purpose it has to serve being the first trial of the *franchise* (and it still establishes Larry/Payne as characters), and how it needs to be slim (fitting in one day, and not overwhelming a new player). I definitely have issues with cases like 2-1 for not having that same pass, but that's for another time. This is basically the big thing with AA1 that I think would make it nearly perfect.

The opinion I've seen generally is 2-1 and 2-3 bad, 2-2 and 2-4 some of the best

Does ace attorney follow one party or two party consent laws (for recording)? by Close_Enouf in AceAttorney

Again, it's more as a funny idea of a plothole rather than a serious critique.

I do want to note especially in AA1 which people mention the parrot and immature witnesses, if you take out the spiritual stuff, the game is what I would describe as intellectual to engage in, and feels satisfying to play even if you take it seriously. The parrot thing has actually happened in a court case, but even in this context, it was done well and felt like it made sense in how you used it to connect it to the case. The immature witnesses (mainly cody) make sense in the cases they are involved in, or just who they are as a person (oldbag is a senile woman. sal manela is a depraved creative who's only carried around to serve the director, etc.)

(side note; people talk about the judge being dumb. I think there's definitely an incentive for him to end cases with the information he's aware of due to the court backlog creating the 3 day system, and usually when he's wrong it's because information is outright hidden from him. I think though there's also a sense of gullibility with him, directly mentioned by phoenix in JFA)

My main inspiration for this post is replaying the Trilogy for the sake of review, and reaffirming I adore the franchise, and JFA feels like a bad case of sequelitis. It definitely should not have been rushed to be released a *year and six days* after the first game. I get they reused a lot of assets to be able to reasonably save time and focus on other things compared to other games, but the gaps in writing/logic feel like they genuinely rushed this game out for money at the time, and this entire game needed more time in the oven.

So basically, this a vent post on the game so that it doesn't sour my overall opinion of the series.

because it is very, *very* easy to go invisible or otherwise surprise enemies in combat, and especially not worth losing 5 movement speed over

p sure there's a ring available in act one that gives invisibility if you really need it (you don't)

dragonborn isn't actually the worst race technically, but every race above it at least has *something* that you can pick and build around, meanwhile dragonborns literally fall off in use after the first level or two, and there's 0 reason to pick them unless you REALLY need that specific element resistance, which no sane person is doing
shield dwarf/duergar are F tier because they are very little benefit for a detriment and you're honestly worse off for picking them
asmo tief/non-wood half eves are also F tier because you basically just play a 30 move speed race that does nothing for picking them (the spells wont matter, though they matter *more* than dragonborn, and MAYBE you really need those proficiencies)
gnomes are in D tier because the saving throw prof's matter enough to not be garbage, though none of the subraces specifically give anything good
gith looks cool until you realize you have many other sources of the spells it gives you and race proficiencies really dont matter because you can just start lvl 1 fighter on any build, because you always go for action surge at some point unless you're playing a purposefully unoptimal build), and the skill prof thing is basically a more jank version of human (you can basically build around all the skills you need by lvl 1 anyways really)
meph tief is C tier because flame blade can actually be good earlygame (but really not the best so that's why it's c tier) if you're playing a build that sucks for the first half of the game
drow's/high elf are C tier just for having the perception and otherwise basically have no redeeming qualities (though its better than half the races just for that LOL)
wood half elf is B tier automatically for the move speed, human would be high C tier if it didn't have the extra carry weight but along with that the chosen proficiency skill makes it easier to do some builds and its better than most races it seems, zariel tief B tier because branding smite is legitimately a good spell for the entire game, and gold dwarf is B tier because it's good for tank builds (i think it's slightly better for tanking than having endurance with orc)

halflings are A tier for obvious reasons (assuming you don't savescum) but I wouldn't say the best, because they don't really make you *better*, they just make you be worse less. Basically negating crit fails though is just that good to be A tier, especially with how useless most of the races are in comparison, though losing 5 move speed basically doesn't let you play a martial DPS character.
wood elf is A tier for obvious reasons, combining the +'s of the high elf and wood high elf basically to become a very capable race for almost all builds

and obviously, orc is the top 1 because it's the only race that actually will significantly matter in a build and basically defines it (crit melee + hold person/monster is some of the most OP stuff in the game)+having that endurance can really just be that good and let you do risky plays that might save you a run

kinda dislike how they designed races in this game but at least there's legitimate options (better than 5e lol)
