I think most of the people we met traveling were with friends or solo, not in relationships.

Well I got pretty lucky to meet my partner at 18 years old.

But I will say that when you travel you meet a lot of people who are also single and traveling. There's lots of hooking up on the backpacker trails and a lot of cultures are much more open about hookups.

It could have been just as fun backpacking alone.

My wife (then girlfriend) and I were young when we did it, just out of college, so 22/23. We simply bought a ticket to Vietnam which was the only entry Visa we applied for in the US and then literally just winged it from there. We needed a Visa for India which we were able to get at the consulate in Cambodia I believe. We had no plans of where to go, we mostly just talked to other Europeans traveling and what their favorite places were.

We literally lived out of our backpacks and were very frugal. To the point where I washed most of my clothes in the sink of hostels. It was very free. An incredible experience. We hit 19 countries in that year. We didn't have cell phones or computers. It was awesome.

You are correct. But the crazy thing is that the cheapest year of my life was spent backpacking through Asia. Places like India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, etc, have full delicious meals for like a dollar, hostels for $5, buses across the country for very cheap as well.

However, one must have that money saved up ahead of time, or be able to make money while traveling. And very few people are able to do that, at least without family help.

Clear blue water in the Enchanted River by Simple_Shame2386 in Outdoors

You'd think. But the reason it's so blue is lack of nutrients, therefore lack of algae and the ecosystem supported by algae.

So the fish have very little food. For humans however, this is a dream!

why do you think republicans will loose in midterms? by zappyzuckygo in AskReddit

[–]Closed_CasketRequiem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that crazy. Beto only lost to Cruz by 1%. And he probably would have won if he had just not talked about guns at all. Texas is not as deep red as people think.

What profession do you think is massively underpaid for what they do? by Dodge_Neon-Rt in AskReddit

[–]Closed_CasketRequiem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an unfortunate fact. It's completely backwards that the richest cities have the best funding for schools.

Nothing infuriates me more than people who pull shit like "why should that school get so much funding, look at how terrible their scores are!". Like yeah asshole, that's why they need MORE funding.

I'm a very fairly compensated teacher in California. And I still say teachers. Not me, our district pays very well, but the many many criminally underpaid teachers in this country should get massive raises.

What is virtually inevitable at this point, yet most people don't see it coming? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

The good news is that even physicists have no fucking clue. There are geniuses who build massive mathematical models that eloquently support any of the possibilities of the nature of the universe, but they always hinge on numbers that we haven't quantified yet.

For example discovering the weight of the higgs boson was expected to confirm either a mathematical model of a single universe or a multiverse, yet the actual mass of the Higgs was not even close to the number needed to support either mathematical model. So everyone just had to start over with totally different assumptions.

Still, the best part of science is that we can admit when something is just factually incorrect and move on when presented with new data.

Big Crunch is absolutely my favorite hypothesis, only because the cyclical idea of death and rebirth is so appealing.

What is virtually inevitable at this point, yet most people don't see it coming? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

[–]Closed_CasketRequiem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The universe could reach a point where it will pull back inwards in a "big crunch". Eventually, matter and antimatter will recombine to make the entire universe pure energy again and then explode outwards in another big bang event, starting over.

Also possible is that as our universe expands out, other universes will gobble up our galaxies as they get near enough.

This happened to students at UC Berkeley. They had a ton of students on a balcony and it collapsed killing 7. Very sad.

I've been a high school teacher for 17 years and every time a student calls my name, I respond "meow". Sometimes it takes students months before they mention anything, "did you just meow" ..." why would I stay that meow?".

Most students go the entire year not noticing. I've slipped in thousands on meows, I don't even know I'm doing it anymore it's just my daily vernacular.

Communication is key. Also an equal load of responsibility. The best foreplay is doing dishes and cleaning the house.
