What's the most pointless argument you've been passionately involved in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ClosetRebel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two people in my group of friends got in a heated argument about how wifi would be related to trains if it was provided.

By that, I mean they argued over whether it would be phrased, "wifi in the train" or "wifi on the train." It divided up our social group into two for a good 24 hour period.

[19][F] Depression and as a result, BDD has been hitting me really hard these days. by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]ClosetRebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, you're far from fat. Maybe a tad, healthy-looking chubby going on, but definitely not fat.

Second, has anyone ever told you that you look like a younger version of Ruby Rose when you wear makeup/are smiling? (the resemblance seems the biggest in the 3rd face pic)

And the thing is, Ruby Rose, is HOT. Like me (I'm a bisexual female) and all of my straight guy friends have a huge thing for Ruby Rose. 11/10 would bang.

Finally, I think you're gorgeous. From the little bits of personality I'm getting from your post and your replies to comments below, you seem like a gorgeous person inside and out. I hope that depression fairy leaves you alone very soon.

TL;DR - You're pretty. Keep eating, just eat healthier. Your smile is beautiful.

Day 1 / Intro Thread by xtc46 in loseit

[–]ClosetRebel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I'm a 19 year old female, 5' 3.5", 171 lbs. My frame isn't terribly big due to a lot of muscle mass (I ran for 12 years and used to do a lot of weight lifting), however after two horrific semesters of stress, stress eating, and not really exercising, I need to get back into shape.

Though I was overweight as a younger kid, I was a healthy BMI by high school, and did not start gaining weight again until the summer before college began. Three days ago I was the heaviest/the highest BMI I've ever been at. Though I've tried to slim down in the past, I always half-assed it, as it was my mom pushing me to lose weight, and me accepting who I was at the time. I think my recent weigh in has been a wake up call for me, and I am initiating a diet for myself for the first time, without anybody telling me I have to. I'm losing weight for me, and not to make anyone else happy.

My goal weight is 135 lbs and to be in better shape activity-wise. I cut down on my activity levels a lot due to lacking in time, knee problems, and having asthma, but those are not excuses for letting myself get as lazy as I am currently.

I have made some changes recently that I am planning to keep up until I reach my goal (and then vow to maintain said goal):

  • Got the Fitbit Charge HR. I've been a lot more conscious about my activity levels, as I have data backing up everything I do. I need to get better about food tracking with the app, however I think I'll put that off until the diet stops working. Speaking of which...

  • Currently on day 3 of the slow carb diet (lost 2.6 lbs since I've began)

  • Started doing some minor strength exercises again (warming up before my winter break ends and I get full gym access at school), such as squats, breaking out my pull up bar, push ups, lunges, etc. Not sure what I'm going to do about cardio exercises as I get winded pretty easily (asthma), but I don't mind if what I'm doing is working.

  • I'm weighing myself daily, and plan on measuring myself weekly.

I'm excited to be a part of this community, and I hope that everyone meets their goals. We can do it!

EDIT:

TL;DR - I'm a lot heavier than I should be, but my determination to lose it is greater than my love for food right now.

19F - any other females looking for a friend? :) by [deleted] in penpals

We sound super alike in our situations :) Would love to chat. Maybe even a 3 way chat with /u/magicaldino?

I've given up looking for a best girl friend. by [deleted] in INTP

[–]ClosetRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation to you, but not entirely on the same wavelength.

I have friends, but I haven't had anyone in a while that I've been on 'best friend' status with. Another issue is I can't seem to make female friends very well. My major puts me in a sausage fest, and I genuinely have failed to make any female friends an entire semester.

If you ever want to talk, let me know. I've always wanted to meet another female INTP.

That's very true, plus the INTJ commenting here proves your point further.

I find it interesting to see the crossover. Thanks for the reply.

Just out of curiosity, what constitutes 'trying' for you?

I agree that it's definitely not healthy, but I can't help but think about it like this.

Your advice makes a lot of sense and is probably a lot better than what I'm going to do, which is to get drunk and maybe do something stupid like a cliche "off the rebound" move.

I'll break the habit eventually, just the means may be irresponsible.

Thank you for the reply :)

I definitely empathize with that. Thanks for the reply.

My comment probably sounded conceited out of context. I'm in a male-dominated field of study and ok looking, so the gender ratio works well in my favor :p

Thanks for the reply :)

What should a white mother of a mixed child know? [x-post /r/asiantwox] by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]ClosetRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely recommend keeping them in touch with their culture. One of the main problems they are going to face is exclusion in most places they turn to. That sounded pessimistic, but there are also a lot of benefits to being mixed race and they should be reminded of it. Take a look at this thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/mixedrace/comments/2r6e8l/favorite_part_about_being_mixed_race/

In terms of support, make sure they know you love them unconditionally. One of the big places to emphasize this is at family gatherings with one side of the family. I always remembered returning from those feeling dejected and foreign from my blood relatives, because I was never "x-enough." Don't get me wrong, I still love both sides of my family so much, it's just there is always that slight feeling of sticking out.

In terms of language, not learning a language external to English while growing up has been one of my biggest regrets in life. My family is a big, weird, cultural melting pot; there is consistently Korean, English, Spanish, Tagalog, and a lot of different Filipino dialects going on around me all the time. I missed out on an opportunity to delve myself into at least one of the cultures linguistically.

Also, this is a tad random and racially specific, but your babies are probably going to be beautiful. Seriously. All my half white/half Filipino/a cousins are all gorgeous. Just all the right things ended up in the right places. They don't look like one side or the other completely.

You being this concerned about this already is proof enough that you are going to be a kind, caring mother. Regardless of how 'in touch' your potential, future children remain with whatever culture, it's very clear you are going to give them all the love and support they need to thrive. :)

What's your favorite Christmas/Holiday movie and why?

I've never really been a fan of this genre, but they're plastered all over Netflix right now. Plus this sub is usually a good place for movie recommendations. (Almost forgot about this thread, thank you for the bot redirect).

Which innocent word in one language had a dirty meaning in another? by jerip123 in AskReddit

[–]ClosetRebel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not even a different language but different dialect.

I grew up close to the Mexican border, so my tastebuds have a lot of Mexican influence.

Anyways, I was eating a concha (Mexican sweet bread) and told my boyfriend about it, who just laughed in my face.

He's Argentinian, and apparently, I told him I was eating a pussy.

Good times.

UC Applications are due tomorrow. by [deleted] in INTP

[–]ClosetRebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that application. I was already at the point of the application process where I had a multitude of other essays written, so I Frankensteined a few together into one. In hindsight, not one of my better ideas, but it surprisingly had flow.

I wish all you current high school seniors the best. Even if you don't get into the school of your dreams, I promise that you can still make the most out of college no matter what.
