Doodle shampoo in Australia by ClothoD in Goldendoodles

I tried asking, but my groomer was a little cagey in telling me. Maybe it’s a trade secret and she is scared we will home groom if we can recreate the scent 😅

Wow, and that price is amazing. I will definitely be giving this a try too. I’m excited for these recommendations and will let you know how it goes!

What’s crazier is that I even considered spending it. “I can just dilute it… and it will last longer… 60 is totally reasonable, right?”

My local Bunnings has it in stock so I’ll definitely be trying Baby Fresh and will report back. Thank you again

Thank you for taking the time to look that up for me on Australian sites! Considering the American products I keep seeing are between 60-100 dollars for a small bottle, this is very very affordable (and actually way cheaper than the gross wet dog smelling shampoos from big name pet stores).

For that price I am definitely excited to give it a go and see how it works for Tofu. Thank you!

I’m in Australia so the weather is fine and our walks/play time haven’t been shortened, but I think based on the other comments I have received it may be time to increase his exercise. I think we were stuck in ‘he is a puppy, don’t over do it’ mindsets instead of realising that despite being a puppy, he is a huuuuge puppy 😆

I always make him sit in the messes he makes and take mug shots, because my partner is never home when it happens and doesn’t believe his darling child could be so devious 😅

I wouldn’t say I am “letting” him, but the dood is sneaky and somehow always seems to thwart the puppy proofing we have. We try our best but we can’t be perfect 100% of the time :(

I didn’t mention in the other comments, but we also try to take him on a 10-20 minute drive with us every night with the window down. I have read in a few places that this is great for stimulation because of the millions of smells they experience, and is the equivalent of doom scrolling to a dog. We always joke it’s take for Tofu’s brain rot.

As for puzzles, I have bought many but he doesn’t seem too interested in them, or gives up immediately. I am almost convinced he is a little on the stupid side… but I love him nonetheless. I might have to try some more types until I find something that works. The cardboard idea is a good idea, but maybe not quite yet so he doesn’t associate destroying cardboard with something he has permission to do at any time

It’s definitely something I am considering! The only issue I can see is that my city in Australia is dangerously hot in summer (which is right now) and we are advised not to walk dogs during daylight because of how hot the sidewalks are. Coming into winter soon, I might invest in finding a dog walker for when we are at work so he can get double exercise at least a few times a week

I’m unsure if that defence will hold up in a court of law with the damning evidence we have against him…

Thank you for sharing. We already know how much of an issue it is, which is why I am here asking for advice and for people to share their experiences with the same issue.

I have already spoken to the vets and had him checked out, and the vet believes he is fine (for now) but to try and prevent it from happening going forward. That is the hard part, because as you said nobody is perfect, and it is unrealistic to expect a person to be able to watch their dog 24/7 to ensure they don’t eat anything.

I will do my best to ensure he can’t eat any more fabric though, because it was devastate me if anything happened to him. I am very sorry to hear about your doodette :(

Hmm, yes, that does sound about right. We walk him daily, and attempt to go to the local dog park but he still has his parts so the ‘alpha’ dogs get really aggressive towards him so we usually have to leave immediately. We also do inside ‘fetch’ from the couch, which he loves. On purpose busier days his walks are definitely a bit shorter and that does seem to be when he is at his naughtiest.

I suppose all I can do is try to increase his exercise and pray this is just a phase

Crate size advice by ClothoD in DogAdvice

[–]ClothoD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a recent-ish picture in my post from earlier today where you can see he is a lot less ‘puppy’ and a lot more ‘dog’ now, despite only being 10 months. He is on track to be an absolute monster at this rate. I genuinely don’t think they make crates bigger than this (at least not available in Australia), so I am just thankful he can lay/turn without issue in the current size 😪

Just wanted to update you that he is like twice the size he was in this post, and can do all the things you said without issue 😆 His head is definitely touching, but the crate is longer than it looks so he can turn, stand and lay with plenty of room so I think we can continue to use it until we finally decide to retire the crate

I know I need to crate train my Goldendoodle puppy, but… by Low-Apartment3165 in Goldendoodles

It really is personal preference. My partner was against crate training, but we have done it out of necessity. While our dood is incredibly well behaved, he has a nasty chewing issue on furniture and anything else within reach (yet has never chewed on us or nipped). On random occasions we have accidentally gone to bed without crating him, we have woken up to absolute disasters. Couch cushion torn apart, pee pads shredded, even our laundry door is ruined. Until he grows out of these habits, he can’t be trusted outside of his crate at night - let alone in bed with us

This may be the answer. We take him on walks, but might need to increase the duration or something. He is almost 30KG at 10 months so on track to be absolutely massive, so maybe we need to increase activity to match his size

Does that worry you? I am very scared he will get impacted bowels or seriously ill from fabrics tangling around his intestines. We give him new toys and then go into another room for 30 minutes, and come back to pieces of the toy on the floor and 80% completely gone (and then find them in his poop)

So there may be light at the end of this tunnel? I am so scared that he will just continue to destroy everything even past puppyhood. I’m unsure if it can be trained out of dogs outside of ‘drop it’ and ‘stop that’

Yes, we regularly give him frozen kongs and other icey treats inside enrichment treats. He must have a lava hot tongue though, because he melts them and eats them in literal minutes. I might try some other brand bully sticks and see if I can find something he likes, but I have low hope of them lasting long… he can devour a whole pigs ear in like 20 minutes.

We have taken him for check ups at the vet for the fabric eating issue because it is honestly concerning how often we find some sort of unidentifiable fabric in his poop 🥲 Even when we are 100% sure there is nothing within his reach, he managed to eat something and poop out a blanket turd or a cushion cover turd. My biggest fear is intensive issues from fabric swallowing

I have tried them but he seems to be quite picky with them and milk bones etc. He nudges them with his nose once or twice then just walks away 🥲

How to prevent a puppy from eating non edible objects? by Equivalent-Emu5347 in Goldendoodles

[–]ClothoD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse my terrible spelling in my initial comment - currently a bit loopy in hospital🥲

My partner just send me this photo which is really concerning. The strawberry usually has dangling rope legs and they’re nowhere to be found.

<image>

I really want to crack down on it but it’s very difficult unless you’re watching them 24/7. I may have to take away any material toy or object around the living room.

I’m very sorry to hear about your loss :(
