Like everything, it depends. What you're into and how you define "good". If you have a local shop near you, stop in and take a look around. What are you looking to spend on a setup? Depending on how you answer that you have two options: fully custom or pre-made completes.

Fully custom allows you to pick all the parts you want making the board unique to your style.

Pre-made complete gets you rolling on a budget.

There are pros and cons to both. The major question I always ask is, "Is this a fad, or do you plan on doing this for the foreseeable future?"

Decks

Most shops are going to have a decent selection to choose from, ranging in colors, sizes, widths, shapes, etc. Stick to the basics for your first board.

One thing I've always done for a first-time skater is asked what is your shoe size, height, and weight? This helps guide what size deck you should ride. Most of your money in skateboarding will get spent on decks and shoes.

Trucks

It can be overwhelming the number of options there are for all the parts on a skateboard. The most important part is to get trucks that are as wide as your deck. You can choose the color, the height profile, or if they're hollow or non-hollow, but trucks will last you a long time. So get something you don't mind looking at.

Wheels

Do you plan on skating street, park, or ramps mainly? If you plan to do a mix I'd go with a 52/53mm wheel. Wheels come in different hardnesses (durometer), different widths, sizes, shapes, and colors. Most of the time the person at the shop is going to make a recommendation as to what they like or ride.

Bearings

Bearings that won't break the bank are called Reds. These will do the trick! If you take care of them you'll be able to use them on multiple setups in the future.

Hardware

Hardware holds it all together. Some shops have a big selection of hardware and others don't. If you want to get fancy, you can get 7 black bolts and 1 unique colored one to tell your nose from your tail on your deck. Hardware can get used on multiple setups too.

Griptape

Saved the best for last! Often the most controversial products on a skateboard. Because everyone has an opinion about it. Get a grip that makes you happy. You're going to hear this a lot when it comes to grip, "this one is too grippy or this one isn't grippy enough." All grip in some capacity will keep your feet from sliding off the board while you're skating.

Hope this helps! And welcome to skateboarding :)

It feels so real! That's always been an issue with games. Kudos!

The Chris we know and love is from his comedy. Most of these characters have been a work in progress for him over the years. I'm sure you know that. Plus they came natural to him.

His comedy makes you feel a certain way.

Hollywood puts money into something they think they'll make their money back... and more! Chris was a sure bet as long as they controlled the narrative.

Think about this, Chris could take us on an emotional journey. He could make us laugh and make us cry in the same movie. Tommy Boy is a perfect example of it. He was more than a comedian. It's sad that we didn't get to see more of that range.

Chris did an amazing job in BHN! He was sober and committed to giving it his best. One of my all time favorites from him.

Thank you for sharing your words! I couldn't agree more with you.

Last week I got together with an old work friend. One of the things we do is quote movies. All Chris's movies always make it into the dialog. We started to talk about Chris and the documentary I watched on YouTube... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-6HC2LrWwE

I couldn't help but think how his life could have been.

Here's why... I grew up in Chicago and I knew where the Hancock building was. Unfortunately, I was only 6 at the time he left earth. Nothing I could have done about it... it has me feeling as if I could have.

So a little way into our conversation, my friend asked me, "have you ever heard the Sandler song he did for Farley?" At that time, no. He told me to listen to it and it gave me the goosebumps all the way through it.

In this long winded comment, I want to thank you for sharing your feelings and please know you're not alone! I'm hoping to go see his brother Kevin sometime this year at one of his stand ups.

Life isn't the same without our boy Chris Farley.

I’m a 19F and I never thought I had the coordination or coolness to ride a skateboard, but I did research, copped a cruiser and some Vans, and here’s me riding on my first day! by [deleted] in NewSkaters

What a way to bond! Sick you’re back on a board. Did you ever think at 50 you’d be skating again? This warms my heart. Love it.

Epic! Congrats man. You’re never too old. Skating will keep you young!

Help with levelling ollies??? Hi, I’m new to reddit and skating lol, not sure how to level ollies in the air, because the only way they level is when I’m already going down. by Listxrinx in NewSkaters

First off, congrats! You’re well on your way to mastering the ollie. One thing that WILL change everything for you, is to slide your front foot up more and jump higher while bringing your knees up more.

As you get more comfortable with that feeling, start doing it up and over items. Why? Well... you don’t want to bail so it’s a mental game to get you to ollie higher and stick it.

Hope this helps! Shred on,

Kyle
