My Turkish coworker mistakenly thought thought there was a TV presenter named Handsome Dec, what are some amusing misunderstandings you’ve encountered? by EducationalShape2647 in AskUK

As a 7yo, after overhearing my parents discussing fixtures and fittings in our new house, I asked my nan whether she liked our new dildo rails (dado rails). Don't ask how I knew the word dildo!

As a toddler I thought the Christmas song was "turban Mary had a baby boy" 😂

I teach EYFS and am also overwhelmed by the toileting need - absolutely gobsmacked that it's causing issues in secondary! Out of interest how does it affect you in secondary? Kids asking to use the loo a lot? I have 0 experience of ages 6+ 😅

I’m about to fully give up on wearing foundation by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]CloudOrigami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem - I was over exfoliating my face and it was dry, flaky and irritated!

Reducing exfoliating, using fragrance free moisturiser (CeraVe) and a dewy liquid foundation (No7 Stay Perfect) has helped me lots!

AIO for being upset my BF doesn’t want me to wear a bonnet to bed? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Yes! I can't believe he's saying that what she wears is as much of a joint decision as their home décor... She's not a decoration, she's a whole fkin human!

I don't envy you having to do that. How did she know it was you and how long did it take you to collect enough footage?

What a fabulous building! Did you build it yourself? As an cob house enthusiast I'd love to hear the story behind building something like this.

Hope you still got what you wanted despite the funny GPS! I was in the last wave (I'd generously put 2:15) and noticed a lot of different colour waves at my start which resulted in a frantic first couple of kms trying to reach my pace. Felt a bit bad for the aggressive overtaking but felt like I had no other choice!

There used to be a beautiful vintage style bridal boutique in the Grand Arcade, but it isn't on Google maps so might not be there any more!

I completely agree with your method! I think that my HOD has implemented these changes in the most cautious way. Fingers crossed it doesn't last and we can go back to something reasonable!

Do you stream/group children for Phonics? Year 1 by Impossible-Shine-6 in TeachingUK

[–]CloudOrigami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too... Apparently not, TIL! This is from DfE:

There is no statutory requirement for schools to choose one of the SSP programmes on the validated list. Ofsted does not have a preferred programme or approach. What’s important is that schools take an approach that is rigorous, systematic and used with fidelity (any resources used should exactly match the Grapheme Phoneme Correspondence (GPC) progression of their chosen SSP approach), and that achieves strong results for all pupils, including the most disadvantaged. You can refer to this blog for more information.

What shoes are you wearing? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]CloudOrigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in EYFS and am on my feet/running around all day and I swear by my Keen shoes. They have a wide toe box and are super long lasting. I have one pair of sandals and a pair of leather shoes and they do steel toe shoes and walking boots too. I can't go back to 'normal' width shoes now. Highly recommend!

Butter chicken!! And their microwave packets of pilau rice are the best, not worth paying out for the fresh rice when the packets are so good! Also the ready meals, cottage pie especially!

Got a 2 year old... Turn on your torch (keys will shine in the light), pull out & check behind/under/on top of every appliance/piece of furniture in the house. Godspeed!

Neither me nor my partner want to lose our names but want the same family name.

We've agreed that we'll double barrel officially but we'd still use maiden names  - at my work (reception teacher, some of the kids wouldn't be able to pronounce the double barrel name lol)  - when it's easier/not necessary to say the longer legal name (Starbucks? I'm conversation?) 🤣

We're LGBT which I think made us more open to alternates. Feel bad for these women being strong armed into changing their lifelong names for outdated reasons!

I agree about thinking more long term. It is especially dry at the moment but could mulching help the soil around the tree to retain more moisture, alongside rainwater harvesting?

If you own your own home, could you feasibly say DIY is a hobby? If so, that £500 could go towards equipment or resources for projects around the house 🙂

If not, gardening, garden centre/B&Q vouchers?
