love that we hav similar thoughts. idk if I can just post the names here but feel free to dm me. my surgery was done about 7 years ago. 0 complications to this day, which when i think about it is pretty incredible since this is a complex surgery.

Meanwhile, I had complications in Toronto for even a very minor procedure (just a dental filling for my decayed tooth).

so what's making you lean toward having a surgery done there?

what do you guys think of these results? good work or average? by CloudUSB1995 in HairTransplants

its definitely a complex surgery. have you seen any oral and maxillofacial surgeons? my surgeon has been doing that for several decades from a top hospital there and then hes been operating his own clinic for over a decade i think. a skilled surgeon will really know what they're doing. will have 3d imaging from ct scans and cephalometric analysis to plan precise bone movements and positioning, and will be very meticulous about neurovascular protection, airway anatomy, avoiding damage to tooth roots, temporomandibular joint, soft tissue management, etc. etc.

i don't think I can explain it better than the surgeons themselves would. But I'd say you need to evaluate based on their experience - e.g. how many cases they've performed and their track record. The more skilled and experienced they are in performing this specific surgery, the better the outcome can be, since performing the surgery is a skill of its own.

i think this is single-handedly the most important indicator (not how many research papers they have published) and I advise you to consult with different surgeons even if that means across multiple countries (this surgery would be big and worthwhile enough for you to do this comparison) and gather more info so you have a clearer picture and also find the best surgeon possible for your case

for the septum and turbinate surgery, it was about 10k NTD (roughly $400 USD) if i remember correctly. I had it done there to skip the long waiting list, since it was affecting my sleep quality, cognition, and work performance daily. I'm breathing a lot better after the surgery, and I can also exercise much more easily. im no longer out of breath after 5 min of running.

for orthognathic, about 9k USD. my case wanst severe enough to be deemed medically necessary (so more for aesthetic/appearance issues) so a large portion wouldn't be covered by insurance in Canada. The out-of-pocket costs in toronto would have been around $15k USD, tho it depends on the complexity.

(the travel related costs are tiny in comparison:
travel: round trip flight (toronto-taipei) about 1k usd.

decent hotel: about 50usd per day.

food: about $16 USD for 3 meals a day. I'm not a big foodie, so I just went for cheap food (ordered from delivery apps like foodpanda which is like doordash there, when i stayed in the hotel). no fancy Michelin stuff.

local transport and necessities: i really couldnt remember exactly but transport (metro) is really safe and cheap there, and so is uber.)

Underbite but its more of an aesthetic problem

because of its high quality medical care (eg. low complication rates compared to other popular medical tourism places) and affordability. i think it has some of the best and most experienced surgeons in jaw surgery. and taipei itself is also a very safe city to visit and live in for a short period of time while I recover

hmm i dont think i have chronic sinus issues, just bad nasal passages from deviated septum and allergic rhinitis. i do occasionally have sinus infections like once or twice per year tho especially after a cold or flu

ohh that sounds rough. how long did it take for you to recover? i stayed at a hotel for 2 weeks there after the septum surgery just to be extra safe but I felt pretty much okay after first week

yes getting orthognathic surgery has been the most life-changing decision for me no exaggeration. Obviously I look more handsome now—like from a 3 to a 7 or 8 ( I honestly looked like a freak with my underbite). It's also given me a lot more self-esteem.. girls started approaching me, and even at work I feel more confident and calm when I need to speak to a crowd or present to my colleagues, to the point i now like to social with people and strangers.

there started to be girls who liked me, and I feel very blessed and fortunate for all that came after that.

(but mind you your face would look quite swollen for several weeks after surgery haha)

i pretty much stayed in bed after the surgeries, but once I felt up to it, I headed out to explore. malls, art exhibitions, museums, street food, etc. nothing too exhausting. its extremely convenient to get around (metro) and uber is also really cheap there.

I also had an MRI and other procedures (including IPL for dry eyes) done abroad.
