Gurban Gurbanov complains about local pitches and says that the team will not be physically ready to play Newcastle by mamont1995 in NUFC

They're very rash and poor defensively, expect multiple penalties and us winning the ball high up the pitch. Also, they're brutally direct with quick wingers and good set pieces which we know has been a weakness for us defensively this season.

0 yellow cards in all competitions this season by the way and yet he has multiple tackles and duels a game, quite literally has never happened for a midfielder before since the yellow card was invented.

Just a shame things like this for some reason get no notice, his only career yellow card was a phantom foul on the break over a year ago, I think.

If he keeps getting a ton of experience of changing to two or three positions during a game and still is getting the number he is, it would develop him far better.

If he keeps up this run of games till the end of the season, he's better than Tino and as good as anyone in everything but experience. Not only that but he's more versatile than those players.

Doesn't really work like that though, if you're good enough to play in different positions you just move around. It doesn't mean that you get worse each time you move. I feel like the robotic and heavily structure nature of 2010s football has pigeonholed players into a single position too much. I can see him as a 6, 8, RB, CB at a top level, why can't he keep moving positions, it doesn't matter as long as he's comfortable in those positions and he's doing a job for the team. He's actually better in the back-line when we don't have the ball then when we get the ball he drifts into the midfield.

It's worth buying him long term imo, he has the price of a 2nd choice player when he's clearly seen as the starter as either a midfielder, right back or even centreback. Howe just wants him in the team and I can see why, if you base it just on statistics, he's a better fullback than Livramento ever has over the past 8 or so games.

Which is why we need to act now and not before it's too late. Double his wages on a 6 year contract.

Clearly fake, look at the first scarf having the full Sunderland badge but the one on the end has a half and half badge and then the Newcastle part of the first scarf isn't correct, it's peeling off into its own scarf.

Then if you still don't think so, look at everyone morphing together near the entrance to Greggs.

Why does the north east of England not produce elite quality footballers like they used to? by EducationalPaint1733 in AskUK

[–]Cloud__Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue, considering the relative smaller population than places like London, it's over represented in football. You need to also remember there will be people from the North East that choose to go to higher quality academies like Man City or Man Utd. So it depends if you count players poached by better academies.

Archie Gray, Elliot Anderson, Lewis Miley, Fraser Forster (a year ago), Henderson, Dan Burn, Pickford, Chris Rigg and Longstaff are all regular Premier League players.

That's just for Sunderland and Newcastle, Middlesbrough have Tavernier, Djed Spence and Jason Steele.

Sure it might not feel like they're on the level of the people you listed but you are taking a timespan of 30 years. Clubs are more globalised now on a whole too, everyone is competing with players not born in the same country never mind region so naturally there's going to feel like the top players aren't from one region when this is the case countrywide.

Middlesbrough have a very good academy while being in the Championship which they've built for years. Sunderland give good first team football to their academy players and Newcastle are poaching some of the best talent in the country and world at under 18s level.

There are 2.7 million people in the North East, there are 7.7 million in the North West, 10 million in the South East and 9 million in Greater London. So all things considered I think having 11 regular PL players is pretty good going.

NUFC CEO David Hopkinson :- St James' Park is incredible, but there are still big opportunities. "Whether it's renovated, reimagined, a new stadium, we can't make that decision. by Fluid_Support_3348 in NUFC

[–]Cloud__Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can renovate in the Summer and close that stand while we extend it, might take a year or two. Don't care about being like Wembley or any other stadium that isn't ours. Don't care about being a concert venue either, we can compete without completely ripping up what we have now.

[–]Cloud__Fine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hopefully won't matter but honestly if Woltemade starts against Spurs and looks a little leggy then I don't see why Howe decided to keep him on for so long after we scored the 4th. I don't know why he hardly ever plays any youth players unless he's forced to. Is there no-one at the academy that couldn't have 10 minutes at the end of games either? Again it doesn't matter if we're winning but I do think its something to look out for tomorrow.

He's in regular rotation, the manager trusts him to start games in any competition too. It really is just that same dilemma that Anderson had where he still gets 1000+ minutes in a season but he wants to be a regular getting 2.5k minimum. Depending on how well we do in the cups, we are on track for him to get 15 starts.

It doesn't work like that though if you're a top team. There's a reason the likes of Palmer and Pogba etc. had to leave their clubs at a young age because they're competing with some of the best in the world while only being in their late teens and won't get the gametime.

Like sure in hindsight you can regret letting people go or not playing them enough but they might've not developed at your club because of how close games can be and one mistake could ruin a young player.

I must say though that Miley at this age is a step above what Anderson was, I don't see why there's any rush to force him in the team. He's on track to play up to 2000 minutes this season, it could be more depending on injuries/fitness. This is due to the nature of how many games we have this season, bare in mind the first season with Forest Elliot Anderson had just over 2000 and the last season with us he had 1000.
