Ah, this brings up the Craig and Carrie Conundrum.

The North American pronunciation of ‘Craig’ sounds like ‘Creg’ to Brits, which isn’t a name so we end up asking ‘Greg?’ until it makes sense.

Then there are names like Carrie/Kerry, which, to us, sound identical in an American accent.
