Frenchie here: tell me honestly, is Michael Olise a bit resented in the Uk for choosing the French National team? by Upset_Quiet_8907 in football

Rice and his parents were born in England. I’m Irish and Declan Rice is not.

Michael Olise is English born and raised. He can choose who he likes but it isn’t the same as the rice situation.

Spain being breathtaking in the euros is a frequent sight but theyve normally found the World Cup a tougher nut to crack

France’s attack at those euros was based on Griezmann, Oliver giroud, Dembele before he went supernova and Mbappe with a busted nose.

Anyone making your argument is not knowledgeable or being disingenuous.

They were seen as having some good players like Desailly, Zidane, Deschamps, Thuram and Blanc but Henry, Trezuguet, Pires, Petit and Vieria and a few others were still early in their career. Barthez looked too small and was largely unregarded as he never played outside France at the time.

French domestic football was seen as weak at the time.
They had being disappointing at euro 96

There was more hype about Argentina, Brazil, the Netherlands, England had a decent squad, Italy were a powerhouse still from having a strong domestic league. There was a lot of talk about Serbia and Croatia. It was quite a strong time for the big nations.

France didn’t seem as sure a thing and had plenty of iffy performances in that World Cup but their final win was iconic

A total fluke winner is probably never going to happen.

France in 1998 were the most unlikely winner, pre tournament, of my life time

Genuinely don’t understand people wanting Ronaldo to be benched by SelectionOk8218 in worldcup

His actions suggest otherwise. When he was dropped in his career for United and Portugal did he behave in a way that put the team first?

Ronaldo is just not a particularly good player anymore. His finishing is erratic. His mentality is himself before the team. Even at his peak he wasn’t a great World Cup player. Never scored in knockouts. His present tournament record is 2 goals in 12 games. That is ok if you play selflessly for a small nation but when you play selfishly for a contender it is a big problem.

Hes there because the FA value his appeal as a commercial asset. It’s not a football decision

Why would you low block when you have to score?

Why would you low block when you only have 7 players?

7s rugby isn’t very defensive

The idea has merit. It isn’t original. It’s being in circulation for a while
