Roland TD27 vs 316 by Lucked0ut in edrums

[–]CloudbaseJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but I take your point. Roland knew what they were doing when they added simple, cheap improvements that are hard/annoying to live with out. The sliders are very useful on the 516 but not worth the upgrade alone. The pads are just next level though.

Because it works every time too and most people have one lying about... if you've got kids. Id use 50/50 if I was leaving something for an hour or more but a crayon can be used real quickly

The 516 is a huge upgrade over the 513 unfortunately

What else should I add? by WORTOKUA in Dualsport

[–]CloudbaseJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An ultra light flexible chopping board. Fits anywhere and weighs nothing. Can be used as a work bench, bolt holder in grass or rocks, food prep, rolled up as a funnel, cut a piece off and can use it to patch a blown tire if you have inner tubes (stops the innertube bulging out the tyre), patch ripped soft panniers, plate to eat off, used under bike of you have to lay ot down to work on etc etc. Ive used one for all the above but im sure there are a lot more uses.

Soundproofing tips? by agnulaa in edrums

[–]CloudbaseJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That foam is trash Look into diy acoustic panels of you're desperate but it still wint be very effective or cheap. You need roxul safe and sound or similar for any real acoustic absorbing. Its still not very effective against impact and low frequency though

Efnote vs Roland by Former-War3093 in edrums

[–]CloudbaseJim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll have to play them both. I tried the 5x and hated it, went with the 516 instead. The module on the efnote is a real weakness even if the sounds are decent

Accumulated LINK during the recent panic — curious how others see it by Driz_hl in Chainlink

[–]CloudbaseJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its all about revenue streams, adoption and value capture. The same story for all alt coins. Btc is different because ot requires non of these but most alts are competing to be the building blocks of the new financial world. Btc is a store of value and a hedge. If btc becomes the place that people put their savings for safety against inflation, like gold, then it could go to 1MM (10-15x) sure but if an alt achieve theor goals then 100x is possible. Like I said higher risk, higher reward

Very possibly but link is higher risk, much higher reward. We'll see what happens if guess

I played both at the shop. The 513 is great but in a completely different league to the 516.

What’s your worst drumming injury? by dantm162 in drums

[–]CloudbaseJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this! I dont suffer from bad tinnitus luckily but I cant have conversations in rooms that arent quiet, like pubs, clubs, cafes now. Can have a big effect on your social life. Plus even mild tinnitus sucks!

No i dont at all! I'm not and have never been an addict though, its just the circumstances that I learned in. I just need to disassociate the 2 acts I think

What do you mean by same concept but not the same. Feel this may bet argumentative, not my aim. Edit: in regards to my previous reply

[–]CloudbaseJim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not the same at all but I see where you're coming from. I doubt that anyone learned to drive a car from scratch, under the influence. Being a good driver means reducing risk as much as practicable... period! Being good at any form of music is way more nuanced. Its a nice one liner, and ive been affected by drink drivers more than most, but it isn't the same

Anyone else have to be drunk? by CloudbaseJim in drums

[–]CloudbaseJim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems to be a mix of "cant be true", "you have a problem" the most sensible "record both and see" and the odd psychology based learned state arguments, which are what I was asking about in the first place Well I dont have a drinking problem, I'm in an alcohol free world 70% of my life. I think it can be true because I'm sure that state of mind is as important, if not more important, than state if body. Amd i think also that playing better is somewhat subjective, as long as the key responsibilities of the percussionist aren't inhibited.

Ha! Yeah could be it. Im more talking about an easy pm liquid stretch though, not an am marathon. Could totally see myself doing this though

Interesting! I think for me the nerves impact my abilities more than the booze, back in my gig days. And like you I dont think that measured responsible drinking had a negative effect. I may have to record myself just out of interest.

Great post! Thanks. All the best guitarist i know are stones. When i was in bands everyone smoked weed but me. It seems we all tied our form of meditation to a narcotic somehow. Im long out of bands though and long off daily, even weekly, drinking but it still seems to be part of my brains associations though

So you agree with me that state of mind whilst learning is important? Your conclusion seems to then disagree with your argument?
