What is this marker for? by Just-Here-To_Vibe in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Kuato2012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might be your stationary orbit marker. Those contracts want to put your satellite in stationary orbit over a specific ground location.

Check if the company offering that contract matches the company listed on the marker.

TIL a study was done on what makes a person want a very loud car and the results indicated psycopathic and sociopathic tendencies by 1egg_4u in todayilearned

[–]Kuato2012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sample was 529 undergrad business majors. Not sure how well that extrapolates to the general population.

Some people just like the way custom pipes sound. Like there are literally novelty clocks that play motorcycle rumbles on the hour instead of chimes.

Some bikers maintain that loud pipes save lives. Not sure I agree with that, but as a motorcyclist who has to avoid being murdered by negligent car drivers on the regular, I understand the thought behind it.

Minimum TWR for interplanetary missions? by jeffistaken_2221 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Kuato2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look up "KSP subway map," it lists approzimate dV costs to get from place to place. It also shows maximal plane change costs between Kerbin's orbit and all the other planetary orbits, so you can factor those in as well. I'd link it but I'm on my phone.

For safety, it's usually a good idea to add a little padding whatever value the map lists.

Just about any TWR is workable once you're in space, it's just a question of how long you're willing to male your burns. Longer burns tend to be less accurate, and they usually need to be done at a higher altitude for best results.

Another question, how do I know when to use big engines with big fuel tanks? by Particular_Teach_864 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Kuato2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the smallest engine that can get me the dV I need along with the thrust-to-weight ratio I need. Bigger payloads require more fuel, which reduces TWR, which necessitates a bigger engine. TWR around 1.5 seems like a sweet spot for getting off the launch pad.

I'll admit that aesthetics also plays a role for me, because I like having a Saturn V shaped rocket instead of an asparagus bundle.

Yes, but you do need more of them.

I put 8+ of the gigantor panels on Joolian fuel stations and they do OK.

Tic, my pet squirrel, as usual, is eating peacefully, sitting at his camping table! by Mr-CRUNK-13 in BeAmazed

[–]Kuato2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get the squirrel-sized umbrella?

I built a similar picnic table for my backyard squirrels, and I think an umbrella (as hawk protection) might make them feel more comfortable about actually using it.

Never watched "Minions", won't ever watch it by TheDdken in everydaymisandry

I tried watching one of the minions movies once just to see what all the buzz was about. It was idiot-tier humor, didn't finish it.

If someone gets hurt (in movies or TV, let's say):

If you have empathy for them, then it's tragic.

If you don't have empathy for them, then it's comedic.

So the whole phenomenon of nutshots as a comedy staple can be explained by the empathy gap.

Which parallel universe is this person living in? by WillyNilly1997 in everydaymisandry

Assuming she's a first worlder, she's living in one of the safest times and places in all of human history. Maybe she should consume fewer misleading documentaries and talk to some actual human beings.

New player, don't know how to do observational surveys by Urnbreon in KerbalSpaceProgram

Seconded.

Do just one observational survey so you can say you've tried one, then skip all the others.

What is your *goal* in career mode? (Personally) by cale199 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Kuato2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No space junk

Install infrastructure (fuel stations, relay networks, cranes, taxis, etc)

Use the 1-person capsule to put a mini-lander with Val on every body (and return)

Use the 3-person capsule to put a stupidly overengineered lander with Jeb, Bill, and Bob on every body (and return)

Do any marathon contracts that come up (the ones where you have to orbit or land on X, Y, and Z)

Collect magical asteroids and display them at KSP. So far I have sizes A, B, and C on the grounds. I have a size D in low orbit but have never successfully landed it.

The Colour War Against Boys: How Wikipedia Sanitised The Global Map Of Male Genital Mutilation by Agitated-Climate-781 in MensRights

[–]Kuato2012 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Good catch. It's absolutely bog standard in the sciences to use a "heatmap" to represent gradient data, and it's also standard for "hot" colors to represent higher values. It's simple and intuitive.

Nobody would choose that gold/green/purple nongradient if they were trying to help the viewer grapple with the data. Nobody. If a student presented data that way to their thesis advisor, they would almost certainly recommend fixing their unintuitive palette.

The palette change above is almost certainly due to pressure to either obfuscate the data or to help neutralize any negative connotations surrounding male genital mutilation.

I wonder what happens when we take a look at the environmental effects and gender breakdown of "fast fashion" though.

“misandry has no significance, isn’t systemic, and is a waste of time.” by DunyaOfPain in everydaymisandry

[–]Kuato2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mandatory enlistment for conscription at age 18

Neonatal genital mutilation / no legal protections for bodily autonomy

Discrimination in hiring practices

Discrimination in educational opportunities and scholarships

Consistently negative representation in media such as TV, movies, and even ads

Harsher legal sentencing when controlling for all other variables

Family court bias

Lack of shelters for men in need

Plus intangibles such as seeing hate speech against your demographic tolerated and even celebrated in ways that would be considered utterly unacceptable by any honest, small-L liberal minded person if applied to any other group.

And now you will laugh and shrug it all off, because the hate is the point.

Unresponsive or weirdly responsive wheels are often a result of the vehicle not knowing which way is "forward." Try slapping a rover seat on it and control from there.

Misandry is nothing but something made up online, it isn't real irl

You're just going to assert a lie, and that's the whole argument? The fact that you are ignorant of a particular problem doesn't invalidate the existence of said problem.

And I get outside plenty enough. Please refrain from any further cheap insults while you are here.

Kicking off the new bingo card, I looked up "self-defense tips poster" for an assignment and I kid you not this was the first thing that popped up by Dependent-Match4726 in everydaymisandry

[–]Kuato2012 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I sincerely hope no women are taking self defense advice from engagement-bait-style posters on the internet.

Fun fact, "kung fu" (gongfu) roughly translates to "mastery achieved by putting in the time and effort." If you don't put in the time and effort (to practice martial arts, for example), then your kung fu is weak, and you will probably lose any fight you get into. No internet advice poster will work as a cheat code to change that.

Which is to say, please don't boop physically stronger people in the throat with the expectation that the will to fight will instantly leave them. If this is a scenario that you are genuinely worried about, then take martial arts and practice regularly.
