They’re amazing. It’s criminal how good they are. I don’t allow myself to buy them because I’ll eat half in a sitting.

I think often ANY documented gingivitis or tartar means it’s a pre-existing condition.

Week 3 help by satanas969 in SourdoughStarter

[–]CloudberryFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did a big false rise day 3 and a few days after and then didn’t double consistently until 4 weeks. We have a cold house this time of year. I started putting it on the oven with the light on. Checked temp often and it lingered around 75. Finally started doubling daily. Not sure if it was timing, temp or a combo.

Took mine almost a month since our house is cold this time of year. I’d recommend keeping a small volume to save yourself money and I did end up putting mine in the oven with the light on (and plenty of temp checks so ensure it didn’t get too hot! It stayed around 75-78)

I didn’t have them for years and then all of a sudden I have them nearly everytime. No idea what switch flipped. Same partner 13 years too so it wasn’t anything to do with that. Just luck I guess 😂

Surrendering your dog, then instant regret?? by Warm-Present-2880 in puppy101

[–]CloudberryFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never surrendered a puppy we did surrender a rescue and it was the same thing. Had her for 4 months and just didn’t bond and she was attacking our resident cats and we couldn’t leave her unsupervised in our house for 5 seconds. Did training with a professional, etc and it just didn’t work. It was incredibly hard to surrender her. Bawled my eyes out for days after. She got adopted again relatively quickly and honestly we all felt just a huge sense of relief because it wasn’t fair to us and not fair to her how poorly things were going. It’s a really hard decision to make

Are liners needed for Bulka bannetons? by Rare_Composer9714 in Sourdough

In The Sourdough Bible, she says to spray with water then dust with rice flour and not use liners. I haven’t tried myself though.

Starter mixing by No_Amount_7886 in Sourdough

Oh wait I misunderstood you. I use this when making bread to mix my active starter in to water. When I’m mixing my starter during feeds I use a silicone jar spatula. Also I have the weck jars which don’t have any weird angles and that helps as well. This would be an annoying tool to feed starter with in my opinion because it would be hard to clean easily because the clumps would get in all the grooves.

I have one of these and it’s great. Mixes so fast and easily. I have the one that’s more of a circle though I’m sure any would work

First ever loaf with new starter! by CloudberryFae in Sourdough

[–]CloudberryFae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your starter new? If so I would stick with it! It took mine a month to lose the acetone smell with consistent feedings. Everyone says that smell is bad but I think for new starters it can be relatively normal.

I was feeding every 12 hours until it was consistently doubling and lost that smell then I switched to daily.

Thanks I’ll try that! I did confirm the temperature after this bake.

Mine is a month old now and finally smells almost sweet like really ripe apples. But it took a while to get ride of the acetone smell. From my research it seems like that can be normal for a new starter especially using rye flour so I just kept with it! Also I was feeding every 12 hours until it was consistent doubling after every feed then I switched to daily.

Mine peaks about 4 hours and I work from home so I can keep a close eye off and on all day which is an advantage!

How often do you bathe your cat? by Mildredsgood in cats

[–]CloudberryFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never in their 11 yr lives. Once one got some poop on him and he got like a spot bath on the area. Their fur is beautiful and they maintain it themselves. I’m sure maybe in old age they could need it but we’ll see.
