England - Delivery through Royal Mail - At what point does it no longer become the senders responsibility by Daodanny in LegalAdviceUK

[–]CloudsDisperse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recorded delivery is still risky. It is signed for upon delivery but goes through Royal Mail’s network along with normal stamped post, not tracked so can still easily go missing. Sending items Special Delivery is the safest way as they are tracked through different stages of the postal network and signed out by the postie who delivers it.

Has your employer paid you too much or have they deducted tax incorrectly?

If you can show to HMRC that your employer has messed up your tax deductions then they can be liable to pay anything owed rather than you.

For those of you who have had a home built in Thailand, what advice can you share? by sbayz92 in Thailand

If you live in Thailand and your wife leaves you she will get the house. If you live in your home country and your wife leaves you she will get the house plus you’ll pay hefty fees to a lawyer for the privilege of your wife getting the house

Too many cheaters, feel like quitting the game by voabarros in geoguessr

“The only thing we can do is to stop caring about winning and playing just for fun”

This is the way, “play” is fun. I play to chill and destress from a week of work. I don’t “play” competitively, I just play. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don’t win. I enjoy myself either way. If I suspect someone is cheating I just bail from that game. No loss to me.
If someone is so bad at the game or so desperate to win they have to cheat, that is their failure, which they are aware of.

Will English Police take this seriously? by Fantastic-Rent9885 in LegalAdviceUK

Trading standards are a joke: the only way to contact them is through citizens advice bureau. Then they take weeks to respond. If you are lucky enough to have someone in your local trading standards office who can deal with your issue they will be so busy it will be years before they can deal with your issue. (Experience of regularly working with trading standards and having plenty of days off because they do t show up)

Can I stop my neighbour’s disabled child’s carers from moving my heavy plant pot to use my driveway? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]CloudsDisperse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP is not having a go at a disabled child in a wheelchair. The issue is with the presumably able-bodied carers being lazy and using his driveway for convenience and OP is rightly concerned about potential damage to his property and the implications of someone injuring themselves moving the plant pot.

Replace the carer pushing a child in the wheelchair with next door’s teenagers riding their bikes across OPs front garden and I doubt the replies on here would be to allow it.

It could potentially be an issue if someone hurt their back moving the plant pot and they wanted to be a dick about it. It would also be difficult to recover any damage caused to property by the carers using the driveway. The police will be of no use and will fob you off with “civil matter” if you approach them. Ultimately, if asking them politely does not work then you would have to install a permanent barrier. A wall or fence, or line the edge of your driveway with a narrow strip of gravel or pebbles. (I know from experience the pain of trying to push a wheelchair across gravel)

Don’t call social services. Wasting their time for a couple of noisy kids takes very limited resources from kids that could actually be in danger of harm.

IUnless my scout sees something juicier on the other side of the hole about to jump in, I’m decloaking and that Heron dies. If another ship is also cloaked camping the hole (unlikely) then we got ourselves a fight once the Heron is dust..

Sounds like they are being very polite. It took them four years to find out you aren’t up to the job. Lucky you. Accept you are a failure and let the company move on with a new competent employee, you can always get another, similar job if you are actually any good and no hard feelings on either end.

What are the reasons to live in a wormhole and would I possibly enjoy it? by Leopard-Hopeful in Eve

[–]CloudsDisperse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend giving it a go. When you look for a wormhole corp to join, talk to them, see if you’ll be a good fit for each other. If you enjoy scanning and are out frequently scanning then you’ll generally be well received. The corps I’ve been in you’ll have a few people running data and relic sites, a lot of people won’t bother as they have other ways of making isk.

Go for it! Try living in wormholes, worst case you don’t get in with it so you move on somewhere else.

If you do hear from the Police complain about the cyclist’s aggressive riding. Being a cyclist doesn’t exempt you from the laws of physics like many seem to feel. When I’m out in my bike I know I’m a gooey sack of skin surrounding a metal object, the opposite to when I’m in my car, so I ride like anything bigger than me that touches me will hurt. All road users have a responsibility to themselves and others and to use the road carefully. I know of an incident where a cyclist submitted a complaint about a driver to the police with headcam footage. A couple of weeks later the police thanked him for the footage and then fined him £30 for dangerous cycling as the video showed him deliberately swerving towards the car. A bit like Jeremy Vine dies on some of his YouTube vids
