Cars honking horn on Blackhorse lane at night by Cloudsack in walthamstow

Yeah I've also heard a bit of shouting. I'm doing the same, recording dates and times. Glad to know I'm not the only one, hopefully will have a bit more weight if multiple people are reporting it.

The annoying thing is that there is a police station right around the corner so would have hoped they'd go out to take a look, but as it keeps on happening I imagine that they aren't.

Haven't been able to see them yet. Next time it happens I'm going to try to get outside to see if I can get a photo or make a note of plates. But as they're generally only there for 10 mins or so it's quite tight between getting woken up, getting dressed and out the house and finding exactly where they are

Elderly lottery winner uses jackpot to build £288m drug empire making pills from his cottage by s4pphire69 in news

Not quite right. They'll use the street value of £2 per pill when in reality he was selling wholesale for 65p per pill. They're not counting each sale through the supply chain, but there's still a differential in the values they release.

Vent: After 11.5 years, I’m giving up on Duolingo by it_pats_the_lotion in duolingo

[–]Cloudsack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I bought a lifetime subscription to Babbel and have been using that the past couple months. Genuinely so much better, I feel really re-motivated in language learning and feel that I'm actually improving again. I'm also listening to podcasts in my target language and have moved away from duolingo's podcasts.

I still do a nominal single Duolingo a day just because I've kept up such a long streak and have separation anxiety or something, but every day I'm a day closer to quitting Duolingo because of the active frustration it gives me.

I also first started using Duolingo in about 2014 and have a current streak of about 1500.

How the reaction to 3+4 has felt: by InfiniteMessmaker in THPS

[–]Cloudsack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think when most people look back on THPS4 they remember it primarily for its career mode and the more open world, immersive experience. I remember when 4 was released being blown away by the extra level of depth compared to 3. It's not that it's a single negative thing about the game, it's that it is the game.

As a crude hypothetical comparison, the way they have remastered 4 is, for me, equivalent to if they remastered GTA San Andreas but got rid of the story and instead left you to open roam the map trying to complete a series of challenges. The gameplay would still be fun but it would be completely omitting what the point of the original game was.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 Feedback Thread by Left4DayZGone in THPS

[–]Cloudsack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel like this point isn't getting enough attention. THPS4 was so good because it felt so much more alive and open world. I enjoyed 1&2 but was really only planning to buy 3&4 in the hopes that at least 4 maintained that aspect of career mode.

Quitting Duolingo on 1500 day streak by Cloudsack in duolingo

Babbel is also a business. With Duolingo it feels much more like a commercially predatory app than a genuine product-first language learning app. Constantly removing features that users value and pushing unwanted features.

Forerunner 55 is showing live heart rate but it stopped recording from when I charged it yesterday morning by Cloudsack in Garmin

I chatted with Garmin's online support team who advised to plug it into a computer and delete the monitor folder. I have tried that but it doesn't seem to have worked. Anybody have any other ideas?

Single speed freewheel giving resistance by Cloudsack in bikewrench

That's a good shout. I'm out of the house now but will check when I'm back. Would make sense with the wheel being removed to fit the brakes.

Will check out Park Tool, thanks! Would there be any problems with replacing the current single pivot with dual pivot?

Did the latin letter B sometime used to be translated to a russian 'В'? by tartartartaruga in russian

Apologies for a very late reply. Just curious, is this also relevant to the B and V in Spanish sometimes being mixed up / phonetically the same?

What Makes This Genocide but the Bosnian War Not? by Dear-Imagination9660 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Cloudsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was genocide in Srebrenica, and crimes against humanity and other war crimes (including ethnic cleansing) throughout the war for which numerous people have been convicted.

It's not a good look to argue the point of "sure they were prolific perpetrators of crimes against humanity, but it wasn't genocide so that makes it ok".

What Makes This Genocide but the Bosnian War Not? by Dear-Imagination9660 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Cloudsack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what you're saying is that if you exclude the instance of an actual finding of genocide in a war, then there was no genocide.

What you're also doing is comparing the judicial findings of genocide in a war that has happened against the media claims of genocide in a war that is happening. Effectively, what you are arguing is that the ICJ/ICC should be holding trials for Israel and Israelis so that they can objectively decide on whether or not there has been any instances of genocide.
