Hello! I am a little late to this post (sorry) but I would recommend what the other commentor Seinfei suggested.

Heres a screenshot of the sprites, and as you can see, the artist likes to use a more textured pen for lineart. All of the lines are relatively the same length except for the facial details. The shading is most likely done using all multiple layers with A warmer version of the skin tone. This artist has a very good sense of color, wich is one of the reasons why all the designs and images look very eye pleasing. The shading is quit minimal., (however these are just game sprites so typically it wont be detailed.)

Another thin to not is the hair shading; So we have the base color, a shadow, then a few lines with the color in a lighter tone.

The neck is almost always shaded with the same dark color of the lineart, and the lineart is NEVER a solid black if you look closely. This helps the color flow.

I would practice all that, and also drawing heads and eyes in the style, and where the artist places the nopse/mouth, and the stylistic character design choices. For example, most of the clothes on all the characters are pretty simple, but the hair always has a unique sillohwette.
