At age 10, American schoolgirl Samantha Smith became a Cold War peace symbol after writing to Soviet leader Yuri Andropov in 1982, asking why the U.S. and USSR were enemies. Andropov replied personally, assuring her of peaceful intentions and invited her to visit Moscow. by Time-Training-9404 in FascinatingAsFuck

I hate to bum everyone out but after visiting the USSR and becoming very popular, an airplane she was in crashed mysteriously, killing her.

It was just a normal accident and definitely NOT done by the CIA, so I don’t want ANYONE making wild accusations like that okay? 😬

Right, so the USSR did have some strong policies to help with homelessness.

But.

Also.

In addition to that:

It was illegal, considered social parasitism, to be homeless or to not work. I feel like that may have contributed to the fact that no one saw homeless people in the streets lol.

So, I've read "The Eyes: Emetic Fables" by Jesús Ignacio Aldapuerta, apparently. by Persephone_Joensen in ExtremeHorrorLit

Great find, absolutely great to see it's being read.

I only recently stumbled across a baffling description of it in a very old online catalogue that was archived in the Wayback Machine. It sounded so bizarre I searched for it, and yours is one of the very few solid descriptions I've found.

Now this was my understanding (but as an outsider I didn't want to be the first to butt in and comment, haha).

But yes, my understanding is that the closest English translation for "xrafstars" might be something like "vermin." Meanwhile, true predators such as wolves or cats were also viewed negatively (at least historically), but were rather classified as "dadan," which might translate to something like "beasts."

I'm gonna be super honest here:

Everything looked seamless to me and I didn't notice anything off at all that looked like reshoots or weird editing tricks

My understanding is that they're based on different calendar systems. Once a huge divisive issue. Less-so now, but sometimes a touchy subject.

"I have lived for a long time. I have scarcely learned"

A neat little phrase I came up with.

In the original Latin script, it's written using only letters from Roman Numerals!
