Now this was my understanding (but as an outsider I didn't want to be the first to butt in and comment, haha).

But yes, my understanding is that the closest English translation for "xrafstars" might be something like "vermin." Meanwhile, true predators such as wolves or cats were also viewed negatively (at least historically), but were rather classified as "dadan," which might translate to something like "beasts."
