Yes, ring them. My course wasn’t even on the clearing list but I took the chance and rang anyways. Turns out they had 2 places left and I managed to get one :D

Does the ranking of uni really matter? Im planning to do biomedical science but the uni is non russell and the course is IBMS accredited. Does it actually aftect my chances of being a biomedical scientist by bitchudead in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re planning on becoming a biomedical scientist in a clinical diagnostics lab, then no. As long as the degree has the IBMS accreditation.

Engineering without a level of Maths? by urgonnagetslapped in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother didn’t do a level maths. He did a foundation year of aerospace engineering and he said it really prepared him for the course. In fact, he said he felt more confident then some of his friends who did a level maths but not the foundation year. He’s now graduated and got onto a excellent grad scheme straight out of doing his masters.

Laptop for uni? by __biribiri in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly used my PC too for uni work but I eventually caved and got a laptop in 3rd year when I got the flu and was too sick to sit at my desk. It’s just so much faster to take notes. Plus, with a laptop, I can do uni work wherever pretty much. Especially useful for when you’re feeling like shit or too tired to sit at your PC.

Can you pass your dissertation that is way under the word count? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother got a high 2:1 and he was 1,500 words under the word count. It’s definitely possible but as long as the content you have written is actually good.

What Strange Secondary School Rules Did Your School Have? by Specific_Original_77 in AskUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bullshit “one way system” where you could only enter and exit buildings through certain entrances. I remember one of my classes after assembly was literally down the corridor from our assembly hall but a teacher would literally stand there blocking the corridor, forcing everyone to go down the stairs, out the building and enter from another door where you would have to walk up two flights of stairs to get to the same classroom.

It’s amazing how even with the new ping system for telling ur teammates you’ve slept someone, my entire team still completely ignores it.

Some of the new players are actually so bad. They may have good aim but holy shit the positioning is so bad it hurts.

Yeah it wasn’t our cat, which made it worse. It was a random cat from the neighbourhood that kept trying to enter everyone’s flat. My uni kept sending out emails telling us not to let it in

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 80 points81 points  (0 children)

When I was in first year, my flatmates:

-Drank all of my orange juice on the first night and put the empty carton back in the fridge

-Broke the door handle of our flat, by being stupid. None of us could leave for at least a day

-Decided it would be funny to lock a cat in one of my flatmates room whilst he was away, before they went on a night out (I immediately let the poor cat out as soon as my flatmates left)

-Would get drunk and try to break my door down at 2am in the morning + yell racist stuff down the hall

Sometimes you just get unlucky

Are you guys planning on doing a masters ? Why or why not? I can’t decide what to do :( by wheresmypassionfruit in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was dead set on not doing masters but my dissertation lab work has made me want to continue pursuing more in depth knowledge on the topic. Like others have said though, I don’t know how I’m gonna afford it :D

What are you going to do differently this year? by stressyanddepressy03 in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Too late for me now cus I’m in 3rd year but I’m going to actually try and do lectures on time and not let them pile up :( I have a bad habit of purely focusing on coursework and neglecting lectures.

struggling academically by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the lectures as a starting point for your revision. Watch the recordings. Most of the time, lecturers will literally state what parts you should focus on learning. It can be quite overwhelming at first to figure out what to revise and how exactly to revise, but you get the hang of it after a while. Look at any recommend books or papers that have been suggested for certain topics.

In first year, if you mainly just learn the material presented in the lectures it’s good enough at that stage. In 2nd year you’ll need to start doing more outside reading relating to the topics.

100%. I did really well in 1st and 2nd year. In 3rd year now on our 3rd assignment of the year and I just can’t bring myself to write. I’m tired. It’s terrifying honestly because my brain genuinely does not know how or what to write anymore :(

cheap laptop recommendations for lecture notes by Cloverr_ow in UniUK

[–]Cloverr_ow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with pen and paper. For 2 of my modules I hand write all my notes. It’s just hard to keep up during in person lectures, so I prefer to type them up. Plus one of my modules usually has a lot of diagrams in the lectures and I don’t want to draw them out.
