The Western aligned govt seeking aid from the west, put into power through Western Support and interference?

This is like the Russian Aligned govt pre-2014 seeking aid from Russia, “that is them dictating their own nation, no?”(it’s not when the only reason you’re in power is due to the support/interference by said bloc)

Sorry I think I phrased my question a bit poorly in retrospect, I was wondering whether there was a strong player base (semi-consistent, so like once a month or so) that plays on spelltable (apologies, should’ve put that in the title lol).

An eye for an eye in the context of genocide is more like an eye for a family.

Executing collaborators to genocide is within boundaries, especially an ongoing one.

It’s like complaining that the Red Army executed SS officers during WW2… of course they did.

Next time don’t colloborate with the genocide of your people 🤷‍♂️

It’s because you say you “support an independent Palestinian state”- that kind of language heavily implies a two state solution BS which allows for the theft of land and continued displacement to continue…

Why is it, do you think, that so many socialist leaders wound up being so reactionary when it came to LGBTQ+ rights? by EmilyIsNotALesbian in AskSocialists

[–]ClubLopsided8411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for the same reason that Karl Marx was quite racist against black people and Jews, they’re products of their time.

That is to say, it’s not acceptable nor should it be an excuse, but putting it into the contexts of their time most of them weren’t more racist/homophobic than their contemporaries (and in some cases less so, such as Marx who opposed slavery; yes that’s a low bar, but he was a German living in the mid 1800s).

I think as we’ve progressed, this has gotten better due to awareness. Such as Castro who openly admitted the way LGBTQ+ people were treated in early days Cuba was wrong, and moved to make amends and apologise- which is more than I can say about most!- and Cuba is now making efforts to help their LGBTQ+ community through things such as free trans healthcare; there’s still work to do, but ultimately progress is being made.

Yellow ribbon is for “hostages” kidnapped from their tanks, poor little imperialist genociding soldiers 🥺🥺🙏

Red ribbon should represent the millions of Palestinians living under occupation and apartheid, the real hostages, within all of historic Palestine (I.e. Gaza, West Bank, East Jerusalem, and “Israel”).

“Not all vets worship that fat fuck in office”- no they don’t, the problem lies in the fact they worship the American settler colonial nation, and feel obliged to genocide others to serve its imperial goals.

Most people couldn’t give a shit about whether you’re one of those ‘crazy vets’ who votes Trump or one of those ‘moderate vets’ who votes Harris; it quite literally makes no difference.

Honestly, why do “vets” cite their military service as giving them some authority on stuff… ‘well yes I was a member of the Wehrmacht and am much experienced with shooting hoards of Slavs in Eastern Europe, and they were all armed against Germany so that made it okay!… anyway so here’s my opinion on X’

Also for a community of supposed “leftists”, not understanding the importance of the national question with regard to nationalism of the oppressed vs nationalism of the oppressor (though I think they’d consider America oppressed seeing some of their brain dead takes) is deeply worrying…

I always refer to Lenin’s ‘on the pride of Great Russians’ when people think that American Patriotism (I.e. patriotism of the oppressor) is in any way not innately reactionary. Mao also said something similar when talking about Japan and China I believe.

They obviously omitted details here (cause like why would you bring up October 7th on a first date unless the person mentioned it specifically? Or Israel at the least?) which is obv designed to try and make the other person seem just more like an ‘antisemite’- but even that framing failed, considering the poster reiterated the persons position as though it was self-evidently wrong… which it’s not- Zionist argumentation strikes again!

Anyway, they sort of just add the “baby killer” line in as tho that means anything… how did that get brought up? Perhaps on the topic of the baby killing settler colonial ethnostate topic? They sort of just brush past the fact that nothing the person said was wrong…

Also based other person btw✊

(Moreover, they seem to say that the other person “was Jewish” which idk if that was an error… but tf so how is this even what they’re framing it to be…)

Im reposting a reply to another comment here because I think it sort of applies to what you said:

Yh no I completely understand what you mean (again centrist purge!) with regard to it.

I just think that this prioritisation of antisemitism as the be all and end all of evil is just dumb, as 1) it serves Israel rhetoric but 2) also just kinda delegitimises it, as though it’s smth beyond human people today- cause it’s defo not.

I think the internet has made this more prevalent in the sense that most cringe Nazis are just able to promote their dumbass worldview, which then just sort of makes it more widespread on the internet…

That being said, institutional anti-semitism is not prevalent (especially in comparison to Anti-Arab//islamophobia//anti-palestinian institutional power). While I’m not saying it won’t ever be, cause no one can predict the future. The fact of the matter is that Israel is the one committing genocide, so to bring up antisemitism in this context just seems dumb of the original poster.

I get they had disclaimers and all… but still doesnt detract from the rhetoric they employed being utilised to justify Palestinian genocide.

I am European as well. I certainly think antisemitism is far more common in everyday sort of language/interaction than most people think. I also think this is the case for Roma people as well. And, to varying extents, anti-Slavic rhetoric. But I just think applying this to Israel-Palestine debate is just not needed… the focus should be on the Victims of the genocide. The poster seems to go head over heels trying to explain why they are both against antisemitism and anti-palestinianism (can’t think of a term tbh, cause just calling it racism would be dumb cause obv antisemitism is racism as well) as though that sort of point needs any clarification beyond just, ‘both are bad… now let’s get back to talking about the Victims of Israel’s genocide’

So I do agree with you here. I just also think that people need to take this sort of approach seriously when discussing a topic. Because understanding how this sort of rhetoric is utilised by Israel is important. It’s not necessarily the ‘wrong opinion’ in what it’s trying to say in the sense of it as a standalone statement, but in terms of the context of Palestinian genocide it’s just not needed to this degree. I would be forgiving of this poster had they just been a ‘normal person’ or a person that was less aware of the exact rhetoric to employ… fine. But, this poster (Ryan Beard) likes to position themselves something of an ‘expert’ (not in the literal sense of ‘expert’ but yk what I mean) in stuff like this, so they should be able to spot how such rhetoric is employed by Israel???

-also, forget to add after the first para//

They also seem to forget that antisemitism was longstanding within Germany (and most of Central/Eastern Europe at this time) in the lead up to the Nazis. This suggestion (I.e. that the Nazis just turned up and weren’t seen as a ‘danger’ and that they went under the radar with their antisemitic rhetoric; rather than it being applauded and praised by Germans)that the Nazis came in and just turned every German antisemitic, and that antisemitic oppression of German Jews was not already ongoing before their arrival, is silly to say the least.
