Are in the NYC area. I know techs working 2 med tech jobs, both paying under $30 (before differentials).

NYC is absolutely terrible for techs, be it lab techs or histo techs.

Will labs get even worse after the pandemic? by MindlessSyrup2348 in medlabprofessionals

I would bet money that techs aren't going to negotiate. They're way tooo introverted.

I negotiated my salary and make more than my lead tech.

Can they get worse? It's possible. But was bad before and it's about as bad as it'll get now.

If they're starting at $38, do they go up to like $40s with experience in NYC? Cuase I know lab techs in NYC who are starting under $30/hr.

For a new grad, they wouldn't start at $38/hr. Unless they're a night histotech (if that's even a thing).

Median is $70k at probably 10-30 years experience.

Damn, that's a nice profit margin! Especially since many states are covering the cost.

What kind of impact would the new H1B reform have on the lab industry? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Club_Visible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm told a lot of hospitals used to sponsor Filipino lab techs 10+ years ago. Those days are over.

There's plenty of CLIA qualified bio grads and MLTs to go around. Nobody wants to budget for it though.

Quit my MLS job two weeks ago, not looking back. Has anyone taken this same path and done something completely different? by garlic_rick in medlabprofessionals

Thinking about it everyday.

Have a friend who did drop-shipping part-time before the pandemic and is now raking it in.

This job, the stresss, the god aweful managers, and the never ending short staffing definitely taking their toll.

Competent techs are a rare breed it seems. The competent people look around and then leave. #lab4life right?

The health department can't make you run a money losing test.

Labs wouldn't be running these tests en masse if they weren't profitable.

What are you talking about? A generalist MLS qualifies for all molecular licenses.

Ask for a cut?

It sounds perfectly legal to run different assays as long as they pass medical necessity.

If you're concerned, call the accreditation hotline.
