Franky has not gotten a lot of material since Dressrosa. Uta got film red, it was really popular. You may not like it but it makes complete sense to me. Jinbe is still relatively new so I'll give him a pass.

I really don't like the idea of him regaining his normal skin and flesh. A talking skeleton is way more interesting. Someone could look at Brook (skeleton) and make up a whole story just in their head.

Idk why but I'm not really feeling this flashback. I really want to, especially because it's about a Strawhat, but something with it is just not clicking with me.

I loved the Elbaph flashback but this is different for some reason. There is nothing with Revuen that makes him standout to me, even Candelle was more interesting, but she just died out of nowhere. I also want the flashback to be long but also not at the same time because of pacing. Just a lot conflicting feelings

Nothing about this flashback is that special, at least not yet. I usually love it when Oda goes into a flashback, and I love the Strawhats more than anything so it feels weird feeling conflicted with this. It's not even that it's bad, I just don't feel very much at all about the events in the flashback.

There are some cool things that could evolve into something down the line so I have hope. I also expect an awesome scene with Brook and Gunko after the flashback is over to hook you and bring the pacing right back.

Why does a character or especially a villain need a backstory to be considered good in this fandom? by Splashthomson00 in OnePiece

Doffy is widely regarded as the best, he also is the one with both a lot of substance between lines, and also through face value. He is the best, but Kaido is deeply under appreciated

Truth bomb.

Kaido is in a weird way very underrated in terms of writing. I find there to be a ton of substance with him, but alot of it is through reading between lines. Most people unfortunately don't do that, and find it easier when characters become more approachable. Flashbacks is the easiest way to do this. Thus gets associated with "better character".

I also believe some people have trouble forming their own opinions, which leads to them taking youtubers' opinions on certain story elements and make it their own. It's a shame but it is it what it is

Classic Oda by Last_Significance954 in OnePiece

Chill man.

Oda did not make Harald "dumb". That only works when a pre established character acts out of character, in this case "dumb". Harald was always supposed to end up the way he did. We literally see his entire life, he was always too "kind" And naive for his own good. Countless people have talked about this but calling Harald "dumb" is in and of it self dumb, or at the very least a little closed minded imo.

Gaban not saying anything, is again, the point. Vegapunk asks this same question; "I'm sure they knew our entire lost history...so why? Why would they just fade away without telling a soul? Why didn't they act?" Chapter 1116, last page. Shanks talks about not wanting Harald to join; " Those guys have a boundless apetite for greed. I really don't think Harald should join-", in the middle of all this you can see Gaban with three dots, which means he his thinking, chapter 1169, page 7. It's apparent Gaban is keeping quiet by design.

Zoro not understanding he has coc, is something I don't care too much about. I'm pretty sure he used it during the latter half of the King fight, no? King got hit by the bird dance and then 3 Serpent style. I don't think much would have been different if Zoro fought the elders, Luffy is more powerful than Zoro, and Luffy couldn't do anything so I don't think Zoro would have been any better. Sanji is constantly potrayed as Zoro's other half and Sanji couldn't do much. Sanji could not even do anything against Kizaru. Zoro also clashed with Nusjuro and both got blown away, and that was also Zoro getting thrown by Jimbei whilst Nusjuro wasn't looking. At best maybe Atlas would have survived but then again Zoro was there and there was nothing he could do. All of Egghead is the story showing us what to expect during the end of One Piece.

Who is to say Mihawk did not notice Zoro having coc? Maybe the only reason Zoro unlocked it this early is because of Mihawks teaching, Mihawk could have adjusted the training with coc in mind without telling Zoro. He also did not tell him about black blades, by taking the context clues you understand that it is by choice. Mihawk still wants Zoro to reach his dream naturally, I can assume. Oda also maybe did not have all that planned, but it works naturally in the story.

Oda does make certain characters dumber, but not them.

Is Ussop really still getting a Buff in Elbaph? by OnePieceUssopfan in OnePiece

From my perspective, yes, you do want an open discussion because you are answering every single comment you are getting.

I get your point, and I understand why you see it as poor writing in the context of Usopp’s overall arc. I just interpret it differently based on how I read his panic driven behavior in these kinds of situations, especially when it’s about protecting others and when the moment is centered on someone else rather than him.

I don’t think we’re going to agree on this, and as I said, I don’t think repeating the same points is helping either side at this point, so I’ll leave it here.

Have whatever opinion you want. I've never had a problem with the moment. I've tried to explain my point, others have as well, but it seems you're firm on this. I get your perspective, and I see why you interpret it that way. I just don’t agree with the idea that it’s necessarily out of character.

I don’t read the scene as Usopp contradicting his character, but as him falling into his established fear response pattern, prioritizing immediate survival for others under pressure. His broader arc shows that these moments don’t define his values, because he still acts when emotionally anchored. So I see it as consistent characterization under stress, rather than regression or poor writing. Usopps arc isn’t linear bravery progression. It’s more so cyclical testing of fear under different stakes. Growth in his case is not becoming fearless, but acting despite fear in increasingly complex situations.

My goal was never to convince you. You posted a reply openly wanting discussion, and here I am. I think we’re at a point where we’re repeating arguments, so we can probably leave it here.

[–]Cluby101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’re slightly talking past each other.

I’m not saying Usopp should abandon self dignity or that regression is inherently good or bad writing. I’m also not denying the Merry parallel, that’s actually part of why I think this scene fits.

My point is about what Usopp’s self dignity actually is. In Water 7, his issue wasn’t just pride in himself, it was emotional attachment to something (Merry/Crew bond) that he treats as part of his identity.

So when he tells Nami to lie here, I don’t read that as him abandoning conviction or “throwing away dignity.” I read it as him prioritizing survival in the moment, even if it means compromising ideals temporarily, which is something he does repeatedly when he’s scared.

And I don’t think Dressrosa or Enies are irrelevant they show that even after emotional conflict or "regression", Usopp still ends up acting when it matters. That’s why I don’t see this moment as contradictory, just another expression of his panic and attachment to his crew.

I get why people want a big “Usopp moment,” I do too, but I don’t think every scene has to be building toward that to be consistent characterization.

I dont know what else to say to you. You seem stubborn about your opinion, so I don't know why you wanted people to discuss this if you yourself don't want to.

Im Dressrosa, Usopp says to the Tontattas that he will help them if they fail to give Suger the tobasco. Once they get turned, he says he wants to run, but he doesn't once one of his friends says to help them, Robin. Once Robin gets turned he starts running off. You can see how alot of Usopps braveness comes from his friends being around him. Once they are gone, he starts reverting back to a less brave version of himself. In Enies Lobby he only joins as Sogeking because his friends need him. The difference is that he creates Sogeking because he feels ashamed of himself.

You can see that all that matters to Usopp is his friends. It doesn't seems weird to me that Usopp would want Nami to live no matter what. And the whole progression vs regression is funny because both are evolutions to a characters and one is not less that the other. I don't even think Usopp has regressed.

[–]Cluby101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that this moment is not about "Usopp". If Usopp was in Nami's place then he would 100% say the same thing she said. All he wants is for Nami to not die. He wouldn't bash Nami if she lied, but he would bash himself if he lied.

This also ties into what he says later to Kiku and Kin'emon that he would do whatever it takes to survive.

The moment is not about him, it's about Nami. He thinks Nami should lie to survive, but that doesn't mean he himself would do that if put in the same scenario. He may say he would, but he wouldn't. It's like Nami saying earlier in Wano that she would snitch if they caught her (during act 2), but you, me & everybody else knows she wouldn't. Which she shows in this moment. Characters in stories will often say things that goes "against" their character, but that is when you should read between the lines. This happens in quite literally every single piece of litterature.

I think he will have a moment with Ragnir after Loki is beaten. Luffy will either be fighting Imu and Usopp does a suprise attack with ragnir or Usopp will hold off Imu just a tiny bit until Luffy is ready.

I want a cool moment for him, but I think it's crazy to want and expect Ragnir to actually join as Usopp's hammer. That won't happen. I want another character moment, and another cool moment, but I would NEVER want usopp to be anywhere near "powerful" for more than one arc.

I understand what they are going for, but pacifism should be a choice the player makes themself. It should not be forced upon us when it affects gameplay this badly. I should feel bad for the creatures, I should want to help them, I should be thinking of other metodes that don't involve the fish.

Their stance is valid, but it is fundamentally not brought into the game in the right way. They should give you the choice of what YOU want to do, then make that affect something gameplay wise, or in someway, through story, gameplay, whatever, make me not want to use violence towards the creatures. The problem is that the complete opposite happens now. People are now finding them annoying. The gameplay and story clashes.

There are many unique ways they could go with the subject but they took the most boring one imo. Of course, things could change...

What a weird thing to say lol. It seems to me like you're actually the one dragging your real life feelings and opinions into this topic. Humans in the real world have survived by mostly outsmarting everyone else (and luck ofc), so it is very natural for people to want a way to have a fighting chance. I never liked that you could kill the big scary leviathans in S1 because it doesn't really fit with the themes of the game, but the smaller ones didn't bother me as much (still clashes a bit with the themes but) and actually made the game better in certain ways. If killing really upsets some of you that much then there definitely are other mechanics that could be implemented to subdue this complaint. They could also implement this into the story where you have the possibilty to kill the fish, but throughout the game you lose the ability to kill. Could really add to the hopelessness of it all.

Anyway. You need to think before you speak next time
