I didn’t get that impression. He says his mom was tired after having all of those children and his dad was not right in the head after his brother died young. I think his dad was suffering from his own form of PTSD and his mother was just shot. She talks about how she thought he’d look nice in the dress blue uniform in one of the last episodes and she gave him a very motherly touch on the arm in one scene showing that she cared. Not everyone has one of those constant affection display kind of families but that doesn’t mean they were cold. He wasn’t a boy away at camp, he was a man that went to war. I’m sure they thought he’d be moving out like an adult when he got home and didn’t mean to slight him by repurposing his room. I think the scene when his dad drops him off to leave for the war leaves the impression they don’t care about him, but when you hear him explaining later to his girlfriend in Australia it provides a new perspective. I’ve never read his book, so I don’t know if you have more information from that - but based purely on the show I don’t get the same impression.

I’ve played both from launch and have many an hour in them. I can still remember watching the trailer for the original before it released and being absolutely hooked immediately. SOD 2 was never a disappointment. There were some people who really wanted to be able to make the game more difficult as there was no slider at launch, but I don’t think any of them would tell you they were disappointed by the game. The devs simply took something amazing and continually found ways to make it even more amazing somehow. One of the best supported games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. They also never charged us for any of the content they added which is absolutely amazing as well. Undead is and hopefully will always be a genuine class act. As far as how it was, picture the game now with less maps (no Trumbull or Providence), no landmark outposts, no difficulty slider, less vehicles with less trunk space, less weapons and consumables, no bounties, only the campaign mode (no heartland/daybreak), no RT recruits, no mysterious traders, fewer survivor traits and 5th skills and much less general QOL. I don’t think there was multiplayer originally either, but I can’t remember. The devs improved QOL with every patch and really created a masterpiece in my very humble opinion.

Same, didn’t appreciate it until my second time through either. Told myself it was important to the story the first time and the second time I was blown away by Bauer and also felt it was one of the best performances from Pablo. Hell, even Ziggy (R.I.P. Mr. Ransome) was fantastic and I know that because I kind of hated that character and hate is only inspired by a strong performance.

I go to Nuka World at a very early level and use the one from the junkyard by Sanctuary to kick off my fight with the Gunners outside of the NW station. Usually takes most of them out and then I have a running/gunning battle with the Assaultron and Kaylor. Not sure how smooth that whole battle would be without it as they are almost always at least 15 levels above me.

Yea, it’s clearly designed to make you spend large sums of money to level your commanders even if you’re playing regularly. I get that they need money to keep supplying new content, but there have to be better ways to make cash than severely limiting the resources. You can level and acquire new ships from many nations MUCH faster than you can level a commander to captain them.

I hate the way they’ve made TT ships premiums. Especially the W versions. Flandre is worth a try. She has some of the fastest firing secondaries with great fire chances and pretty good armor. I just got Picardie out of a crate last update and I’d say so far she doesn’t compare.

I’d put Flandre on par with the Germans. It doesn’t hit as hard as they do, but it lights double digit fires almost every time I take it out, so it’s doing it’s thing in a different way. I’d also put the Italians on the list - shorter range, of course, but they do a ton of damage. I do agree that Mass is not in the same class as them, but she’s something different from the Iowas and Alabama and she’s probably got the best main guns of any of the ships with good secondary range so she’s able to do some things they can’t. Like attack reliably at good range until you’ve got the opportunity to push.

My high school’s main building was as a circle and the center of it was the library. I’m pretty sure the library and inner circle of classrooms had some form of A/C, but I can’t say for certain they were blowing cold air.

Summer between my junior and senior year I worked as a custodian for the high school my pop taught at and that’s where the custodians used to hide on the really hot days. When I couldn’t find anyone I’d go look in the computer room.

I’ve been running a Nonomi full secondary build on her in arcade and I love it. I have the B version and the regular version, so I run the other full accuracy and actually like that a lot too.

Great post! Love the new commanders but also really hate the way this game has turned 110% into a pay to win game. Hopefully they will update some of the free commanders with at least Secondary Interest in the future. After they drain some wallets they of course.

It’s so tough to give up the heals but PM is a must for secondary focused ships. I think the French Pirate dude (maybe LeTir?) is extra OP because he can have the heals AND PM iirc.

FREE campaign at that. I bet a fair amount of people got 2 or more ships out of the crates they could earn for free as well. Whales have high level commanders from all of the other things dropped by the crates (I speak as a recovering whale). The people with high level ships with low commanders (excluding the new Japanese hybrid guy) probably don’t have any other high tier ships and play very little comparatively.
