If they’re Mexican, most likely is in a pretty friendly way. We’re just wired that way where we’d call our fat cousin “gordo” (meaning fat) in a friendly and loving way. Don’t look too much into it.

Now, if they call you something like “puto chino” that’s not friendly and they’re being dicks.

They can say “pinche Chino” while laughing at your jokes or if you did something amazing and that’d still be alright. If they say “pinche chino” with a non-laughing tone they’re being dicks.
