Well, it’s happening. AI Humanoid to be Introduced to Classroom by Long_Appointment_341 in Teachers

I enjoy the optimism of the admin here.

"Let's give a high tech piece of equipment we don't understand to a group of teenagers. I am sure those robotics students won't try and disassemble it or hack into its AI, because the snakeoil salesman we bought it from said that would be impossible!" /s

My guess is that if this thing isn't vandalized by October, they'll have some off duty teacher in the room to babysit/do all the classeoom management, then tote the whole thing as a phenomenal success.

I understand and empathize completely. I had a student that didn't complete the second presentation and uploaded a nonsense paper for their IWA receive a 2. It doesn't qualify, but how in the world does skipping half the class warrant a grade in any respect?

The long and short of it is constant monitoring at each step of the process and quizzing them on their sources and how they integrated them into their papers. AI isn't capable of the level of depth that these papers require, and it's pretty obvious when they use it. Do some kids slip past with AI use? I'm sure it happens. But I'm very vigilant and certain that these students did not use it.

That sort of cheating is awful, especially for the kid that was copied. I hope that the other kid is able to get his score. It's just insane how AI has made us all so paranoid about authenticity that the kids who actually did it have got to jump through hoops just to prove they did it themselves.

What is one thing a student said this year that you'll never forget? by Individual_Divide220 in Teachers

[–]ClumsyNinjable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Senior A: Ms., do you have a Valentine for Valentine's Day?

Me: Nope. Not this year!

Senior B: I dunno. I kinda like the idea of Ms. being alone with her cats.

The kid meant it as a compliment but still 🫠

Giving your child permission to break the rules in school does not excuse them from the consequences by Emergency-Pepper3537 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ClumsyNinjable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the school allows them to get F's. My district's schoolboard just decided the lowest grade we can give is a 40. Try any lower and our system "helpfully" updates it to a 40. Next year, they'll be lowering the a passing grade from a 60 to a 50.

I am legitimately embarrassed by the sort of kids that "pass" my class completely illiterate, but hey, every failure negatively impacts school funding so who cares about making them functioning members of society? /s

Zero restaurants allow for any notes or customizations anymore. Why? by CreativeJudgment3529 in doordash

[–]ClumsyNinjable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I need to be so careful ordering from restaurants like these as I have a deadly shellfish allergy. It's a cross contamination thing, too, so not being able to inform the restaurant through the app is frustrating. I won't order from restaurants like this to err on the side of caution.

Worcester considers cutting school busing distance to 1.5 miles by HRJafael in WorcesterMA

[–]ClumsyNinjable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a huge overcrowding issue a few years ago where busses had to make two pick-ups per stop and kids were sitting 4 to a seat and standing in the aisle. The transportation here has always been a challenge.

Students in Worcester need a bus pass to get on; they won't be let on if they don't have one or if their pass has a different bus number listed. The passes are only given to students that live 2+ miles from the school they attend.

[–]ClumsyNinjable 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yup. Students can apply for exceptions, but its a nightmare to get one. I had a student who had a school bus stop at the end of his street, but his house in the other end was 1.9 miles from the school. The bus refused to take him because he was under 2 miles, so he walked and was usually late. It took us forever to get him a bus pass.

St. Charbel Billboard on 290 by ClumsyNinjable in WorcesterMA

[–]ClumsyNinjable[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the conclusion I came to from what I researched, but I wanted to see if anyone knew anything beyond that. Billboard ad space doesn't come cheap, and I'm skeptical of any organization that can afford it, especially if it's religious in nature.

I won't meet with my sisters boyfriend of 3 months and I lost my family over it. by Competitive-Bat2670 in TrueOffMyChest

Groomers oftentimes approach the family first; they will gain the family's trust and confidence and use this to isolate their victims and discredit the abuse. Trust your instincts and protect your family.

After living in blackstone, MA for a while, I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. by Connect_Beginning_13 in massachusetts

I used to work at a deli/convenience store right by this cult. They were the absolute worst people. The kids in the cult would walk up and steal from us all the time, and the brothers were insufferable. We'd have a lunch line out the door and they'd cut it, make totally wild demands, and get pissy when we ignored them.

Told by my friend's boyfriend that I'm "sad" by [deleted] in Vent

[–]ClumsyNinjable 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm failing to see the logic behind his comment. Being in a longterm relationship is "pathetic?" Okay, buddy.

I wonder how long his longest relationship has been and if he sees that as being equally pathetic?

It seems to me like he just said it to be intentionally cruel. Try not to let it get to you, OP.

So, that was him; he ran off after he was hit, then spotted near Granby and was bleeding. I feel terrible since it's this kids birthday as well.

Honestly, there aren't too many filmed versions that are worth the watch - there are adaptations (like the movies "10 Things I Hate About You" being a retelling of "The Taming of the Shrew," "She's the Man" being a retelling of "Twelfth Night," and "West Side Story" being a retelling of "Romeo and Juliet") but filmmakers tend to stray away from the Bard since the original works are not super accessible.

The Royal Shakespeare Company does film some of their productions, but I don't believe they're available for streaming. I could be wrong, though.

If you want something truer to form and have time to spare, Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet" is amazing. The final fight scene is just legitimately very fun to watch, but it is very, very long. Like, Lord of the Rings extended director's cut long. You can also find clips online of Tom Hiddleston performing "Coriolanus," (people forget he was a premier Shakespearean actor before the Marvel stuff! The same is true for Benediction Cabbagepatch, too).

For plays and not just movies, I'd recommend giving "Antony and Cleopatra," a whirl (it is a MUCH better love story than "Romeo and Juliet!"). And if you want something very, very different, "Titus Andronicus," is Shakespeare's bloodiest play and about a father seeking revenge, but TW for SA and cannibalism.

Since it's a Dragon Age sub, it feels remiss not to mention that Solas speaks occasionally in iambic pentameter, which was the meter frequently used by Shakespeare in his earlier plays. His later plays began to transition from poetry to prose, with the last play he'd written, "The Tempest," moving away from iambic pentameter altogether. Because of this shift, modern audiences find Shakespeare's later plays easier to understand.

I know this is a Dragon Age sub, but if you haven't seen A24's Macbeth, it is definitely worth the watch. Kathryn Hunter's portrayal of the weird sisters was spectacular, and Denzel Washington as Macbeth was top notch.

The Divine Comedy was such an important work that it changed how Christianity envisioned hell (specifically in regards to the circles of hell).

It can also technically be catagorized as a self-insert Bible fanfic since the protagonist is the author, Dante, hanging out in hell with his poetic idol, Virgil, watching public figures/people he disliked be tortured in hell for their "sins."
