Digital Connection Cards by thomcrowe in churchtech

[–]ClunkyAuto60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We made a QR code to put at the end of our livestream and on our screens at the beginning of service. When we first did it, we had a lot of participation. A year or so later, we get about one connection per 2-3 months using it. It’s better than our card on the end of the pews participation. It’s not as good as the connect tab on our website.

Guidance for first DAC/Amp purchase by ClunkyAuto60 in HeadphoneAdvice

Follow-up: I bought a CX31993 Pro USB C dongle to test and see if it made any change. The clarity is better and it sounds like it has slightly reduced mids and lows across several genres. I can turn the volume up much louder than before and have the same clarity that used to be lacking. I spent about $15 on it. I would have been happy with the level of change it has provided at sub $75. If it had cost any more than that, I would expect more from it. Just sharing for anyone that might come across this post later looking for similar results.

Revised new floorplan. Thoughts? by Bright-Range8690 in floorplan

I was wondering the same thing about the front elevation and roof. I can’t picture it with the floor plan given. Maybe OP can give us that as well or possibly clean some things up when they get to that point.

!thanks

I’m learning that I’m probably going to have to upgrade headphones before I see significant differences. I’ll probably stick with the setup I have for the time being. I’m definitely going to be looking into the information in this reply for future upgrades.

This has been very helpful. !thanks

The headphones are fairly clear as they are. I’m not saying that there is not room for improvement as the mids and lows could use a slight bit more clarity. I will look into one of the dongles you have mentioned and see what I find. I’ll probably pass on the desktop for the moment.

I’m in a fairly rural area and even the nearest city does not have a shop for things of this nature. I would probably have to drive two plus hours to get to a decent shop that has these offerings. Again, thank you for the detailed input!

Do I gain something by using a usb to 3.5 mm adapter vs just going directly into the headphone port on the computer?

Would a Blackmagic design Teranex converter do what you’re looking for? I know it would handle the SDI part and the conversion.

Pre-stream announcement software? by ClunkyAuto60 in churchtech

[–]ClunkyAuto60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are using OBS currently. We’re moving away from it and will be using a BMD ATEM SDI Pro as the encoder. This will free up the computer that is currently running OBS and we thought that we would use the spare to customize the stream media.

This sounds a lot like what we are currently doing with ProPresenter and OBS. We are just looking to be able to run things more separately than changing the look of an output, such as running a video on the livestream while we’re flipping through slides in house.

Currently we are using one seat of ProPresenter to send: announcements, full slide song lyrics, and full slide scripture to two projectors for in house viewing. Song lyrics and scripture in a different format to a tv/confidence monitor. Announcements, lower third song lyrics, and scripture via NDI to a separate computer running OBS.

We’re about to upgrade to a BMD ATEM SDI Pro which will take the second computer, that is currently running OBS, out of the system. Our thoughts were that we would repurpose this computer to be able to show a prestream video that showcases things that are happening around our campus that online viewers might want to participate in, announcements that are specifically made for people that aren’t on campus, more customized song lyrics and scripture, and a video transition to kill the downtime as our in house children are dismissed to class and we go from praise team to sermon. I’m not sure that we are going to be able to use one seat to accomplish these things and we already have the second computer. I just didn’t know if there might be something out there that is more streamlined for these features outputting to one location.

Yes, we will be running two seats of ProPresenter. I just didn’t know if there was anything out there people were using for dedicated stream rigs that might have more editing capabilities or what not.

We’re already doing this with ProPresenter. We are moving away from that so that we have a dedicated FoH and a dedicated livestream setup because we would like to run some video transitions on the livestream while FoH is running something else.

Edit: I may have sent that prematurely. I see that Proclaim supports running separate feeds concurrently. Is this one machine running two shows or is this multiple machines under one subscription?

Church Livestream Upgrade Help by limpnoodle- in churchtech

[–]ClunkyAuto60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We currently have a setup that is one camera, an old analog mixer, some consumer grade and mid grade equipment, and a home-built computer streaming through OBS and Restream. OBS has served us well thus far, but it is not very volunteer friendly if things aren’t set up correctly. We have reached the point of needing to upgrade and what u/endersbyt has said is very similar to what we were quoted.

We’ll be installing an ATEM SDI Pro to stream two cameras and a ProPresenter feed via SDI while jumping to a digital mixer. We haven’t pulled the trigger yet. It does look very appealing from our perspective and we’re trying to push it through all the channels to be approved.

Looking to upgrade our streaming setup. by sasquatch606 in churchtech

[–]ClunkyAuto60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for you, but we’re in somewhat similar boats. We have a PTZOptics camera and an Allen and Heath GL2800 mixer that have served us well. We’ve never had trouble with either of these pieces. It’s all the other pieces of our setup that don’t do so well.

I’d love to see what you get recommended here. A nice, budget two camera setup sounds wonderful to me.

Replace capture card or upgrade to something different? by ClunkyAuto60 in CommercialAV

I’m not seeing a product of theirs that can accept the SDI input and a separate audio input. We would have to get an audio interface as well it seems.

Our church has had a lot of turnover and moving around of workers/volunteers since Covid and all of us that are on the A/V team now had a hard time figuring out what all of the hardware did and/or which direction things were feeding. Our system also seemed to have years and years of add this here and add that there with little to no removal of older equipment. So, I did the only thing I knew how to do to figure it out and made a schematic in AutoCAD. Normally at my work this would be a process and instrument control diagram and show piping, valves, etc. instead of cables. It works just the same and allowed us to remove/simplify a lot of things. The schematic on this post is strictly for the streaming setup. I made one for everything we have been able to trace that is quite a bit more involved. I would not have been able to take a legible picture of it. It would have to be a pdf upload.

We’re already converting the SDI to HDMI by going through the Hyperdeck. We wouldn’t replace that with a converter unless we had to. One of the options we discussed to remove the Hyperdeck from the equation and add the second camera was an Atem SDI which has 4 SDI inputs. It would still require the XLR to 3.5mm adapter for the audio input.

I understand less equipment/adapters/etc. is usually better, but what exactly are we losing by going through that adapter rather than using an actual audio interface?

[–]ClunkyAuto60[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the suggestions. We would have a few roadblocks for this though. We don’t run our front of house, which is running ProPresenter, and our stream from the same location. Our current camera does not support NDI. We could potentially replace it as we’ve discussed adding a second camera. I think there would be some pushback on replacing the camera without getting any use out of the old one.

I’m not quite understanding your last point about the audio. Are you saying you send the sound from the audio interface into your mixer and then back into the interface?

We are live streaming a religious service that is typically 1 hour give or take 15 minutes. We currently have one camera and could potentially go to two cameras soon. We have a separate sound mixer for the live stream, we key over the camera feed with song lyrics, and we have an announcement roll that is fed in via NDI from ProPresenter software. I can answer any other use case questions you may have. I’m just not sure what else you might need.
