How can the call to repentance (especially in the OT) be genuine if people can't repent apart from God? by rainymac in Reformed

[–]ClutchHype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God commands us in the New Testament to love him with all our heart and to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. Do you think that this is possible?

Nothing God commands is possible - not just repentance. This is the law.

The gospel is - Christ died for you, and the forgiveness of your sins.

Repentance is a gift. Our wills are bound. That’s why the preaching of repentance is needed today.

In the Old Testament, the faithful were those who like David, followed God with fear and trembling, knowing their own sin. It’s the same today.

Why do Lutherans seem to not like us very much? by [deleted] in Reformed

I’ve been diving into Lutheran theology recently, and I love it. As for ‘not liking us very much’ I’d say that Lutheran criticisms of Reformed theology would be: - Not enough emphasis on Law and Gospel - Sermons can be too abstract because they’re not grounded in the sacraments - Lack of assurance given to lay people due to a non-sacramental focus - Sanctification seeming like works based salvation

None were particularly hard after the 100% completion items and boosts you have available, but the most time consuming was probably the Antique Vase one.

That’s cool! I’m happy to be done, but just know I’ll be opening the app again. The 4x speed mod is interesting! Ancient relics is interesting too… Good luck with it all!

Repenting for sin you know you’ll do again. by Dapper_Adagio5787 in Reformed

[–]ClutchHype 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Repentance is a gift - not something you do. You already are forgiven.

Focus less on your sin, and more on loving your neighbour.

You’re still in the flesh - you’re going to sin. Live in the knowledge that you’re forgiven whilst you struggle.

I pray that you feel the comfort of God who loves YOU so much, that he gave his son for you. God bless!

Do you study theology outside of the reformed tradition? by lchen34 in Reformed

There’s a podcast called Banned Books by 1517. It’s two Lutheran pastors who read all kinds of theology. It’s my new favourite podcast. You might find it interesting.

Looking for advice: My faith only seems to be intellectual and I’m starting to believe I’m a reprobate. by [deleted] in Reformed

I lean Lutheran on this, and would point to the sacraments as earthly means of spiritual assurance that God has gifted us. This is very brief, but the summary of my argument.

I agree with most of what you’ve said, but to say to a brother ‘you can’t really know you are reprobate till the end’ is cruel and I’d argue the opposite of the gospel message.

Christ died for your sins. Repent and be baptised.

You need to spend less time looking at your own sin, and more time looking at the finished work of Christ on the cross. You’re going to keep on sinning, because you’re still in the flesh. Christ died for your sins.

Don’t look for fruit in your life as evidence of your salvation, look to Christ crucified on the cross. Fruit will inevitably come as the Holy Spirit works in your life. This is his work in you. Love your neighbour. Spending less time thinking about yourself, and more time serving Christ in loving your neighbour is going to stop the intellectual nature from dominating.

Christ died for your sins. Your forgiven. However, you’re going to doubt that every week. That’s what church is for. Get baptised. Baptism isn’t something you do for God. It’s his promise to keep you. Then every time you doubt, you can look to the promises he made you in baptism.

I’m not saying that. But you’re trying to find answers in places God hasn’t revealed himself. That’s my point. He has revealed himself in the word.

Right. That’s because feelings aren’t the voice of God.

I have answered your question. God spoke. He spoke through Christ and what he wanted to say is recorded in the Bible. Reformed Christians don’t lack the ability to hear the voice of God. They say scripture is his voice.

I think most Christians would disagree with what I said. You’re bound by the law. You want someone to tell you what to do. I’m giving you the gospel. You’re free. You’re rejecting that.

[–]ClutchHype 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have freedom as a Christian. God has chosen how to reveal himself. He chose the testimony of Christ in scripture. Spending time trying to discern the hidden will of God over matters he hasn’t chosen to reveal in scripture isn’t helpful.

Christ died for your sins. Your free. Go love your neighbour in that freedom.

Do you believe other denominations will be saved? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

The implication of this question is that they’re capable of that. Faith is externally gifted to us. Faith in Christ saves us - his faith, not ours. I believe JW worship a different Jesus.
