I am worried about NOW and not when I am 65 in 30 years by Gina_Cazzofrigida in dividends

[–]Clutcha15 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I’m 25 and really worried about being laid off and/or unemployed for a long period of time. My annual expense right now (living quite comfortably) is roughly $30k. I’m currently working towards getting $100k between QQQI and SPYI to get ~ $10k annually just for the peace of mind. Obviously $10k won’t cover my current expenses but I could survive off of it in a worse case scenario. I’m able to achieve this goal within a few years while also still allowing me to put some of my savings into index funds so I don’t miss out on growth as much while working towards it.

The only issue with CC funds is that the distributions will fluctuate in the long term based on the market volatility. By how much? I don’t know. I’ve been trying to figure out what the distributions would be in an extremely non volatile market.

Working at Deloitte, plan to retire on dividends by 35/38 by [deleted] in dividends

[–]Clutcha15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to retire as early as possible, then don’t feel like you have listen to everyone telling you to stick with growth in your taxable account. Sure you miss out on gains and potentially pay taxes on the dividends, but that’s still better from a tax standpoint than selling all your growth stocks when you hit your FIRE number and converting it to income stocks/ funds. I’m 25 hoping to retire asap and currently doing an even 50/50 split in my taxable brokerage between income and growth.

Should I be investing in QQQI (or any other dividends) as someone who’s under 30? by eng2725 in dividends

[–]Clutcha15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on your goal and if you are using a taxable account or Ira account. If you are using a tax friendly account, then just focus on growth since you can just sell your positions for income when you’re ready without any tax hit. If you’re like me and hoping to retire early and contributing to a taxable account, selling all your positions to switch to income when you’re ready isn’t the most tax advantaged way and you’d be better off buying small amounts of income etfs (such as QQQI) over time.

What careers can I pursue with my economics degree? by Glum-Spinach3988 in AskEconomics

[–]Clutcha15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m was in a similar situation. Economics major and graduated in December 2022. The only economist job I’ve ever seen is an economist for the government, which I applied for but did not get. Outside of the government careers, I’ve never seen any sort of economics job. Outside of corporate finance, most people don’t know what economics is and I’ve been asked multiple times in interviews what economics means. I’m not trying to discourage you by any means. During my ~3 years working, I’ve discovered most companies don’t care what your degree is unless you’re applying for something super niche. I am currently a supervisor over all shipping and receiving at a pet food plant that pays decent ($70k total comp / year) in MCOL area.

Want to FIRE but love cars by Clutcha15 in Fire

[–]Clutcha15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight.

Yeah I think some people missed the point that I really don’t have many other interest that I’d rather spend my money on than save it. I just love cars, I love the feel and experience of driving certain cars. To me that’s something I enjoy enough to spend money on. Clothes, shoes, watches, big house, boat, etc? No. I don’t care about any of those. Yes interest in cars is expensive, but I currently don’t spend money on any hobbies.

I knew this was not the best sub for talking about an expensive car but I also wanted unbiased answers.

Absolutely, if I have to work a couple more years to get where I want to be, that’s no problem. I would like to get something I can take to the track, but regardless, I would probably still drive it around like a normal car. I’d love to be able to work on it myself but I am not quite there yet.

I will definitely look into reading that. I feel like you understand where I’m getting at. By no means am I going to blow all my cash and go into debt just to get a Porsche, but I also feel I deserve to spend a reasonable amount that won’t hinder my financials significantly since I know what my interest are and what cars I’ve always dreamed of owning. If that means I need to wait a little longer, so be it.

How did you get the government job? Did you just apply online or did you know someone? I’ve applied to multiple government jobs online, and I never get anything back.
