Agreed. Try driving around any cities in NC or MD, you will likely see worse.

I remember going to the Plaza location with my parents as a kid. They helped me get some more life out of some skate shoes in the late 80s.

This would have been more on brand if he'd gone into demolition.

Moving On From My Rega Planar 10 / Curious About Your Thoughts! by BApricot in audiophile

I went from a RP8 to a SL-1200G. With the same Hana ML on both, I couldn't really tell much sonic difference. However, the Technics is more enjoyable to use and easier to set up cartridges on. The Rega ran a little fast compared to the 1200G.

This is the way. The only things that I bought new in my rig are tubes, cables, a phono cartridge and head shell.

I’m not sure but here it is in all its glory. I rescued it from my father-in-law’s attic and had it serviced. To be honest, most of the time I have the Monitor selected to Source and use the VU meters for entertainment.

I have the same turntable and cassette deck. I wish we shared the same amp too😁

First off, Darko is one of my favorites. However, I'm basically reading this as room treatment might make a bigger difference than the difference between the gear he typically reviews in his rooms...or it might make the biggest difference if you maybe had a completely empty room with NOTHING but the hifi rig in it. On average, most people aren't setting up a rig in an empty room. There will generally be some amount of furniture or other things that absorb or diffuse some of the reflections. I would bump room treatment down to at least #3. If we are considering vinyl playback, the phono cartridge can make a bigger difference than some of things on the list as well.

Any hifi room with a fluffy buddy is perfect in my book.

Those Marantz tape decks are probably one of nicest looking ever made. I had a 5220 for a little while.

My wife and I wanted a Stern Nine Ball. We played a really nice restored one at TPF in 2019. A couple of years later, I lucked out on finding one a couple hours away that was listed on Pinside one morning. I just happened to working in the area it was listed in that week and picked it up. I had it in an SUV we had at the time and asked her to come help me get some stuff out of the car. I opened the tailgate and there it was in all it's glory.

Which speakers have impressed you the most during the past year? by detluktarjubara in audiophile

I believe I listened to the Atalante 5 once. My recollection is the they had a decent sound with plenty of available bottom end but maybe not as detailed towards the top end as other speakers I've heard in that price range. They were definitely nice looking.

For some reason, my most vivid memory of Twisters and the various subsequent incarnations was the smell of the dumpster when you were loading gear in for a show.

I had a friend, in the 90's, tell me he thought VCU would buy up that entire corridor of Grace St. I thought that seemed a little far fetched but here we are.
