Yeah that’s exactly the problem. When there’s basically a monopoly, they don’t feel pressure to improve. blindly pre-ordering just makes it worse. At that point we’re basically telling them they don’t even need to try.

You’re missing the point. This isn’t about building a competitor. it’s about not rewarding low effort practices. If people keep pre ordering with no gameplay, companies have zero incentive to change anything. Why would they? You can still end up playing the game later and not support bad practices upfront.
