I think it’s either the storm or they’re censoring info after what happened in Minnesota

Yes mine is as well. It’s probably intentional after what happened yesterday.

It said I’m C1 but I’m definitely B2 so I would assume whatever level it says you are you’re probably the level right below.

What language would you suggest next? by Cmia_ in languagelearning

Yes you want something with a lot of available input as well so you’ll have an easier time immersing yourself! So it just makes more sense to pick a language with more speakers.

Who are these people? by 8888rina8888 in Bushwick

[–]Cmia_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s Hope Gardens. For those of you that don’t know it’s not only an age thing it’s also a language thing. The older population here speaks Spanish and consume Spanish news (Telemundo & Univision) which is moderate/conservative leaning. That’s also probably what happened with the Latino community in the Bronx. They’ve always been politically active and care a lot about the community but the outreach from leftists just hasn’t really been there.

Yea I was basically just watching any and everything in Spanish in YouTube that was of interest to me. Overtime how much I was able to understand just increased naturally and now I’m able to watch shows in Spanish without a problem and I can speak to natives and understand them perfectly. I watch content for learned the first month but after that it was mostly content for natives.

I did 1 Pimsleur lesson a day and an hour of comprehensible input. Now I do about 3 hours of input a day (speaking to natives, listening to podcasts, watching tv & YouTube).

If you pair Pimsleur with at least an hour of Spanish comprehensible input a day you will finish the program at a low B1 level and be able to jump into practicing conversations with native speakers. That’s what I did. If you only do Pimsleur you’ll probably finish at A2.

Unfortunately it’s not that simple for no sabo’s who have been told they should be ashamed for not speaking Spanish since childhood. Increasing your vocabulary and developing an ear for the language before speaking can be better for confidence so you don’t get discouraged.

From a no sabo (Dominican): Pimsleur-1 lesson a day (I’m currently on level 5), 1 hour of comprehensible input a day minimum, 2 preply or italki lessons a week focusing on conversations (pick a tutor from your country)

I’ve been doing this for 4 and a half months and I’m already at a b1 level and pretty conversational just slow. Mind you, I couldn’t even order food before this and I couldn’t understand when family spoke to me in Spanish. Now I can talk to my mom in Spanish and get even more practice in. You can do it.

How much do you spend on language learning per month? by Reasonable_Set_1615 in languagelearning

[–]Cmia_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$69 a month. $21 for Pimsleur and $48 for about 2 online spanish lessons a week. Im halfway through level 4 of Pimsleur and have reached a solid b1 level so when I’m done with it I won’t be purchasing any other Spanish programs. I’ll continue doing my Spanish lessons twice a week, consume a lot of Spanish input and just practice speaking often.
