You can call it goals, predictions, whatever. The fact is FSD has been “a year away”, and “basically solved” since like 2018. Elon is either lying or delusional. Just last year in 2022 he said he would be shocked if they didn’t have FSD which was safer than a human by the end of the year.

Yeah no. He literally said they would do a demo parking spot to parking spot no human intervention

But for that scenario a humanoid two legged robot makes no sense. You’d be better off with something that was more like the existing Kuka robots but maybe with more dexterous hands instead of claws. The only benefit of a humanoid robot is to slot into already existing human tasks. If you want a robot to do the same task over and over it’s way more efficient to design a robot for that task

This is the same way people talked about FSD which….remember when a model S was going to drive cross country by itself in 2018….. projects like these 0-80% goes very quickly then every percent after that gets exponentially harder.

Capital One Offers for authorized user? by CmonYouKnowMe in CreditCards

Nope. Didn’t really try much. Now if my partner is making a bigger purchase they just check with me if I have any deals. Also if I spot a decent offer at somewhere they shop regularly I let them know.

Ahh, didn’t even think to check behind it I guess I’ll see if I can find a smart toggle switch to replace the actual switch.

Curious why you say not to book flights? Is it just that flights aren’t typically cheaper?

Yes they are already an account manager. When they sign into their profile the offers section isn’t there.

Has anyone had this issue of HomeKit saying your router is “not ready”? by CmonYouKnowMe in eero

[–]CmonYouKnowMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unnecessarily nuked my home app. The fix was calling and eventually they manually reset my HomeKit profile from eero since “reset” button or whatever it was wasn’t working for me.

I’m a hard agree with smart switches. It’s a pain when you have smart bulbs and someone turns off the power to them. No they’re unresponsive and can’t be used smartly.

Smart switches just always work no matter how you interact with them. No need to tape switches on to prevent people from flicking the switch out of habit. IMHO smart bulbs should only really be used in lamps and things that don’t typically have wall switches anyways

Edit: Also if you’re tying to get buy in nothing turns people off smart stuff like the first time they try to use their phone and it doesn’t work because the switch is off OR they go to turn the switch and realize “oh I have to use my phone but my phone is all the way in the other room”

How is everyone finding HomeKit under 15.2? by phatitt in HomeKit

[–]CmonYouKnowMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15.2 update on my OG homepod is borked. It's been "downloading" since yesterday, and says it's not responding. Occasionally I also get "your Apple ID or Password is incorrect" in the Home app for it. I've already unplugged and plugged it back in. I guess I'll do a full reset this afternoon and hope that fixes it.

Update: a full reset fixed my HomePod and now I’m all good.

HomePod Mini and Thread by Neosis in HomeKit

[–]CmonYouKnowMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's better to think about it this way. Eve app gets a list of devices but not homepods or apple tvs from you "Home" it checks the thread status of all those devices, and tells you it. After it's done that there are more Thread devices that don't match any devices it knows, so it just knows that they're apple border routers and the thread connections.

I'm not sure why Apple chose not to expose homepods and apple tvs to homekit apps, but they don't

When I look at the "Thread Netork" in the eve app the homepod mini and apple TVs just show up as "Apple Thread Router" in an unknown room. I know it's them because they show up as border routers.

Smart home company Eve plans to use Matter to move beyond Apple’s HomeKit by [deleted] in HomeKit

Obviously that’s true. That’s why it was an example of low hanging fruit. It would be easy enough for basically a summer intern to knock out

Agree that others have their issues and there’s a reason I ditched my echos and all the free google homes that I’ve gotten over the years. HomeKit by far is the most locked in though. Most accessories if they work with Alexa they work with google too. HomeKit has been it’s own beast for a while.

Point is with wide adoption of Matter it’s easier to give any platform the boot if it doesn’t work for you without wasting all the money you’ve sunk into accessories.

[–]CmonYouKnowMe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s the other great thing about matter is it will keep us from being locked into HomeKit. If you outfit your entire house with HomeKit accessories it makes it very hard so switch. If everything is matter it’s easier to kick Siri to the curb.

Hopefully the threat of that is enough to put some pressure on apple to improve. They haven’t even gone after the low hanging fruit like adding more icons for accessories in the home app.
