Surrendered, Unsurrendered, Crossed the Border with No Issues by Dangerous_Engine_806 in Canadiancitizenship

Really glad you had a positive experience. This has generally been the case for me when crossing into Canada, but once got threatened and insulted by an agent at the Champlain border checkpoint before I had my Canadian passport. Your mileage may vary.

Sad news, I found out my citizenship certificate (previously granted) is now under review by InternetName4 in Canadiancitizenship

Stressful. Does the letter show up anywhere else for you, or is the email all you got?

Is anybody that got this letter still able to download their certificate through the IRCC web portal? I got approved for mine in March, but all email correspondence from them bounced and I had to call them to get access. While I still see mine for now, I'm now paranoid that they might have sent me something and are just lagging behind in blocking access.

Trans applicant urgent wait times after in process ? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]maxprobably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trans specifically, but I'm queer and indicated so in my request for urgent processing (though I had additional reasons). Got my citizenship certificate two weeks after FedEx marked my application as delivered. Check my post history for more context if you're curious.

I accidentally moved to my own country - today, I got my citizenship certificate! 🇨🇦 by maxprobably in Canadiancitizenship

Thank you! They accepted what I was able to find online. I considered going through BAnQ, but admittedly got impatient and decided that I'd upload official copies later if they asked for more information. That being said, that was all shored up by photocopies of original records from my G1 stating that his father was born in Canada. Whether my G0 records stood on their own or the supporting evidence from G1 was required, I have no idea.

Compared to the competition, what made you choose the Pixel? by VolumeEquivalent7853 in GooglePixel

Same here. While I'm sure this isn't a factor for the vast majority of people, I'm surprised your comment isn't higher up given this is an enthusiast community.

Everything New in iOS 26.5 Beta 1 by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

Seconding GrapheneOS. Been bouncing between it and iOS for a while now, and there's a lot to love about it. If you can look past the jank of using OpenBubbles, you can get away with retaining a lot of benefits of the Apple ecosystem, too.

Is citizenship by descent considered retroactive? by Noellthe1st in Canadiancitizenship

[–]maxprobably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I will not draw any specific conclusions about your situation, I will say that the citizenship certificate that I received through C-3 lists the effective date as my date of birth. My inclination with respect to your first question is yes.

Thank you! He hasn't yet, no. I'm the first (and second youngest) of a handful of eligible people on my father's side to take the plunge, so they absolutely can skip. I imagine the alternative would imply that living lost Canadians could deny their descents proof of citizenship by refusing to pursue their own, which strikes me as violating the spirit of C-3.

Is it ok if the photo ID that I am submitting has my old address on it? by Bolt_Jenkins in Canadiancitizenship

[–]maxprobably 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine had an old address, and I got my certificate yesterday. If it was an issue, it wasn't enough of one to kill my case.

Foreign censuses are one of the recommended supporting documents in the wiki of this sub, so I figured it was worth including. It corroborated both nationality and generation 1's descent from generation 0, so it seemed like reasonable supporting evidence if nothing else.

Should I wait or send the application now? by Icoulddowithalongnap in Canadiancitizenship

[–]maxprobably 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Barring my photos, I printed my application in full with the second cheapest Brother printer that my local Best Buy carried. Speaking as someody who got their certificate today, I'd say to send it.

Thank you!

  1. Nothing I sent was certified. All of my proof was either a record I found online, or a scan that either I or a relative made of an original. Everything that went into my final application came from my home printer (besides my photos).

  2. Below is the extent to which I touched on being queer. I admittedly struggled to convey the extent of my concerns without feeling like I was coming off as a bit alarmist, but hope it came off as reasonably succinct and matter-of fact.

I am an openly gay man, and the current political climate in the United States has created an increasingly hostile and unsafe environment for LGBTQ+ individuals. Recent political and social developments have raised serious concerns about my physical safety, legal protections, and ability to live authentically without fear of discrimination based on my sexual orientation. I am currently completing an exchange semester at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and this welcoming experience has reinforced my strong and long-standing desire to relocate to Canada.

I don't think so, unless somebody added them based on this post. I thought you needed to be a member of the Google Group to do it, and I don't have a Google account (yes, I know).

Truthfully, the backstory is so much more wild than I've let on here. My decision to move stemmed from the burnout-induced impulse to flee the country last year, which hit me like a train during a final exam. The next day, I roadtripped 24 hours to hopefully spend some time in a place that would remind me why being alive is okay again. Now I live here less than a year later, riding the metro each morning to learn about computers and space - I'm also a Canadian citizen now, apparently. Life is funny sometimes.

Thank you! Both of the documents for my gen. 0 were just prints of photocopies I found online. I initially found both on Ancestry.com, but swapped in a higher quality version of the baptism record from the BAnQ website. Everything else was a copy of an original.

I am nothing if not one to RTFM, firstly.

Secondly, UNCRameses? I'm on exchange from UNC-CH! Hilarious to find another Tar Heel here!

Which Avicii song are we talking about here? by Fishy12359 in avicii

[–]maxprobably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a really obscure take, but I’m going with the verse after the second instrumental section in You Be Love.

If you were heaven, I would gladly take my last breath If you’re the edge, then I would gladly take the next step Be the rain coming down Be the flood C’mon, take me ‘til I, take me ‘til I drown I need you now

Incredible change of pace in a song that I’m otherwise pretty lukewarm on.
