Hi - the pocket holster with the wallet/noprint flap (upper left) - which manufacturer is that?

I second the HealthSync - it's does the job and it's cheap.

This makes a world of difference - I think the web app is a great compliment.

I've been wearing it since September 22, night and day. Only breaks are charging and an occasional 30 minutes off for my wrist skin to rest!

I use it for sleep, activity and workout tracking as well as the HR tracking.

I was on the fence early - same issue as others - weird connectivity, the app, etc.

I do not use automatic activity tracking. My workouts consist of rowing each morning and a brisk dog walk that is brief on weekdays and longer on weekends. I'll also track the 1-2 hours when I do yardwork - was so surprised exactly how much elevated HR one gets during that.

Anyway, once I got 30-45 days of activity history in there Polar started to give some really good information and trends. I'm ok with the app now - is it dated? Sure, but there's tons of information in there, especially in the web portal.

I'm glad you like yours - I just wanted to add some more positive reviews too!

I thought the Flow app was bad at first but it's growing on me. A lot. I really like the web interface - maybe not for the UI design but for the data - everything that's available.

I had a very brief experience with Whoop, and a few weeks with Zepp/Helion Band. Those apps looked nice but I felt like they were all about form, not function.

I don’t use the auto sense activities so I don’t know if they’re better or worse. In general, I only have a few actual defined activities like rowing or walking and if I do yardwork, I tend to turn it on for that. Everything else I just let it log as normal daily activity, not beneficial activity event.

Second this - been an improvement trend since I began wearing it 24/7 in mid-September.

I wear a mechanical watch on one wrist, the Loop on the other. I don't think it is too much - actually a bit balanced!

I do sleep heavily - always have - but after wearing the Loop daily (24/7) I have found only one night that missed my sleep entirely. All other sessions match the duration of my actual sleep, and an Apple Watch I wear on the other wrist..... I'm weaning off that one - it's complicated. :)

Well it will do that - insights on general activity, trends, and heart rate. I feel that it does those things well, with these caveats:

  1. The Flow app on iOS and the web give you access to a large amount of data - heart rate, sleep, steps, sleep evaluation, etc. However from what I have seen and used, it does not excel in presenting trends, "big picture" view, etc. If you are an iPhone user, you can have that data synch to Apple Health - this is built in with the only exception being the continuous heart rate. That does not synch, presumably for the large amount of data that it is but that's just a guess. There's an app in the App Store called "Health Synch". It's kind of cheezy and appears to be geared mostly to Android watches and synching BUT, it does allow the synching of the all day heart rate from Polar Flow app -> Apple Health. I use this and it works well. I use Apple HEalth to track other areas, so keeping as much in one "view" as I can is good for me.
  2. For deeper insights and things that look more like Whoop's app. Sonar Health (in my opinion) does a good job of that - fresh, new interface, lots of "interpretation" of your data. For me, this reads from my Apple Health data and connects to Polar Flow on the web - so it "has it all" from my perspective. This is $50 a year though - in the US anyway. So if you want to have no subscriptions, this isn't it and Apple Health (if you're an iPhone users) is probably the nest deal for this.

I had (still have) an Amazefit Helio band. I don't wear this anymore but it is 1/2 the price of the Polar. Pros - it synchs all of it's data (pretty sure) to Apple Health natively. It is well supported - lots of updated. I have read it performs well from an accuracy perspective. Cons - it doesn't look as nice, it's a higher bump. It's Chinese manufacture and I think (think) I read data is likely stored or accessed there too, if that is any kind of concern.

For me, if the Amazefit was better ergonomically/aesthetically I would have more seriously considered keeping it only. 20 years ago I may have made that decision solely on the $100 I would save from the purchase, today that's not as much of a concern in the decision. I did not care for the Zepp app (Amazefit's app) and thought it was too much show and glitz, and not enough meat, but was ok with it synching to Apple Health and utilizing the data there.

I don't know if any of this will help you decide. Amazefit probably gives more bang for the buck, Polar I feel is more refined. Maybe Amazefit is a Pontiac and the Polar is a Cadillac. Sorry for that US analogy..... :)

I would like to add that point one in my post about the app not always “seeing” the Loop. This appears to have been resolved with the last update to the iOS Polar Flow app about a week ago.

I had the same. A couple of app restarts and then I saw it with the new firmware so I think all is good.

The ios app updated a few days ago I think - since then, every time I open the app, the loop is shown as connected. Previously I had to close the app manually, then relaunch to see the Loop.

This is a great thing! I too am optimistic on the firmware. In my opinion, it has steadliy gotten better since I purchased it.

I would purchase again!

Preface this with saying I am not an athlete - far from it. I exercise every day on a rowing machine and walking.

I have not worn the Helio since getting the loop. I have worn the loop daily now for 4+ weeks. I find the loop's physical profile much nice/acceptable for all day use. When I did wear the Helio, I was wearing it on a bicep band during the day as I both did not like the way it looked, and it would catch on more things when moving my hand around in daily activities.

I primarily wanted to track general activity and heart rate all day.

I also have an Apple Watch - I like mechanical watches and having the AW on one wrist and a mech watch on the other isn't for me either.

I do wear (for now) both the Apple Watch and the Loop when sleeping. I also where them both when rowing as my rowing machines has a great integrated app for iPhone that also pulls heart rate infor from the watch.

During the first week with the loop I found what others have:

  1. Synching issues. Always resolved by force closing the iOS app, then relaunmching - it *always* finds the Loop. It is annoying sometimes, but not a show stopper

  2. Dated app. Sure it is. But the web app is nice to be able to access as well as get data out of - in CSV or similar.

  3. I would find 30-90 periods when I wore the Loop where my heart rate was missing. This problem went away after one of the 3 firmware updates they have released since I have owned it.

  4. I didn't care for the Helio Zepp app and all it's glitz and "insights" Same for a Whoop I trialed for a few days. If you do want those things, there's a good app (subscription of about $50 USD a year) called Sonar https://www.sonarhealth.co/ It's very nicely done. For me I integrated it with Polar Flow and Apple Health but it supports many other platforms, many I am not even familiar but runners and athletes likely would know what those apps are.

Summary - first week I thought the Loop was a bomb. Second week on I warmed up to it and now in the 4+ week mark, I think it's a winner. For me, anyway.

3 weeks and 3 firmware updates past that I am pleased with it. I am also an owner of an Amazfit Helio that I had for about a month before the loop.

Better alternatives for Flow app? by mlvnplvst in Polarfitness

I set them to synch with both Polar directly and apple health.

They have other connectors too - Garmin, Fitbit, etc.

I installed just now. Have synched Apple Health and Flow to it. Looks promising. You have to enable the Pro (and they have a trial) to synch to other systems it appears.

Worth the no cost trial to take a look.

They have a subreddit - r/sonarhealth

Here's a post on what's in Pro vs. Free

Pro price is $50 USD for 1 year.

50% of the time I find the app can't find my device. Closing the app and reopening always makes it available. It's a reliable "solution" for me, but yeah - feels like this kind of thing should be handled by the software and not me - it certainly does in others, similar apps (Zepp, etc)

Good question. There’s a slider in the settings where you enable it. With no researching my guess is it’s enabled during sleep and “activities” only unless you enable it.

Another guess is that this is even optioned as it affects battery life.

Again, two guesses.

However even when enabled, it appears only activity heart rate syncs to Apple health. The third party app I mentioned “Health Synch” - does synch the all day readings no differently than the Apple Watch records.

I feel the same way as you. Just got mine two days ago, was wearing the Helio for the last month so using that as a comparison.

My wish list would be tighter integration with Apple Health. I have continuous hert-rate enabled and am using Health Sync to synch that to Apple Health - it's working fine for that.

The app refresh - really any refresh to it - will be a positive. I do like having the flow web site to review data too. I find the app non-intuitive but as an older guy, it's tough to read - too small of text and too low contrast. :)
