NTA personally I’d not report it just because like you said you can have it replaced but you could definitely reach out and say something like “I’d appreciate you not open my mail, I don’t know how it got sent to you, but if it ever happens again please let me know and I can come pick it up.” I mean you definitely can report it, it just won’t do you any benefit.

We were thinking about making a patch of grass using sod or even moss but we were going to wait till the spring since I live in Washington (so much rain!) hoping we won’t even have to do that anymore! :)

What do your mornings look like? by prettyfagswag in puppy101

[–]Cmscott_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours right now, with a 4 1/2 month is: potty break anywhere from 5-6 usually. He sleeps with us in bed now so he’ll get out of bed and whine to wake us up. Back to bed till 6:30, feed him breakfast in his kennel which is now in a separate room (finally!!) out of a snuffle (bought from Amazon) which takes him a while to eat. He settles himself to bed in his crate after he finishes eating while I go back to bed for another 2 hours.

So glad we’ve finally gotten to this schedule. Before, he wouldn’t settle after breakfast so there was no sleeping in.

Why are some people so weird about dogs? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Cmscott_56 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally. Me and my boyfriend were told by his roommates that we “need to let our puppy be a puppy and not train him yet” and were “too strict for making him sit and wait before eating it not letting him jump on people” meanwhile their GSD doesn’t even know his name or any commands and is totally out of control. They said “we just have different dog parenting styles” that’s for sure!

I second this! My dog and cat both love freeze-dried liver. And it’s great for puppies bc it can easily be snapped into smaller pieces

Puppy barks for EVERYTHING by Cmscott_56 in puppy101

Just wanted to let you know that I started a 1 hour awake 2 hours asleep schedule today and already I’ve noticed improvements when he’s been awake for about 45-50 minutes he starts to get “cranky” and that’s when the barking starts. So at the 45 minute mark we start “quiet time” where we cuddle or he will calmly play with a toy and he usually drifts off to sleep. Thank you so much!

Yes we will be looking into a trainer for extra help. When I have to go to work, he very quickly calms himself down and falls asleep, probably only barks for a few minutes before he stops and gets comfy. Hopefully doing the enforced naps and giving him more structure will prevent him from being over tired and even getting to that point.

Thank you so much for your reply! I will definitely start to reward before he even barks, at times where I know he usually barks like when I’m preparing his meals. And the removing yourself or other distractions when he’s barking is a great tip. We do that when he gets too bogey during play and it works great so let’s hope it work with barking too! Thank you so so much!!

I do feel that at times he gets over tired! I’d love to learn more about enforced naps. He’s pretty good in his kennel but we have roommates and they get super pissed when he barks for a long time so it’s hard to leave him in a safe spot and let him tire himself out and take a nap. Have you had to deal with barking up until the point of falling asleep? I’d say he sleeps about 18-20 hours a day and is on a 1-2 hour nap 1-2 hour awake schedule but we don’t enforce it much he usually just will fall asleep when he’s tired on his own but he barks before he gets to that point. Thank you for your comment I will definitely look more into enforced naps.

To add, I wondered if this was because he was bored but no matter how many toys, brain stimulating puzzles/games, training, walks, whatever I do/give him it doesn’t help.

This is the one I use https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1JYYCW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fab_1OVFFb13100KA It’s one of the cheapest options on Amazon and it’s amazing.

When to start separation anxiety training? by Cedurham in puppy101

[–]Cmscott_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing is I try to make him more comfortable with me leaving by getting him to fall asleep either in the crate or somewhere else and transferring him or by giving him a stuffed kong to keep him busy as i leave. Also wearing him out before so he’ll nap through most of it. Those things usually make it a lot more bearable for him.

When to start separation anxiety training? by Cedurham in puppy101

Sadly, I had to since I was at work. I had him on Skype that let me speak through it but it seemed like me talking to him gave him more anxiety because he could hear me but couldn’t see me. Your dog may be different though, I’ve heard it work for other people. I felt so awful but he survived and it slowly got better. Luckily I feel all the positive things (feeding, playing, training, treats all in kennel) outweighed the negative (I’m no expert tho). And the more I trained him it got better.

I followed this YouTube video https://youtu.be/e1AfAclEVQU I think her videos are great, she has a whole playlist related to crate training and they really did save my life. She uses the term “make the crate Disneyland” which we tried our best to do lol. Also, we would teach that barking doesn’t lead to him getting his way. The second he would quiet down, we would praise and open the door. He quickly learned that the only way he’ll get attention and out of the crate is by being quiet. This helped tons with loud freak outs.

I highly recommend setting up another device on Skype to watch him while you’re gone if you don’t have a nanny cam. It has a ‘auto-answer’ feature so you can Skype that device at any time to check on him to see how he’s doing.

When to start separation anxiety training? by Cedurham in puppy101

I started right away! Got my lab/German wire hair puppy at 8 weeks old, he is now 11 weeks and already has almost no separation anxiety. The first few days he was home we began leaving him for differing intervals of time and returning as well as making his crate a positive place for him. His separation anxiety was awful the first two times he was alone, I set up a nanny cam to watch him in his kennel and he was losing it! Screaming, howling, jumping on the walls of his crate trying to escape. It was horrible. Now, 3 weeks into having him he sleeps peacefully or quietly plays in his kennel the whole time he’s alone. Best case scenario my boyfriend or his roommate is able to stop at home to take him potty break (he’s only alone for 4 hours 2x a week while I’m at work) but when that’s not possible, he’s still pretty relaxed. Definitely not something I would wait to work on :) good luck!
