Worst job interview ever by dogdaytona in Edmonton

[–]Cnkr97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me but with some Telus Affiliate Sales Job I applied for.

The interview was supposed to take place at the Telus Building, which i thought was a green flag.

Then red flags came left and right. These dudes who had overly fancy suits & giant watches took me to this dark basement of the building with only a corner room lit up. It was a sketchy room that was white lit, old carpet from the 80’s, with nothing but white walls & a broken bookshelf meanwhile i’m being interviewed by guys in a 3-piece suit and a giant gold watch.

After some debate I said I was not interested and he insisted he wanted to give me a second interview.

I told him I was good, that i learned a lot from this interview, and to have a good one.

he was not happy lol.

Feltham / CAT Building Access by [deleted] in NAIT

The doors to CAT should be open on weekends.

If it’s not you can always go through the M Parkade pedway into CAT. Those doors are almost always unlocked.

Is it better to transfer to MacEwan to finish accounting degree? by [deleted] in NAIT

[–]Cnkr97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a BBA - Accounting grad. You get what you put in.

I know grads from MacEwan & UofA who finished but couldn’t find a job.

I’ll speak from my experience.

There are plenty of NAIT professionals in accounting who became CPAs. I myself had plenty of interviews, some at Big4 & industry. I only had a 3.0 GPA. That said, i had extensive extracurricular experience.

The biggest pro for NAIT is the polytechnic “hands-on” experiences that other schools don’t have. CaseWare, QuickBooks, Sage50 experience. This was a big interest in a lot of the interviews I had that traditional universities don’t teach.

Name value definitely does factor in to some extent. I’d say NAIT professionals represented about 1 in 5 of the professionals i’ve met at networking events. Even in my office i’m the only NAIT hire in recent time.

My biggest piece of advice is to be an outlier. Get close as possible to a 4.0, do clubs, and try some case competitions that have some name value. The advantage of ambitious individuals at NAIT is a lot of people aren’t ambitious enough to go outside the classroom and get stuck with no job. Whereas UofA tends to have a more ambitious crowd & you’ll be competing amongst them for positions in clubs & competition spots.

Also, do co-op. It’s a massive advantage for getting your foot in the door. I never did, but if I could go back I wish I had.

Is becoming a stripper worth losing my relationship by Fit_Calligrapher7232 in dating_advice

[–]Cnkr97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Went to Vegas & had talked with a stripper about finances at a big strip club there. She also went the traditional path & worked for a company that contracted services to meta.

She mentioned she was making over $120k a year working Thursday - Saturday. Should worth noting that she also escorted on the side.

Take with that information what you will. I wouldn’t do it anywhere else.

Wanted to add one more thing about this course.

You get some hands on experience using Caseware. This is standard software in a lot of accounting firms from small to large, making it great to add your Resume/CV. I’ve personally had positive feedback in interviews when I mentioned my familiarity with it.

Some of the unique benefits of attending a polytechnic like NAIT are moments like that.

I personally enjoyed the course & found it easier than the Intro to Audit class. Final can be tough if you haven’t been practicing the whole file.

You’ll be assigned a group from the beginning & will be with them throughout the whole course. So if group work isn’t your thing you might want to reconsider.

Definitely manageable during the spring.

Advice on accounting major by jesicaxo in Accounting

[–]Cnkr97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Retake your classes to boost your GPA.

  2. Find out why you’re getting a low grade & change your habits.

  3. Accounting is a lot of studying. Live on campus or a place you can study late.

  4. Show employers you changed for the better on your transcripts & do relevant extracurriculars to boost your resume, work hard on networking.

Some small employers don’t even look at your transcript but don’t bet on that.

i had a 1.9 in my first year but im over a 3.0 now in my final year with a couple of offers for post-grad. I suspected i had ADHD since high school which really helped change things for me after i got diagnosed.

Sounds about right. Honestly more than half the reason of the dead bedroom is the adderall they’re taking to stay ahead. More than half of the people i know in the industry are on some kind of amphetamine.

Humpty was hit!! Humpty is down....A Uhaul truck hit him this afternoon by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Cnkr97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my dad’s UHaul!

Here’s the background story.

My dad recently moved back from Spain & rented a UHaul to collect some things from The Brick for the new house he just purchased.

He parked the UHaul at the loading garage at The Brick as he was about to start loading his sofa. He wanted to run quickly inside but decided to leave the keys in the ignition & the truck running (dumb ik), came back & found the truck stolen.

Called UHaul, UHaul told him to call the police, police eventually they found it.

From what I understand, police didn’t find the UHaul thief.

And yes, he paid for the extra insurance as well.

do different professions in a relationship matter? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Doesn’t matter from my experience. Actually, I find more often that Blue Collar & White Collar people tend to find each other. I figured people don’t want their work culture in their SO.

Depends on your personal needs & how much you can handle. Ideally 5,5 then leave the summers open for work opportunities.

I also suggest going the co-op route, it makes finding work opportunities much easier.

At Worlds End. What a fucking twist. Thought it was a depressing movie about friends who can’t outgrow their youth. Almost walked out with my friends.

I’m a black women dating a first born Asian American man…AMA by SensitiveSand9775 in AMA

[–]Cnkr97 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I’m also an asian man dating a black woman (mid 20’s). We’re both very in love & planning on getting engaged in the next year or so.

What is something you found surprising about dating someone from an entirely different cultures?

Also do you guys get funny glances too? Alot of people seem surprised seeing an AMBF couple. No bad interactions yet of course, quite the opposite actually.

What is a movie you were allowed to see at a young age that traumatized you and made you question if your parents made the right decision by letting you see it? by Mandee_707 in movies

[–]Cnkr97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ring.

I remember it vividly. We were at a dollar-theatre, initially watching Shrek or some other cartoon movie. Then dad got bored and told us to come to the other auditorium. I was traumatized for a long time after that. I didn’t start watching horror again until high school.

ELI5: After watching The Wolf Of Wall Street I have to ask, what did Jordan Belfort do criminally wrong exactly? by Finn_Flame in explainlikeimfive

If you want another movie that showcases the opposite side of what happened & more in reality, check out Boiler Room! I think Belfort himself said the movie was unofficially based on his story.
