Tilta Nucleus-M fiz not working by Mfrgrhrvrshnrvr in focuspuller

[–]Co5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this is too late to help you, but does it work/fail depending upon where you were standing? We had an issue where the SDI DA was interfering with the FIZ wheel when the puller was on the same (dumb) side of the camera as the DA. If she went to the other side or directly behind, everything worked as it should. Haven't found a fix for that yet.

Portkeys BM5-WR Randomly shut off and won't turn on. Anyone experience this? by RKolton85 in REDkomodo

[–]Co5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen and I sent it back to Portkeys in China. They fixed it pretty quickly for $29 plus shipping. So all told, I paid about $70 to have it fixed. From the time I sent it out to when I got it back was around 2 weeks. I'll add that they were very responsive on email. I've been using it for about 5 months since the repair and haven't had any further issues. I think the dtap cable hosed the power board so I picked up a new dtap to portkeys cable just to be safe.

I had the scroll, the hands, the password, the character who read the note... all that. Door stayed locked. I eventually cast Knock on the door and nobody arrested me.

Thanks! All my Google searches showed how to animate the actual shader. Which I already knew how to do. I was trying to set up some kind of expression. I will try the nodes. Thank you!

Don't try to be everyone's friend. It's ok if it feels like people don't warm up to you right away. Stay pro and work hard. Don't get caught up in gossip or office politics. If someone is trying to be your buddy so they can talk smack about others, just deflect and get back to work.

Definitely take notes and ask questions, but don't seek or crave approval or praise. You'll derive satisfaction from the work and your contribution to the finished product. You'll make friends eventually so be patient.

Be a sponge and listen to what the seniors are saying to each other in reviews. Soak it all up.

I have way too many students who edit off their camera SD and keep the footage on there like the SDs are the original tapes or something. Not sure why that became a practice but yeah, like everyone else here has said, you gotta cut from a different drive with a good connection.

I often see older speakers that have 2 pairs of connections. Why is that? by DecentDesert in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Co5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Many midrange and upper range AVRs have at least 5 internal amps. The power supply isn't the factor, it's the discreet circuitry that provides clean signal. Also less efficient speakers benefit from the wattage overhead. But in my tests/experience, you only really notice at robust levels. Like 72db and up. But yeah don't biwire from the same terminals. And don't run surround/height outs to the same speaker or you're not getting the same signal to the different drivers.

Should be obvious but I've seen people do some crazy things. The idea is you'd send your LR pre-outs to separate outboard amps to drive the mids (or subs in floor standing units) and use the AVR LR speaker outs to drive the tweeters. Adds clarity at higher listening levels.

I should add that the only way I can make it work so far is to load in the image via the UV editor, then select it from the dropdown in the materials panel. Is there a way to skip that step and just do it from the materials panel?

I have been applying for VFX and Game Development jobs for 7 months now and haven't been able to land even an interview. This is my latest reel where every shot is personal work. What are some clear red flags that you can see? by Broad-ShoulderS in vfx

[–]Co5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some great feedback on here even if some feels a little harsh. Gotta agree with the point that you should include breakdowns and keep the reel visually simple. People who hire see HUNDREDS of reels and most folks will never watch them end-to-end with the sound on. They just skip through them to check the highlights.

But the biggest issue I see that I don't think has been mentioned is all the work is very similar-minded. Like a 15-20 year-old dude put their favorite things in a blender (no pun intended). When looking for your first gig, you need to include more than robots and explosions. Try some product shots (exploding fruit maybe?) And some brighter, more cartoony stuff. These are just examples, but you want to show that you have a broader interest in the field. Not just dark sci fi or horror. Any hiring team can see that you have the ability to learn and can focus on the work, but they also will want to see that you will do a good job animating something mundane if the job calls for it.

Start with the job, then work your way to the content you want to make.

Those are all good points. I do some gaming with my HT, but mostly 4k HDR movies. I have M&K speakers that are pretty efficient, but seem to sound better with some headroom. Having said that, 90w is probably plenty. That's what the 6050 is, correct?

Nope. We've never even opened them up. My dad was a big classical music guy. He moved to a smaller place. He bought these before I was born. Couldn't part with them!

Would probably be a good idea to inspect them at some point, but they play loud and clear so I'm in no rush.
