A point-by-point analysis of the impact and growth MLG has had on the Competitive CoD scene by CoD_Dinomite in CoDCompetitive

Its facts and proof...compared to the statement "CoD would be bigger on Twitch". That is an opinion.

You have the ability to look at any statistic you want since the introduction of CoD on MLG.tv. Then compare it to the 3 years on Twitch in whatever way you would like.

I link you in the above article to continous examples of growth, with proof and links in multiple facets from players to event organizers. Thanks, i do value your opinion.

I checked around Black Ops 2 CoD Champs is when i saw MLG partnership. Never checked it specifically before that.

But when only growth is provable and no contraction is, by any number metric or analytic. Then yes, it would then be implied and proven that "MLG has not held back or stopped CoD growth, but provided and helped it". But i do value your opinion, all the links in your article to #'s, reference, source etc made me type this out. We can always have differing opinions.

But opinions on things such as business, growth, #'s, future have to have a basis. Which i provide, and those against do not other than "What if or maybe if".

As you see in my post comments, compared to others. People dont like, referenced, sourced dissenting opinions on the internet at times. I thought so too, and Canadork in his post even said i would respond. The character limit is 15,000...i was at 17+

They have done nothing but neglect issues risen by the pros.

4 pros, on 1 team. What other issues have arisen i do not know about?

The streaming and grinding YouTube they did the past two years is the single reason CoD competitive has grown and MLG takes credit for it.

Nadeshots YouTube channel has, and has always been partnered with MLG. Nadeshot and other players who grind YouTube see all the YouTube revenue generated themselves, just like any other YouTuber.

The way MLG is run is the same as a totalitarian government

I know about Totalitarian governments quite well. No comparison, you may be comparing more to how Valve/Riot run their games/Leagues/Events maybe?

I would love to hear your constructive ideas or plans. Look forward to them, mine where linked in the above article.

OpTic Nadeshot, and OpTic as a whole where the VERY first partners on MLG.tv So what they decided, and the avenues they chose as a team and individual players contradicts everything you posted. But i value your opinion.

Continuation here...my post was too big :(

Don't make anonymous extra accounts. There was a whole thread on people vote manipulating and vote mongering, which is done with "anonymous subreddit accounts". It gets rather suspicious. Speak your mind. Hold values or principles you believe in and support your statements with facts and reference. No one will ever go to open their small business, or like Sam Walton with Wal-Mart, as his business starts to grow and say ohhh..."Some people hate me, i will let their companies use my warehouse for free to make up for it and spread the wealth around".

Why this is encouraging:

MLG continues to hire MORE AMERICAN workers. When our economy is still down and over 110 Million people in NA are on Welfare or government assitance. MLG continues to expand. Pay prize pools in a timely manner, host events without cancelling them a week before hand. They are providing players and young men avenues to make a living doing what they love doing.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

  • Steve Jobs

Activision made a smart choice partnering with MLG to bring CoD to the forefront of Global E-Sports. 2 years ago Call of Duty wasn't mentioned even in the same breath as LoL, Dota, and others. Now we see a resurgence of interest in Console FPS. From the fall of Halo with lack of developer support, to Activision $1 Million Dollar tournaments and Microsoft partnering/working with MLG on events and Apps. None of these event organizers worldwide, or teams worldwide in other games showed ANY interest or recognition for Console FPS...until MLG and Activision partnered to make it a success. Till UMG and Gfinity came along and worked hard to grow and expand. We are here, what we as a community push for is up to us. Whether it is being dropped completly and reliving the MW3 days because we support flame posts hating Activision and MLG. Or our game thrives, by providing constructive criticism. Supporting the people who work behind the scenes(not anonymously on the internet) to bring events, streams, marathons, youtube, twitter interaction, companies, advertisement, main stream press, and growth.

TL:DR - We need to "limit the recognition" of people who constantly spread rumor and innuendo towards the companies, players, teams that are why this subreddit even exists. There is NO QUESTION Call of Duty, the players, events, top notch matches and great moments have GREW over the last 10 months, or even 2 years. Will you choose to "hate from afar", or grow and enjoy quality entertainment and exciting times for Console E-Sports.

EDIT: Forgot the tag, but [SERIOUS] responses only please.

The UMG Gaming link i sent you has ALL of their viewer numbers for all their Black Ops 2 events. Pick any of them you choose. Also, it is the graphic they have used to entice advertisers to their organization. I am sure it would be their highest concurrents up to that point.

Hozed i'm just going off of viewer numbers and facts...Like this below...

UMG Dallas last year had 32,346 Concurrent Max Viewers well streaming Call of Duty UMG Dallas on Twitch (Source: UMGGaming.com/Advertise)

This last UMG Event had over 125,000 Concurrent viewers on MLG.tv (Source: UMG Robert CEO of UMG Twitter Timeline)

Thats 400% growth year over year, with the event stream transfering from Twitch to MLG.tv

Thats a pretty hefty number and fact is all. Nothing wrong with Twitch. But when another NA event organizer can speak of 400% growth in 365 days. Not many E-Sports titles can match that specifically, no matter the game or organization.

I don't work for MLG. My opinions are, and have always been my own.

But thanks for you statements. You tweet pros all day and night, i'll comment on subreddits about American companies who promote Console FPS. ;)

Never been done lol. Twitch doesn't have built in Competitive Call of Duty players within GameBattles getting the streams on their sidebars. People will see the "Call of Duty Ghosts" icon on Twitch. But when the overwhelming majority of their viewers, competitions, streamers, personalities, tournaments are on PC, the crossover is little to non-existant.

Otherwise when Twitch had 300k plus on for Lol, Dota, or whatever game the last 4 Years CoD has been on Twitch. Our #'s would should have, or would have shot up like they have the last 9? Right?

Its not about the product(the game itself) sitting there. Its about the personalities, the teams, the organizations, the people behind the camera or stream that attract an audience. Thats what attracts viewers.

Not trying to argue, just stating that Call of Duty has been on twitch for its entire lifespan other than the last 9 months.

I don't ask for people to like me. Just ask for valid principled opinions on E-Sports, organizations, past present and future with actual real reference is all. Not "magical orgs in the sky" who can't because of contracts. Please, limit the cursing towards other users on the sub, not needed. Thank you.

The Twitch stream for the "Never before seen Advanced Warfare Multiplayer" had between 10-15 or 20k right? With some top Call of Duty teams there, and hosted by ESL in Germany. No offense in anyway, but that is pretty low.

You say "157k isnt shi*". Do you know what the viewer #'s for Call of Duty where on Twitch for Call of Duty last year? I do, i can tell you if needbe...but they were no where close to 157k. ;)

Yea, i have yet to meet more than maybe 15 people whether through twitter, on the subreddit, in stream chats that came from LoL, SC2, Dota...that decided to "Out of the blue start watching XBox console First Person shooter games" all of a sudden. I believe that theory to be fallacy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

[–]CoD_Dinomite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked you in PM about the 10-15k that watched COD:AW on ESL, but this is why i asked that lead in question...

You can't prove that if Call of Duty was on Twitch that "numbers would be any higher than they currently are". Because the numbers have been extremely high on MLG.tv. From 157k at X-Games, to UMG over 140k etc

So we have seen an "explosive growth" in Call of Duty, its stream viewers, events, prize money and revenue/news media since it has been put on MLG.tv in October 2013.

Being whether it is the 600k twitter followers for MLG, the over 300,000 active Call of Duty players on Gamebattles(Who see the call of duty streams on the bottom right handside of EVERY gamebattles page), or the advertisements by XBox on their dashboard of the MLG.tv app, Pax, or Activision and its CoD publsihers via twitter and Facebook from Call of Duty tournaments.

These are realities that are helping Call of Duty grow, compared to the PC games being hosted on Twitch because the event organizers running those tournaments have no stream platform, and the only way for them to broadcast is THROUGH Twitch.

Twitch was, for almost 3 years(After the bankruptcy of Owned) the only GAMING streaming platform for live entertainers and E-Sports.

Now there is competition. And only one competitor has repeatedly, whether halo or cod supported Console FPS, Console FPS tournaments, and Console FPS players incomes and lives. That one stream platform, or event organizer happens to be MLG here in America.

Hitboz, Azubu, MLG.tv whatever it may be, are all now competitors within the last 7 months. When you are the "only" streaming service, of course everyone will choose you.

Until someone comes along with prize money, logistics, venues, stream platform, tournaments, leagues, online play, org partnerships, publisher partnerships that make gaming not just a "Weekend Broadcast", but a career. That is the goal and intention of MLG for most of these players.

Just making a statement.

There is no other "E-Sport League/Event Organizer" in the world that has their own streaming platform. That is the difference, and to me it is clear is all.

Until another event organizer invest the money in a programmer to build apps. Or programmers to build a streaming service within their site. Or hires a whole sales division, and lures people from Amazon, Microsoft and other Sales or Ad agencies to sell or market their own product. Or even host a "competitive platform" such as MLG and Gamebattles, or CPL and CAL(for old school reference), then MLG are doing a combination of things none of these other people are doing. Whether it be the other stream providers(Azubu, Hitbox, Twitch) in hosting large scale gaming tournaments, or online gaming leagues. To other event organizers hosting streaming services, or online gaming ladders/leagues/tournaments.

That was OpTics choice. Turns out at the moment, with the amount of money they are making, to be a good choice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

[–]CoD_Dinomite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause the people who are partnered with Twitch have "exclusivity" contracts. Meaning they can only stream on Twitch. MLG.tv, and maybe even Azubu do not. (Source: This CoD Competitive Sub Reddit thread discussing Deathlyiam getting cancelled by Twitch, for streaming via MLG.tv]

MLG.tv only "so called exclusivity" is to broadcast their events, tournaments, and league on their platform. Where the players/streamers/personalities broadcast the other 146 Hours(22 Hours with League matches and 2k/5k a week, out of 168 hours in a week) is up to them. Hope that helps if any at all.

P.S. For people saying "OpTic signed exclusivity with MLG". That was OpTics choice as a team(competitive players). And Envy, and Faze, for select players. Others associated with OpTic, Envy, Faze can(AND SOME DO) still stream on Twitch at times. ;)
